    Have you tried to convert the Japanese images to US ones via Saturn Region Patcher?

    By setting the region in Rhea.ini, you are turning region patching on. So you definitely always want it set to your console's region so the Rhea can patch the game to your system. By omitting the setting, region patching is turned off (and Japanese games would need to be patched manually).

    Can you paste your Rhea.ini exactly?

    What size is your SD card? I had this behavior because I was using a 64GB card. It's formatted with FAT (instead of exFAT) and games work fine, but I could never get the firmware update to work with it. I tossed the firmware on a cheap 1GB SD card and it worked perfectly the first try. There is a difference between how the Rhea reads the SD card when it's normally operating versus the firmware update process.

    I'd try another SD card for the firmware update.

    Post a desktop image grab of the root of your SD card, as well as your rhea.ini contents.

    Your memory card should be formatted for FAT32

    Bahamut, I haven't tried that yet. That was my next step, I did try one command line version that kept crashing on Win10.

    Slashbunny, I'm using a Sandisk 32GB card. Formatted in FAT32 32k cluster. US images play perfectly. With the region set to U or 2 in the ini I still get the "this disc is unsuitable for this system" when I try to boot a Japan image. Same if I set the region to Japan in the ini.
    I've tried spaces and no spaces around the = sign as 5200fanatic suggested.

    Your .ini looks correct. Not sure what's going on. Maybe try updating the firmware again. The file needs to be renamed "Rhea.fw" Slide the lock tab on the memory card put it in the saturn and turn it on. The LED should rapidly flash for about 3 secs, and then just slowly blink. Turn off the saturn, slide the tab back to unlock then put it in. If none of this is working, try another SD card, if that doesn't work. Shoot off an email to the guy.

    You shouldn't have to manually region patch any Japanese CD images. They all work flawlessly on mine with the region patcher ini.

    I do use rmenu.

    Since the FW update has never acted like it should. I will try to update again tonight. If that doesn't work then I'm just going to region patch all of my images. Its a step I shouldnt have to take, but it's a minor one.

    Try using this on a separate SD card:

    auto_region = 3
    open_time = 500
    detect_time = 250
    reset_goto = 1

    This may sound like a strange question, but... are sure you have a Rhea?
    I only ask this, because on the last page a while ago, when you were considering which device to buy, you asked for help identifying which Saturn type you had.
    To which NightbreedUK promptly responded, helping you arrive at the conclusion that you have a type 3 Saturn and so you should order a Phoebe.

    So, if what you have is a Phoebe, then the file has to be named Phoebe.ini for it to be read correctly... anyway you should always refer to Deunan's blog, all the info you need is there: https://gdemu.wordpress.com/operation/phoebe-operation

    As for the firmware, since you are using Rmenu, you can check which update version your ODE has installed by hitting the (C) button for info (should be the latest one if you acquired it recently).

    Regarding your problem updating the firmware, I've experienced some problems myself when attempting to update it while using a Sandisk 32GB microSD card with an adapter, simply changing the adapter worked for me, so if you still need to update it you can try with another card/adapter, as it was already suggested.

    What exactly would this accomplish?
    He said he has a US Saturn, so it should be 2 or U for auto_region, besides there's no point setting the timers with their default values (unless you are hot-swapping SD cards). Furthermore the "reset_goto" is something that shouldn't be used at all, since it doesn't work as indented at the moment (reset button doesn't trigger drive reset signal), in fact that's probably why it isn't even mentioned anywhere on the Rhea/Phoebe operation pages in Deunan's blog.

    It was a copy and paste from a different source. Didn't see his console as a US.

    I'd try and keep it simple before giving up completely. Grab a different SD card, format it. Try the firmware update. Try the .ini with a JP image in folder 01, nothing else on the card.

    You guys were right. I dug up an old 1gb SD card, formatted it and loaded the FW. The LED performed as Deunan said it would. Batusgun fired up, first try.

    Neuroacid, I was helping a friend get his Rhea going, he has had it for a while and was nervous to install it. My Phoebe was straightforward so I couldn't understand why the other was causing a problem.

    Thanks again guys!

    What memory card were you using that was causing issues? I've got a cheapo 64 gig I formatted FAT32 that works without issues.

    Hi could you make your script compatible with the RMENU I have around 168 games off the top of my head and sometimes I feel like adding a new one sorting them takes ages.

    This might not be useful to anyone else out there (this is probably only going to work if you are on a Linux machine), but I made a bash script to create the SD card structure in alphabetical order. It uses symbolic links, so it doesn't actually need to move any data around and you don't need to rename the actual game directories wherever you store them.

    Assumptions:
    1. Your games are in separate folders, under one parent folder (see "gamedir" variable)
    2. Folder symlinks will be created (02...99) in another folder (see "carddir" variable)
    3. The "carddir" variable is not actually the SD card. It should just be in the same file system as the games, in another directory.
    4. You have some way to copy the symlinked directories from the "carddir" to the real SD card. I personally copy from this folder over a Samba share on a Windows machine onto the SD card.
    5. You copy RMENU into 01 as you normally would and run the RMENU executable as you normally would. This simply creates the other folders in alphabetical order, it doesn't replace the need to do the normal RMENU stuff.

    You can use the SD card tool for GDEMU. Works perfectly for Rhea too. It takes all your images and puts them into folders on the SD card.

    Is there any way to skip the "Sega" and "Saturn" logos? Like a quick boot?

    Is it normal that with the lastest FW 3.8.1, when i set the auto freq on, and launch an EU image, the Sat is not siwtching in 50Hz ?

    Obviously i soldered the pin 79 to the Rhea, the Rhea.ini is at the root of my sd and correctly configured, and it's not a multi region image...
