A friend of mine got a release candidate version of the unreleased game "Return Fire" (Sega Saturn) from Prolific Publishing Inc.

Prolific Publishing is a bit lazy about allowing the game being released to the Saturn szene - so my friend started an online petition to speed things up.

Here's the link to the petition:

Any Saturn fan should support the project - the game won't be leaked without permission!

Please support us: Copy this text and post in all videogame forums.

Is that the game where you have the tank, helicopter and truck and you have to blow up bunkers and stuff? If it is then that is a pc game.

I remember a PC game of the same name. I'm assuming this is a Saturn port, though. Quite interesting, I should give it a sign :).

The game is slow, glitchy, and quite a poor port. That is why it wasn't released.

Also, I'm not sure that Prolific hold the copyrights.

"released" interesting word. To properly release a Saturn game, you need to send it to Sega to be burnt. Sega won't do that. Do you REALLY think a publisher is going to say, "Yeah, I'll let you illegally reproduce this"?

Is your friend Mr Saturn? He's had it ages and been "trying" to release it for ages - truth is they won't reply to him.

Yeah, but the saturn port SUCKED, that's why it was canned. Believe me.

I know the guy has been sitting on this for ages (no pun) - and retro, I dont think he is actually considering to get Sega to press this game, rather (I think) he is asking for permission to leak it, which is a nice thing to do I think.

Exactly - illegally. To legally "release" a game, you need Sega to press it.

He is asking the publisher whether they will let him illegally pirate it and distribute it. He seems also to be under the illusion that he would have some right to sell CD-R copies. He was also looking for a way to self boot CDs (in other words, illegally circumvent Sega's copy protection) - it doesn't exist.

So yeah, wonder why the publisher is ignoring him.

It isn't a PC game, it is an Amiga game ;) There may have been a PC port, but it is an Amiga game, I think you'll find.

It was never on Amiga, the game is 3D for a start, unless you mean it's based on an older Amiga game?

Read those photographs better :p It talks of it as a "decent enough conversion of the classic blaster"

  18. As there is a bit of confusion: The game was released on 3D0, Playstation, and the PC. I've never heard of an Amiga port of it, but that's not to say there wasn't one. I'm not sure which is the original system, although I think either the 3D0 or PC was first - the PSX version is definately a port.

EDIT: Ah yes, it does state it was an Amiga game initially in the article. I think still the 3DO or PC version was next, as I distinctly remember the PSX version being a port of one of the two - in which case it's a port of a port, ne?

The game won't be an official release on a pressed CD-Rom - he asks for permission to share it with the Saturn community.

What's wrong with that ? Source-codes of likely old games have been given free by other companies - games that even were a lot better.

Prolific Publishing will have no loss if they allow the game to be shared and we would have another nice Saturn game we never played before.

So please sign that Petition and support that project.

@Retro: Stop bashing this project - that's really dumb. Mr. Saturn doesn't want to make money with a self-release. He wanted to press the game on CD and print nice covers, that's all he wanted some bucks for. Anyway, if it's given free you won't have a problem to download it from the web and burn it on a CD-R media - if you're on the cheap site.
