Afaik, CDI doesn't include the subchannel data, but it does include the EDC/ECC data.
    Case in point: A Dreamcast CDI is in mode2 form1 2336 bytes/sector format. (sync/MSF/mode isn't included).

I only re-ripped mine for my hardware menu that I had before rmenu was a thing. I need a consistent format, and a single cdi file made things easier.

Thanks folks for the advice. What I learned that is if there's a flaw in an image where the menu program cannot read it, then the program will stop at that folder and not go beyond that folder. So, I had a bad image in Folder 02, so the program kept hanging up. When I moved the images around is when I saw the problem. So, if I had the bad image in folder 05, then the program would read disks 01-04 and stop.

That's good advice, as I had issues with mine not getting past 34, and figured out eventually it was a bad image. Removed it and it continued as normal.

Is there a way to set up the Rhea as region free? I did try to set up a SD card as Japan Region but I must have been doing something wrong with the rhea.ini file? What is the correct way please to set it up as a Japan Region or Multi Region, if possible?

Set the code based on what kind of saturn you own, not the games you're trying to play.
    • auto_region = N
Where N is the code for your console region, or -1 to disable the patcher (the default setting). The codes can be specified in numeric or single letter format:

    0 (or J): JAPAN, 1 (or T): TAIWAN and PHILIPINES, 2 (or U): USA and CANADA, 3 (or B): BRAZIL, 4 (or K): KOREA, 5 (or A): ASIA PAL area, 6 (or E): EUROPE, 7 (or L): LATIN AMERICA

Yes, thanks aI did see that. But if I have a US Saturn but want to play Japanese Region games, can you do that with the Rhea?

Thanks -- this is what I found. The .ini file has to be set to auto_region=U rather than auto_region = U. So no spaces before and after the "=". Also, I'm having no problems with a 64GB SanDisk SD (basic blue one) formatted at FAT32.

This is a dumb question....I apologize. I'm trying to identify if I need a phoebe or rhea. As help as his guide is, my Saturn doesn't match any examples. The drive in mine is a JVC EXL P605. I can't find that listed. Mine appears to be a type 4 but mine does not have the white border around the PCB. I must be over thinking this

Look above the 'JVC EXL P605' - does it say 610-6185-20 like this?

    610-6185-20.jpg

If it does then according to Zyrobs awesome posts at Sega 16 your machine will be a VA6-9 and should have a 32 pin IC (Which would make it a type 3 Phoebe)
I would of course double check to be sure though before ordering :)

Just wanted to mention that the Sony 64GB SDXC UHS (class 10) works fine with the Rhea. I find with cdi's, 64GB is plenty of space for most of the good titles (i'm not a fan of dumping the entire library onto the card as there are a lot of crap games to sift through).

Disregard people. Pay attention to the orientation of the pins on the FFC. I could swear previous instructions said pins should face down. Mine had to face upwards.

I seem to be the guy who can't do anything right with the Rhea.
I have a US Saturn. I've got the Rhea installed and running US CDI's, but I can't get Japanese .CDI's to play. I've created a Rhea.ini and have tried setting the region to U as 5200fanatic suggested. No luck. I even tried setting the region to Japan. The Japanese .CDI's still didn't load but US .CDI's did. It's clear that the .ini isn't being recognized by the Rhea. I thought the Rhea was supposed to auto region patch.

Possibly of note, I've tried updating the firmware several times. I'm not certain that it's actually worked. I have followed the instructions to the letter but the LED does not behave as described. When I turn on the Saturn the LED lights up for a few seconds and goes out. Then it turns on for 3 seconds and turns off. Then on again for 3 sec etc etc. This is the latest run of Rhea's surely Deunan installed the latest FW before shipping?

Does anyone know what's going on with my Rhea?
