People seem to be spelling DOOM for the Wii U...

I bought a Wii U on launch day and loved it since. Got some of the best games of the last 3 years. The top 10 games in no particular order:
    Mario 3D World
    Super Smash Bros Wii U
    Bayonetta 1+2
    Hyrule Warriors
    Zelda Wind Waker
    Pikmin 3
    Mario Kart 8
    Splatoon
    ZombiU
    Captain Toad Treaure Tracker

That's not including the download games, indies and virtual console games available aswell. Granted, I'd much rather play the VC games on the actual consoles (which is why I do), but still.

Hey now, just cause you didn't like it. Sheesh.

I actually thought it was a pretty decent game. Perhaps it doesn't belong on that list though...

Kind of doesn't matter because soon it won't be exclusive any more.

ZombiU was one of the better zombie games I've seen. It's just that Ubisoft didn't throw much manpower or money into it, so folks who have never played it like to hate on it.

I wouldn't say it was one of the good Wii U games though, it's very out of place on that list. Nothing Ubisoft produce these days even worth touching either.
If you like the game, good I suppose.

But it won't have any of the unique features it had on Wii U.

That's no real loss to be honest. I played Zombie-U when it was released and did like it but the Wii tablet thing just annoyed me. Gaming with a controller, that's all I want. I don't want to be looking at two different displays.

Personally, I knew the Wii-U would be a flop from the beginning. Main reason why I never bought one. I'm no Nintendo hater but I honestly can't stand their main IPs being Mario and Pokemon. They do nothing for me. Anyway, I still stand by my statement that the Super Famicom was the greatest Nintendo home console ever made. Such a fantastic system.

Indeed. They've been either scrambling for gimmicks or making obvious missteps with their home consoles ever since, unfortunately.

The Gamecube was awesome. None of their later consoles have come anywhere close to being as good.

While the GC did have a solid set of games, it really should have utilized full sized discs. I think the GC is Nintendo's most underrated console and the N64 is their most overrated. Super Mario Sunshine, Luigi's Mansion and WindWaker now finally have received the love they initially deserved, Double Dash!! is still my personal favorite MK game, Eternal Darkness was amazing, etc. To quote an astute observer, the Wii was the Tickle Me Elmo of video games.

I wouldn't call the GC that underrated, as it was going on the N64 hype.

In regards to being underrated, I would say the Wii U is moreso.

You have to look at everything surrounding it, though. The PS2 was killing it and people were pretty excited about Microsoft's first console. It certainly helped that SEGA was all over Microsoft when they were working on it. Both the PS2 and XBOX could play DVDs (The XBOX required the Movie Playback Kit), which was a big deal at the time. Both also had huge games lined up, like GTAIII, Halo, etc., although the XBOX launch titles were a bit poor. Both also had an online presence. The Gamecube didn't do DVDs, it utilized smaller discs which nobody else was using, it didn't have nearly as much of an online presence and the games were considered disappointing. Luigi's Mansion was severely under-appreciated as a launch title. SMS & WW got lukewarm receptions upon release. DD!! had middling returns and most people didn't seem to care about Mario Party anymore. Also multi plats were considered stunted due to the disc constraint.

To counter, right now, the PS4 and XB1 are dominant in the console market, and there are some phenomenal games out for the Wii U (like Smash, MK8, Splatoon, etc). They are finally pulling their heads out of their butts in regards to online play, though it's more baby steps (and it's free).

Honestly, the Wii U parallels the GC pretty well all things considered.

There's an outside chance Nintendo could succeed for first-party only titles, but it's gonna take a bit more effort, and a tweaked online system would help (I really don't get Miiverse, and I have a Wii U). Having backwards compatibility out of the box would be great if there were a ton of great Wii games to play (even titles in its biggest multiplayer franchises (Mario Kart and Smash) were seen as subpar compared to their predecessors).

Pushing the Pro controller more would certainly help, because it's a lot better for multiplayer than the Wiimote.

Star Fox 64 or Lylat Wars as it was called here in the UK was incredible back in the day. Loved it and played the hell out of it. I've wanted Nintendo to make a true sequel to it (which was already a remake of the original SNES game) but alas they haven't yet! The new Star Fox U game has got my hopes up after the trailer though.

Quoted for truth. It's so obvious but to give credit, they sure know how to milk a handheld with many revisions that they probably had in mind when developing the original.

As for the great Wii-U games, Mario Kart again, Smash Brothers again, Star Fox again. It's the same on every Nintendo console since the SFC. It's always the same names. Oh look, a new Zelda. Oh, another Mario. OMG! MARIO KART!!! It's starting to get very tired after 15 years. The only real major big new IP seems to be Splatoon and that's a new release.

I know the other consoles have all those stupid Call of Duty games and so on year after year but there's also much more in the way of new ideas and IPs that are actually good. This is what Nintendo have been loosing out on for such a long time. Just look at some of the incredible games the Wii-U is missing out on. Witcher 3, amazing game and best game I've played in years with over 380 hours put in to it. The new Batman game. Again a very good game. Then there's all the sports shit. Hate it myself but it sells consoles.

As a sports fan outside of video games, I really think that, especially used older sports titles (rarely over $10 unless it's a rare title or something) give you a great amount of gameplay for the money.

It seems Nintendo has put forth new IPs with their less successful consoles, the Gamecube got the first Pikman games, and Chibirobo, and the Wii U has Splatoon, but it's difficult for Nintendo to make new IPs when they're publishing more games than most any big publisher.

I agree that it's underrated, or at least it was underrated when it was still in production. I think I only knew one other person who had a Gamecube. It was my first console of that generation, and probably my favorite. It had some pretty impressive graphical abilities for the time, and it had some really good games, both first-party and third-party. It does seem like there's more of an interest among collectors now than the interest of people in general when it was still being sold. It doesn't have a huge library like the PS2, but it has some really good games that make the system worth owning.
