What codecs does the PS3 support that the Xbox 360 doesn't? My only codec experience is having the PS3 choke on playback of an MP4 file that the 360 played seamlessly. I also know of a few folks that had issues with Xvid/Divx playback on the PS3 because the PS3 only supports the official Divx profiles whereas the 360 supports Xvid which is a bit more lax in its specs. No reason for it not to be. So long as you have the hard drive, the BC is 100% software so it is 100% free. -hl718
I have the opposite experience, my PS3 plays anything I throw at it (other than MKV's and Bleach) and the 360 doesn't play them.
No fanboy fighting stuff, ok ? Oh well I sucked it up and updated my old PS3. It's not like I'm willing to open my PS3, hook a forest of wires in it, run it open to hack and in the end it be useful only to play pirated games ... I'm sad for seeing Linux go, though...
Really that's what I hate most about sony, that they take features out, I've said it countless times. Their games are amazing and they do have the best controller out there 15 years and they haven't changed their controller drastically that's good design right there. If they'd just leave well enough alone and stop taking features out of their hardware
I do want to punch the Sony PR person in the face who keeps up coming up with all the crap to try and make features they had removed sound positive. I am not a big Linux user but I do use it every so often mainly to do things like word processing, listen to FLAC files and open emails that I can't do with the PS3 internet browser. It's very handy when I am in a country and I don't have a adapter plug for my netbook or I have issues and now I can't do that. At least on the PS3 I don't have to (yet...) make up a stupid avatar just to use the machine.
i hope you're talking about the hardware as in the console itself. people have some stupid reasons for not liking the 360. avatars, fee for online, ring of death, no blu-ray. those are all crap arguments.
The interface as well, it's just a giant mess. People hate the XMB, but I guarantee you can find things in half the time it takes on the 360.
Preemptive strike? WTF? Seems to me all you can do is postpone the RROD, at best, plus void your warranty, you're gonna get it eventually, no matter what. And when your 3 years of warranty are over, you're screwed!
With Microsoft current policy, they WON'T touch violated consoles anymore. If you send a violated/opened console in for repair, regardless of the reason it was opened, you will find it back on your doorstep not serviced *AND* blacklisted (banned) on XBOX Live service.
