    Hi ASSEMBLERS,

I do own couples of Panasonic Q console (4 actually). I'm repairing and customizing them. I also switched one to PAL by creating a custom RGB connector and replacing the motherboard.

I'ld like to get it region free with DVDs so I ordered the below disc. Is that all I need ? Do you know a procedure ?

Panasonic Service Disc TS20 (disc 2) - Unlimited Trade Dealer edition from multiregionupgrade.com

    Please let me know :)

you also need to add some ram chips.

There may also be additional things, as the mod had 2 pics (i believe one is for the region change, so you can ignore that. But not sure what the second one did).

    Hi,

Thanks for the answer. I do already have a JAP/US Panasonic Q also.

Do you have more details on the procedure ?

Yes, I'm also working with a professional plastic modeler so he can recreate that f***ing pieces of plastic that breaks within all Panasonic Q.

Last but not least, someone on eBay is selling proper rubber band for the DVD tray ! They're working perfectly !

Can you give the link? I replaced mine with a rubber band that's a little too tight, so it doesn't work. There is so many broken plastics in mine, but it works (at least it used to...).

Are you getting them off Yahoo auctions Japan? What kind of faults do they typically have?

Yes. Basically all of them have broken DVD tray and tired rubber band.

Expect them to arrive with ALL internal plastics partially broken. Except from that, they're fine.

How do you typically fix the broken dvd tray? I assume for the rubber band you can just put in another one.

It depends, sometime it only needs:
    Cleaning: to remove dust, grease.
    Glueing: instant glue.
Paper sanding: to remove excess of plastic and glue.
Grease: to ensure the DVD tray will slide gently.
Replace the rubber band ! That's the most effective part, trust me.

Europe and Japan share the same DVD Region... Still i understood somewhere I might need a RAM patch because pal draw more lines...

    True ?

EDIT: Now that my Pana is using SCART RGB, I'll try to solder from the internal s-video to RGB connector in order to only use this one.

Did you ever receive the Panasonic service disc to unlock the region? A few of us on here have not yet been successful in locating one or getting someone who could dump a raw image of one we could author and use.

Hi, a friend and myself make the rails for these systems, and do a complete overhaul of them. So far we've probably tackled about 5 through eBay, you can check out our link here:

    Thanks!

I think all you have to do (if there's room inside the console to fit an RGB encoder?) is restore the connector back to its Super Famicom configuration. Then you'll be able to use premade cables.
It has enough pins for simultaneous s-video and RGB output.

Is there a good writeup to change the region? I'm also interested in new plastic for the tray as I just bought a broken one as well. That link no longer works though. Also I realize this is bringing the post back from the dead but this was the best search result I found. Does anyone know the part number for a remote? Or if other panasonic remotes for dvd players will work?

The broken link is because the board was reinstalled to a different directory and there isn't any rewrite rule to update the old links to the new ones. Just replace the /l/ in the URL with a /
