    Hi guys,

Ive found info on how to do it with XeBuild and RGH etc but no XDK information. Would anyone be able to advise the best method on how to pair a retail DVD drive to an XDK. Specifically its a Slim XDK, so a lite-on drive I believe.

    Thanks!

You just place it in. They aren't married to the boards in relation in XDK.

I do sometimes, so I take it that will mean I will need to change the DVD key on my NAND? It's been about 5 / 6 years since I've done this haha

It wouldnt read retail formatted discs. Which is essentially what that would be, no? (Minus shadowboot etc, dunno about those)

Yeah, so they ARE married but it doesn't matter if you're using the xdk in its intended use; ie: not Shadowbooting and pirating.

So you can just drop ANY Xbox 360 DVD drive of ANY model into ANY revision of XDK motherboard and it will run xex (and xbe with comp files) based discs natively. When you get into Shadowbooting and whatnot, yeah it operates just like a retail console in which in order to play retail discs the DVD drive needs to be married to the board. But at this juncture, why mess about with it and just buy a retail console?

That is true that it can read the disk natively and launch the xex, but the other usefulness is getting to read retail disk for dumping.

Which is why I mentioned piracy.

Get a retail and install games to a USB drive then rip that out with xtaf then convert that to ISO then unpack that to files...... I swear its easier then it sounds....

I have a 0800 drive if I ever need to rip correctly, so that's not an issue, but it was nice just to stick a game in the drive and take one file if needed, if I didn't have the ISO. But I found that I actually have the original dev logic board for the DVD drive, so I'm going to swap it out with the retail one. That should work fine right?

Hey so a little off-topic, but worth a shot:

I've recently acquired a shadowbooting tool (patches a file from my XDK). Once its done it outputs a few other files. Could someone please PM me and instruct me on where to place these files?

I tried dragging them all into the root of my HDD but that just caused an endless loading sequence and I had to take off the sidecar and manually delete the files to get the XDK working again. I'm 95% sure that the tool is legitimate and that it just comes down to me not knowing where to place the files, so if anyone is able to help I'd greatly appreciate it.

(Also I realise that shadowbooting is a really "hush hush" topic, but considering other members from this forum have publicly explained what it does, I can't see the logic in being so secretive about it anymore?)

    also @XboxSurgeon

My XNA's dvd drive isn't the original, and yet shadowboot plays retail games just fine.. I don't get why everyone thinks it doesn't o_O

Pretty much everyone has shadowboot these days, I can't conceive of a kit on assembler games that doesn't have the bin file on the HDD already. Pretty sure 21256.12 shadow is leaked everywhere. (most likely 7sins premium) - Also, are you sure your patched file is for that exact recovery?

Shadowboot for .12 is not in 7s premium.

I actually have the .18 shadowboot.

It's been a while since I last tried and I'm starting from scratch. The first problem I'm getting is the MSVCR100.dll is missing error, which I don't remember how to fix as I know its in both the shadowboot folder and System32.

The second problem is there's a few files that are outputted if I remember correctly and I don't know where to place them. Do I just place them into the root of my HDD or are there designated folders? I'll explain better once I can get that MSVCR100.dll error to go away.

    Thanks

[EDIT]: Fixed the error. Now just need to figure out how to use this aha. I'm trying to use the Retail disc patch btw.

Realistically it should only be xboxromw2d that is being compiled? I'm not sure about the other files :p But yeah, the rom goes on the root of the HDD or more specifically: "Retail Hard Drive Emulation (HDD: )" - You'll notice the boot times are really, really slow while its patching the kernal. The screen goes black after the xbox logo so give it a minute.
