Pretty neat http://superiorversion.com/?p=200 (Linking to my site, should the actual be pulled. It is linked to in my post though)
It appears to be very similar to the NXE that was released, only with a lot more 3d in the presentation. Cant really say i like one over the other, either one is way better than the original dash, thats for sure.
I hate the NXE. Why did they have to fiddle with something that worked? Typical Microsoft. And just like Vista, they relocated everything so you spend bloody ages looking for it! I just can't understand the layout. And those stupid Mii rip-offs are pointless.
The NXE was only introduced to showcase more advertising than the previous interface and provide more pointless eye-candy. The usability of the NXE is horrible and poorly thought out.
It was the "Vista" addon for the Xbox 360, so far the only useful features I saw for it was the Party Chat of 8 people. 150 friends could have done better aswell.
i don't mind it. they moved things around, OOOo big deal. Adapt. It's what evolution is about don't let natural selection count you out. plus, party chat wins.
I just like it because it's less cluttered, smoother, and the guide is mostly quicker than the previous version. Avatars are stupid and pointless (but nowhere near as horrible as the PS3 Home shit) and look gay, really gay. Maybe that's their new target audience.
it's worth upgrading for party chat alone. i'd only upgrade if you have friends and play together online.
what, you can opt out? It's lame how you don't get an actual choice of interface for those who preferred the previous iteration.
I only upgraded for the hard drive loading and the Community Games addons if I ever get the time to pump out a few more X360 games. The problem now is, with the ability to cache full games, I foresee a lot of developers only optimizing for playing from the hard drive rather than the disk. The Last Remnant and Destroy All Humans: PotF were barely playable cached; I can only imagine how bad they would have been from the DVD.
I could accept that if there were improvements. There aren't. What they've done is move things for no good reason. If you wanted to check your achievements list before, you simply had to press the middle button, then A a couple of times. Now, after pressing the middle button, you have to go left in the menu and go through to the game. WHY?!?! I can't even remember what happens if you just press the middle button and press A - I think something retarded like quitting out to the dashboard. "Hey guys, wouldn't it be funny if we took a button combination that people often use for something useful, and make it quit their game?" Err, no. Party chat? Never use it. Why? If I want to talk to my friends over Xbox Live, I PLAY A GAME WITH THEM!!! The game usually lets our party talk outside of the game, and if we're not on the same teams, we can't talk. What's wrong with that?
a lot of have a limit. Halo for example, if you have a team over 4 you have to push D pad up to talk. Party chat eliminates this feature. Also with party chat you can't hear the other team smack talking. A lot of FPS titles have "proximity voice" where if you're near the other team they can hear you. this also eliminates that. Or say my friends are playing Halo, I feel like playing Rainbow Six Vegas 2. I can still talk to them. It's like using Ventrillo when playing PC titles. It is useful. also, some FPS titles have a little beacon that appears over your head when you talk. This can give your location away when playing an FFA or something. also useful - when you lag out of a game but not off the net totally. Tell your team mates "sorry dudes I lagged out" instead of them going "wtf did he quit?" It's VERY useful.
dumping the whole DVD to disc is the most desirable feature to me and I m considering using it to its full extent when I can afford Fallout3
you could do that before too, i ve played lots of different games at the same time as someone else and we were chatting during our sessions and in the interim seamlessly, in the previous dash.
Yeah but you could only do that with one person at a time on the previous das, now you can have 8 people all playing different games in the same chat.
oh I see..never had that many friends with an XBOX actually - to be honest most of my friends who happen to own a console own a PS3 (and play pro evolution soccer etc =/)
