amazing, I m really into palaiontology - you should have them examined by someone and you never know, you might make the next great discovery about some long lost species of animal or plant!

Alternatively, you could sell them for a healthy profit =)

yes,the idea is great, but i am to deep in at work..you only find some plants in a deep from 1200meter..animals,like fishes lie at a deepneff of ca. 900meter.

You're right, I didn't give much thought to the whole depth matter. Have you guys found any ammonites? their fossils seem to be quite readily available at that area.

Of course I m still daydreaming about the Iguanodon fossil-orgy down at the Belgian mines circa 1878 (322 m depth)!

i dont know if someone have found ammonites, because its a big mine and you cant know every person.
i really want to find some ammonites or bugs, but i dont have time to search, becaus i must work and cant play searcher.
    Worse luck!

Most excellent to see the people who keep Germany running.

It's micro-pellet coal right? for power.

the payment is not very good for this hard job,but its ok because we have 51 days "holidays" in the year!
As assembler says, the coal is for power.
In Germany exist not more than 5 coal mines, the rest are all closed.
    Thanks damned politician!
Till 2012 there will be only 2 mines left, till 2018 the last will /must close, and germany is totally addicted from other countrys, lie russia (gas, oil) or china (coal)

Interesting, I assume you also make a nice bit of cash there.

I've been a while at the huge Veba Oil Plant in GE Horst, in the IT section. It was only a short while but sure was a great time. I got in there through a friend who was about to get his master degree and it was kinda like a tasty tryout. Not easy to get a chance as well aside from doing a Praktikum (Internship).

How is the security there? Since you can make so many photos I suppose there is none. I had to go through security checkpoints all the time and photos where strictly forbidden obviously ;-)

Quite a world on its own, especially the sheer size of the plant. Like you step into another city, kinda like an alternated communism world where everything is industrial, lol.

edit: Oh yeah, on a interesting history note back in the cold war the plant I was on used to inhabit a KZ. However the bombing runs over the city largely destroyed it so there is not much left of it. Ah well.

of course its not allowed to make pictures when you are under the earth, but no one have seen this and the pictures are good memories.
i dant want the time of communism back, but as you know,if germany is addicted from other countrys, the price for oil and coal will became very high..
I know the Veba Oil,because i am there at a shool internship for 8 years! As you say,its so big as town!

Well another reason you cannot take a picture deep inside the mine is the possibility of the camera flash igniting any small coal dust that might be inside the camera as it was transported down there.

Would you happen to know the sulfur content in your coal? The lower the sulfur content is, the cleaner it burns and more environmentally friendly.

I think Chinese coal has more sulfur than even Mexico's coal.

Why can't Germany go nuclear like the french and be much more energy independent? Oh yeah, it's all political!
