I got my OUYA yesterday and like a normal guy I dismantle it to see its guts. Here some pics. Added controller.
The heat sink is soldered to the board and the little sucker generate more heat that I imagine. Hex I haven't dismantle the controller yet.
alot of phone hardware gets very hot when used intensively, i don’t see an issue with a fan in the home environment where it would be used to extended periods.
Well, how many phones do you see with fans inside? This...thing is still just phone hardware inside a different case, if it was competently designed the case would function as a heat sink just like it does with phones.
none but my point was phones are designed for mobile use battery powered for when you're on the go. i'd rather it have the fan and not need it than not have the fan and be an extra heater, phones are the way they are because they need to be, this does not need to be the way a phone is, even if it's similar to phone hardware
Looks neat to me, I think it's quite bold to enter such a saturated market with a new non-big 3 device. I wish them good luck, I might try it myself. I've seen the videos on Youtube, for the price of the hardware if it has a few good games, it might be enough to get it started. This market needs some disruption, hopefully it's not free or cheap games with infinite amount of in-app purchase to get the whole game. I don't really like that business model.
Sorry, we're not all down for buying [insert cheap generic android garbage here] with a laughable library because [insert company here] region locked their console and we can't play the latest [insert lame overdone JRPG here].
Ouya, My name is Inigo Montoya, You killed my father, Prepare to die. Seriously though, whats up with everyone here lately, Too many X Sucks comments no enough _______ was awesome comments
Mainly just their bullshit marketing, this thing was marketed as an INDIE REVOLUTION or whatever when it's really just another Android stick except with a controller and made by an incompetent company with a PR woman who lies and spins about their production working just fine when it's clearly not. The whole thing just doesn't make sense when you give it the slightest thought: it's Android but you can't use the Google Play store unless you sideload it, meaning that the devs are stuck with Ouya's own store and miniscule install base compared to any other platform you could develop indie games for (XBLIG and especially PC).
I updated with the controller. I had to desolder the right analog because it has a lose piece and keep turning right. Next thing I going to do is change the analogs with PS3 replacement there are better quality, these are too tight.
