They had better not, otherwise we won't be able to bag Sony for stealing all of Nintendo's innovative ideas....!!!!

So he's making a VR headset, VirtuaBoy anyone?

Jokes aside, there's enough tech today to make a working VR system with no barfing issues.

the only problem is that HMDs with resolutions higher than VGA are kinda expensive....

Only because of production volumes. If you started cranking them out like consoles, the price would drop like a rock. The same thing happened with LCD monitor prices when they became popular.

Now to find that fake video a while back that showed what the Revolution was supposed to be...

I don't think he was referring to a VR set, but rather to a stereo projector of sorts. Nevertheless, there are many many issues with having your video content outside the frame of a screen. For example needing a specialy designed space to project everything.

I must stress that although Miyamoto is a briliant game designer, he isnt an engineer, so ultimately what he dreams of might not be what is applicable.

Increasing production works, but we're talking of a very expensive product that must get very cheap in order to work, like $15-20 for each HMD.

Anyway, in my opinion the HMDs must be 16:9 to work properly, and at least SVGA.

Yeah but he must have some basic knowledge as to know whats really impossible. Plus nintendo is known for making cheap solutions for stuff that was pretty expensive at the time.

Take for example the virtuaboy: if they wanted to do a projector (thats what you said right?) they could make a cheap one with the lumenlabs method, which is using a 7" 480p LCD with a projection array.

That would get a lot of people into the Wii/whatever-they-release bandwagon, a cheap-ass projector...

It might seem far off, but they already have the motion sensing technology and by the time the Wii is on its way out that technology will be dirt cheap. They also have experience using cheap LCD screens and the DS uses 2 of them and sells for $150-ish.

When you start adding things up, the potential is there and it doesn't seem so outlandish.

At first I laughed, but Nintendo need another innovation after the motion sensing and the touch screen. However, they did bomb dramatically on their last attempt (I love the Virtual Boy though!)

But the DS screen arent even QVGA, and we need SVGA at least! while XGA or 720p would hit the spot...

Plus the hype around VR headsets is kinda death nowadays, at least for the mainstream...

720p is crazy, if such a thing was released it would be in 480i. The more important specification would be widescreen, as you mentioned before, or an even wider ratio if at all possible.

Hmm.. if Nintendo took notice of this technology, and made it applicable in the context of video gaming, we'd have a winner, won't we? ;)

Storing holographic information can be a bit of a pain in the ass however. Not to mention re-training your staff to work with it in mind.

Almost reminds me of those Sega holographic arcade machines that were released back in 1991. I think one was called Time Traveler, and used crazy mirrors with a laserdisc (L.A.S.E.R DISC!!!)

Thats simply impossible: that thing works around a real 3D object, while a game would need an electronic hologram to boot, which is already 3D so why would you need these mirrors?

Indeed, it looks like those SEGA arcades. I think there was a fighting one...
