I'm not sure if they hate us b/c of his attitude, or b/c we're stupid enough to put people like this not only in the military, but high ranking.

This guy is exactly what is wrong with our military.

It should not be "fun to shoot people." It should be a last resort. Our soldiers should be professionals with a sense of honor and duty, not jock dickheads. How much different is this from "It's fun to beat up nerds?"

Just so you all know, I come from a military family. Both my grandfathers fought in WWII (one of them was a resistance fighter in the Philippines, living in the jungle, eating tree slugs, sleeping in mud, etc. at age. 17. When I was 17, I was playing Super Mario World. ) My father is a col. in the airforce who just spent nine months out of last year overseas (five of those in Iraq) and they won't let him retire just yet becasue of troop shortages.

Essentially, they ask you nicely to re-up, and if you refuse, they reinlist you anyway, until the year of 2031. Not making this up.

I didn't join. I have some problems with authority that I think makes me incompatible with the armed forces. But I know how a soldier's family feels when he's put in danger.

And to know they put shitheads like this in charge... no wonder everything is so fucked up.

 

Sorry if i go off-topic but the USA way of dealing with conflits is what makes more mad people (a.k.a Terrorists) hate you even more.

Bush still thinks the Iraq Election was a success and that will bring the peace to the country. And now it seems he wants trouble with Iran.

I'll have to go with what Assembler says. Marines, and the military overall is trained to kill. Thats what you join the military for, to have a license to kill during a conflict. They give you that mentality in order to survive, and its the same in other countries too. Of course you have your one in a million type of guys who goes psycho and kills innocent people and tries to blame the military for making him a killing machine. Well the military did its job but it was his choice for taking it further. The media makes it seem like the military isn't supposed to kill people, wtf?

I don't disagree that their job is killing people, but that's a job you should not enjoy. I hope someone will put me out of my misery when I ever get to the point of thinking it's fun to inflict pain on/kill other humans.

 

Im actually glad there are guys like this, becuase i dont think i could kill anyone. Its evident the terroist have no regard for life. So it all equals out.

I live not in the US but UNDER the US, and I can tell you this. People will stop fucking with America when the American government stops fucking with everybody else.

We latinos will stop "stealing american jobs" (bigot-talk) when our government stops giving multinationals the right to abuse our citizens at home, for shit pay without being able to have rights or progress just because you're not a rich, white foreigner.

Islamic fundamentalism comes from the repression of Islamic values, brought by the forced westernization of formerly muslim colonies. So, basically, force people to lose their values, and they defend them to death. Want people to become suicide bombers? Destroy their lifes and make them have nothing else to lose. Destroy their futures and homes, kill their families and deny them progress and human rights. Then blame them.

You know why latin americans hate the US? Because they overthrew democratically elected governments and placed murderers like Pinochet in power, so "socialism" could not "taint" american minds. The mexican government killed 3000 students in 1968, October Second, orders of the American government. In the seventies, tens of thousands of argentinians died, so rich american politicians could sell "democracy" to the people. Reagan's cronies killed over ten thousand latin americans during the 80s.

Your logic is a complete phalacy, my friend. You're too much of a coward to kill somebody else? No, it's called "regard for life". If more people had more regard for life than they have for money and control, there'd be no need to "liberate" Iraq's oil or Latin America's "democracy"

It's also wrong to blame the US for everything. I really believe the american people have values, even if some of them are badly misled by the media and politicians. The people of my country are the same as well. Maybe every other country has this.

I was taught by americans and canadians, and I can say almost every american I know is a really cool person, regardless of their political standings.

It's the people in power, both in the US and Mexico, and probably mostly everywhere else, that keep manipulating decent people and turning them into killing machines or exploited consumers.

Thinking for ourselvs, feeling regard for ourselves and others, and truly wanting this world to progress or at least survive might help change the flow of things. If you regard life, you're doing something right. Don't let any political propaganda convince you otherwise. Killing is wrong, whether it's killing 3000 innocent american civilians or 3000 innocent iraqi civilians, or any quantity of soldiers anywhere.

It's really sad mankind fights over who has more pieces of paper or metal, over imaginary lines of land that don't really exist, or over the invisible man in the sky, that spoke to everybody in different tongues to different interpretation.

As for a soldier not being a politician.... this is true.

But then they shouldn't have let this moron talk to the politicians in the first place. How this asshole became a general is beyond me.

I have upmost respect for our soldiers and our military. But sometimes it seems like the top brass are totally out to lunch.

 

The fact of the matter is that before the bush administration, we conducted our foreign affairs properly, and the rest of the world resented the US anyways out of sheer jealousy.. And now our president just makes it that much easier for these "haters" (sorry to go wigger on everybody) to really dig in.... Its become almost fashionable more than anythign else to be anti american.. Which is just total irony.

Well, it can go wrong in the completely different direction as well, and then you get something akin to the Dutch "army". We went in to protect the muslims in Srebrenica, where we got overrun by Serbians with outdated Soviet equipment so everybody fled the scene - running down a few people with tanks - while their commander was calling the Serbian general "a professional who knows what he's doing", then our government spends 8 years and millions of euros on research committees who in the end decide to blame nobody.

And when one of our soldiers shot somebody in Iraq, he got promptly arrested before investigation could take place.

Oh yeah we are so jealous at your outrageously high pollution and consumption, not to mention you forcing your shabby culture on other nations, AHEM.
