That's what I want to hear. I wish you immense luck on your project, you're doing the Lord's work. Somebody give this soul a cookie or a helping hand.

I think it would have to be marketed carefully. It could be this open source homebrew/development revolution that allows the best pixel art and graphics to be recreated on SNES technology. Make the consoles on demand? Start a kickstarter, win or lose, drums up interest?

Imagine the delight, a machine that played WII, GC, PS1/2 games!? That's a true play station.

How labor/program intensive would it be for a modder to take pre-existing N64/PS1 and stuff them in a box?
I still want my dream prototype Nintendo Playstation that plays N64 games and PS1 games, no matter the cost. Maybe putting the different mother boards in a huge tower with a fan may work. I was watching Ben Heck's dismantling of the N64 and PS1, and thought how they wouldn't be much trouble to have their skeleton transferred to a new body. I've seen crazier consoles before, like a custom Xbox tower that plays PS2 AND Xbox games, two separate disk drives

when he was talking about the expansion port (ext, and not NEXT) ?
It wasn't ever used for piracy or cheat system, he mixed it with the PS's expansion port.

I remember a CD Gameshark used that port. It made cheat searching possible. The software was still on the disc but the NEXT port connected to a PC so it could still search like old GS Pros. Both of those ports were used at a time for game enhancement.

Yes, but the PlayStation EXT port is really not the same as the Playstation Ext port.
And it is not called «NEXT» port.

It's a mistake in the caption, he was talking about the ps1 parallel port. The NEXT port on the super cd looks more like the ps1 serial port, though.

    Edit:

Very interesting effort! Have the costs of FGPA devices lowered itself to a decent price? I remember seeing a FGPA implementation of the snes APU that was very sexy and sounded GREAT...

They are talking about Ben Heck AND THE SNES PLAYSTATION Tear down over at byuu 's forum, maybe this will lead to some cool advances in emulation and hacking like how msu1 evolved into a real piece of hardware on the sd2snes.

In the beginning, along with talk about there being a CD, didn't the story go that this Nintendo PlayStation was meant to be thrown out but recovered by some dude that gave it to Dan's father?? After talk about the recovery being illegal and it means it is still property of Sony cause it was meant to have been thrown out, the story changed to Dan's father winning it in an Auction. Sounds a bit fishy to me.

No, I think the story has always been that Dan's father, who worked as a custodian at the building, received the unit as part of an auction lot that he won when the company folded.

The story has never ever changed. We were the ones talking about how illegal it could be.

You guys are wrong. Dan said as well as a few YouTube sites reporting on this, that the Nintendo Playstation was meant to be thrown out but Dan's dad kept the box that had this console in it. Here is proof from one site that reported on what Dan was saying at the time.
Watch from the 10 minute mark.

This is what Dan says earlier in this very thread (on the first page). "My dad worked for a company, apparently one of the guys he used to work with, I think his name was Olaf, used to work at Nintendo and when my dads company went bankrupt, my dad found it in a box of "junk" he was supposed to throw out."

Here is another video of Dan in an interview.

This is after many sites reported this find and many people were saying it is illegal cause the item was taken instead of being disposed of. Notice how he tries to say he is not sure about the way it was found and that he doesn't talk to his dad and he will have to ask his dad again. Could it be that they knew shit was gonna hit the fan and so changed the story on how this came in their possession????

Talk about shit hitting the fan if Sony or Nintendo found out about this started here.. This is from a post on page 3 of this thread. "
You are right, they did got ordered to destroy them!

Better blur out the serialnumber (if it has one) I bet once the serialnumber is readable
Nintendo/Sony can find out who did not destroyed it and maybe Nintendo/Sony or whoever which party worked on that project. would still demand that person to get rid of it"

Thrown out, but not because it was the SNES PlayStation, it was just a box of junk.

If it was supposed to be thrown out back then, Sony would have already done it (remember, this was Olaf's, he was part of Sony).
And honestly, the legality of it = we shouldn't care. This is a thing that's over 20 years old, it does not reveal any particular secrets to a company other than the fact that the SNES PlayStation was indeed a thing.
And Sony will not complain, if they do, it's bad publicity anyway. I mean Shuhei Yoshida is fine with it being found.

Man, I felt like a kid again when the CD span. Glad they did fix it partially. Can't wait for the mysterious CD Terry might have somewhere. This is getting even more exciting!

lol, who cares? This was 24 years ago. sony isn't going to waste the $$4 on legal wrangling to try and do anything. Also, seeing how this has been pretty visible all over the net since it's been found, it would be a PR nightmare if they tried to grab it for destruction. Them simply turning a blind eye to it's existence is their best course of action.

Wow, BenHeck really came through, and he reconnected the SOIC to the CD controller circuitry. This is too cool! I hope that there really is a disc that came with the prototype.

Remember we aren't supposed to talk about legal things in this thread either.

As for me, I think they changed the story cause they knew it could get repo'd if they just took it, instead of winning it in an auction.
