yes....thanks paulo...i mean size wise...a fighting game would and does take up considerly less than like stated a game with huge overworlds, and the such......was down at the local arcade today...didnt see to many sega dev'd or naomi games...seen alot...and i mean ALOT of atari games, presumally based off the co-jag? hardware.. then again there was only 8 machines in the damm place.. do you guys, in america/uk/wherever, still have these "playdium" places.. there like a really, really big building filled with nothing but arcade games. you bought a pass good for x hours, and had play on any machine there. i can remember going there..the first game i ever played was there...sigh..the memories in your opinion, what percentage of sega still focuses on arcade games?....and is taito and snk still in it, or is it all basically segea?
The only place like that Ive been to was in Disney's Quest in florida. 45 bucks or something when i last went, 4 floors of games (2 floors or so of arcade, the other stuff was still awesome). Amazing building heh, could play all day long. SNK still makes games, sega-sammy is making quite a bit though.
Slightly related... I'm sure I read somewhere (not sure if it was here on ASSEMbler or elsewhere) about how someone had ripped the Chihiro Crazy Taxi 3 files off the GD-ROM using a Dreamcast and found it had what appeared to be a standard Xbox .xbe file. Not sure if it was true, or if the game would be burnable to an Xbox DVD-R and playable on a modded Xbox... Interesting stuff, nonetheless.
You have much to learn in the relm of arcades. Sure a GD rom can be ripped but that does nothing. Arcade games now (excluding atomiswave) use security keys to lock their games. So what if the GD is dumped, you still can't play a burned copy unless you have the hardware security key which is unique to every single game. If you actualy checked into the history of Dreamcast emulation, they started to get naomi emulation working but cited the serial key as being the reason they can not get GD software booting. Here is an example (the black box at the top is the key, its a small chip inside the plastic).
ahhh, well i stumbled upon system16 couple weeks back...and havent had the time to really read up on anything...maybe this weekend.....thanks for all the info guys!
I remember reading that on Xbox-Scene, and when ppl asked for proof, the guy disappeared and many there thought that the person was blowing smoke...
to my understanding, the Chihiro, is nothing more than an xbox in sheeps clothing. wouldnt surprise me if it were a standard file though
If you consider a GDRom drive instead of a DVD Drive, and a crapload of more ram sheeps clothing, then yes.
i was surprised that sega didnt build their own hardware, instead built it around the xbox(and now really fast computer) architecture
SNK/Sammy is using naomi 2 for there arcade machines, GGX, GG, etc, i think the new king of fighters is going be on naomi this time around as well.
Actually, SNK/Sammy have been using the Atomiswave hardware. King of Fighters XI recently came out for it and so have a few other SNK titles. Metal Slug 6 is a future SNK title for the hardware. More Info here:
As someone else has stated. SNK & Sammy have been suporting Sammy's Atomiswave arcade system which is supost to be a cheaper version of a naomi 1, yet naomi 1 now is far cheaper then the atomiswave to manufacture (since it's so dang old and common). All Future Snk games (for the time being) will be on the atomiswave.
Isn't the gd-r for the chihiro and triforce a gd-rom2 of sorts. I thought it was new tech, but based on the old gd-rom.
Hard to say since I've yet to get my hands on one but from what I can tell its still the same tech. The only major difference is in the dimm boards which have been upgraded (ie more ram and newer firmware). Also I believe the Chihiro has the dimm board actualy built into the hardware where triforce still uses the old naomi dimm cart system. No idea how namco uses the unit since only 2 game are comming out by them using it (mario kart GP & some ). I wish sega released something nice for the triforce worth buying (its been soccer or games requiring special hardware). I would have bought one by now then (since they're starting to drop in price).
