    Actually: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Statute_of_limitations
The time has likely long since passed for anyone to do anything. And if it was thrown away, generally they have given up any right to it. More importantly neither company has any reason to care about someone having this thing.

Someone pointed out in another forum that the system has play and skip buttons so obviously it was meant to play music cd's too. So something's wrong with the cd drive then. Wish that Ben Heck guy coulda fixed it. He must not know cd players or something.

"However, Heck failed to mention one key, missing piece of the puzzle: a more powerful laser diode. Dan Diebold confirmed to Ars that the Nintendo PlayStation's diode is currently too weak to read any data from a compact disc, so that's the next step in their quest to see if it can actually recognize and play disc media.

"We didn't have enough time to stay" at Heck's studio, the Diebolds told Ars, and that discovery didn't come until after they'd left the production. Now, they're looking for capable hands to help them with a possible diode replacement and see if that does the trick. Here's to hoping it doesn't take them long."

Rebuild it as a kit, 3D Print the Nintendo Playstation case, leave the CD drive slot empty, you could plug in a standard off the shelf DVD laptop drive perhaps. Then you could easily throw in a RPi type solution or even more ideally an FPGA SNES that can interface with the CD perfectly or original cartridge or even perhaps through a USB/SD slot. Could be fun to see on a shelf anyways.

That would probably be a great scenario. I'd buy one just to gut it of its NOAC.

Why would you recomend 3D Printing? Have you seen what it looks like?

Oh I don't recommend it, but for a prototype knockoff it wouldn't be too out of place. And who knows 3D printing quality might improve in time. Just having the option will be good.

Like I said earlier, I'd actually be more thrilled if some famiclone maker took the design and made something that could be modded.

To be fair, for a bigger case, the imperfection would not be as evident, and with sanding and painting it can look very good.

ABS material and PLA material dont look good for smaller things as they were not made to print that small.
I know this because I use SLS materials where accuracy is quite high and can look nice. Usually people know what they're doing when they 3D print things.

The main issue is cost 90% of the time

It helped me learn Solidworks and what are the dos and donts of 3D printing.

Smaller models cant use PLA or ABS. They're usually made for rough medium-small models that don't require too much accuracy. SLS and UV Cured printing are form higher detail models and smaller models.

You can use Acetone Vapors to smooth the edges of 3D printer models. That can make it look a bit more attractive, thats for sure.

Absolutely, but the issue is still size and accuracy related. Smoothing the models (easier with PLA) still can't go well if the print comes out bad anyway/

3D printing is a very interesting subject. Should we start a new thread in order to avoid being off topic ?

I also know Solidworks pretty well, thanks to school and my actual job. But I am not very familiar with 3D printing. Do you have your own printer ? Or do you use a web based service ?

You're probably right about a new topic...

Anyway, if the homebrew scene allowed for a raspberry pi SnesCD system, the I very much believe 3D printing a shell would absolutely be acceptable (or acrylic shells).
In fact I'd love to see it myself.

I've got a few 3D printed items however they feel like they are powder coated. The detail on them is very hight too. Both came from online printing companies.

SLS material. It's basically powdered nylon being fused by a glue or a heat.
In fact some of my models still have the white powder escaping from the parts.

That's obviously a famiclone, but not in any sort of attractive or even logically designed case. Kind of getting off topic.
