Yeah, this happens every now and then, I buy a game expecting it to be good but then it exceeds my expectations. Asuka 120% Burning fest limited is one such games. Simple Depth I think is a good way to describe it. It's one of those games I wish was still around it wasn't bogged down by overly complicated joystick movements and comboing wasn't impossible. So it got me thinking, the 90s fighting game boom had 100s of fighters nobody played but were just as deep if not deeper than what SNK and Capcom was putting out at the time. A few just to get started and this is by no mean my complete list. Asura Buster/Blade- Part Guilty Gear, Part Samurai Shodown, with music and visuals that are a bit Powerstonesque sticks to the simple but deep principal. 3 attack buttons only a few characters (12-14 if I remember right) Looked good played well, never made it to the West and was never ported to anything, it would've been a great a Saturn game though had it been ported, even the Dreamcast it wouldn't have seemed out of place on. Daraku Tenshi- Psikyo did a fighter well they did 2 this and Battle K-Road (also a decent never ported fighter), it was unfinished and rushed, but what we got wasn't too bad, No stupid projectiles just 1 on 1 fighting and huge sprites a bit drab looking through but it played well for an unfinished Fighter. Again it kept the roster small which apparently is the key. Keeping with the theme, this was never ported, and probably again would have made a good Dreamcast game Dragoon Might- Konami Does Samurai Shodown, A bit of KOF in there too. It did a few things nobody else did at the time like using the enviornment during a fight the cast was interesting and different but it had a 6 button control scheme and was a bit complicated but over all it was enjoyable. AND like the others never ported. Those are just my first three there are others of course. Although right now my favorite of the bunch was my originally mentioned Asuka 120% it had a ton of sequels so it can't have been that over looked but I only know about it from Mugen.
the was a fighter on saturn with only chick on it.. it wasn't that bad. Also the ranma fighting game on snes was pretty cool.
Pretty sure there are two...Asuka 120% is the one that's pretty good, the other one whose name I can't remember is terrible.
I remember spending alot of time at a friends house playing World Heros (snes). I remember it being pretty good, but this was before i got Street Fighter II turbo :friendly_wink:
D-Xhird and Zero Divide are also good ones on Saturn. Actually, could Last Bronx be considered overlooked? Yeah, it's by Sega but nobody really ever remembers it.
Yeah... it's practically the National Sport of Japan. I don't think it's that over looked maybe under appreciated but not overlooked and Definatly not anywhere near obscure I have Evil Zone and it is a fun game for what it is. Very Simple but it's the same thing that makes Asuka 120% so good, It's simple but there is Some depth I would say so. Sega had a few decent over looked fighters, Last Bronx was good but got lost in the fray next to Soul Edge/Blade. Sega also had a decent 32x fighter Cosmic Carnage a bit bloody, very colorful and fun for what it was, And there's Revengers of Vengence on the Sega/Mega CD, not sure if Sega was behind that one or Telenet. the Girly fighters on Saturn were Pretty Fighter X, Asuka 120% Limited burning fest, and Advanced V.G. Varible Geo and Asuka 120% were both created by the same person too btw. Ehgriz was Power Stone before Power Stone
Destrega: Incredibly underrated! Power Stone 2: Doesn't get enough love... Martial Masters: Seriously, this game needs to be released to the home market! Gundam Battle Assault 2: Broke as shit game but very fun to play. Battle Fantasia: If it ain't GG or BB, I guess no one cares Samurai Shodown SEN: The game is no where near as bad as people make it out to be.
I wasn't crazy about either Destrega or Battle Fantasia but I understand Battle Fantasia influenced Street Fighter IV. Martial Masters is near Street Fighter III in Animation detail. Most games on that hardware (PGM I think?) looked like shit paintings but not Martial Masters. Shodown Sen- It has it's problems but I enjoy it. Probably the best 3d showdown. I'll also Add Kakuto Chojin. Bad Reviews and Islamophobia held this game back but it's at it's core a simplified Tekken with 4 players.
But it has a hardcore fanbase When Virtua Fighter 3 came out I saw huge machines with rear projection monitors everywhere sometimes rows of VF3 machines. It may not be as huge as Street Fighter or Tekken but Virtua Fighter is beloved. Though honestly I think they half assed the home port of Final Showdown, the Achivements are WAY too easy and for a 2 Gig download I'm disappointed there's no quest mode. OH another fighter that doesn't get much love. Rumble Fish. For what it is It's a decent fighter, nothing amazing but it's good and with the right polish could be great hopefully with it's recent revival a 3rd game will fix all the issues the series has.
The Rumble Fish Chaos Breaker Daemon Bride Akatsuki Blitzkampf Monster 1.11b Destruction Desire Just a few lessEr known/doujin fighting games I like. Haven't played all of them, Chaos Breaker and Daemon Bride are two I've always wanted to play, but there's plenty of time to get round to it.
Chaos Breaker is fanfuckingtastic. I think it's on PSN now and (and the Arcade game has been dumped too...)
