It all depends on two things. Hype and price. If Sony can keep the hype up and the price down it doesn't matter if the launch games are inferior to what the Xbox 360 currently has out. They proved that with the Dreamcast.

The only market the 360 has any hope at topping is the US market. I'm certain that the PS3 is going to top the european market again. Really, the only thing the 360 does have going for it is its early release. Sony have a superior console and superior developer backing.
I'm going to have a PS3 and a Revolution. The only question is whether or not I'll spring for a 360 and I think that'll be the case in a lot of cases, here in Europe at least.

Finally someone mentioned it... early releases to jump the competitor's gun didn't work there.

Interesting point, I'd not considered that. I don't think there's really that much of a chance of Xbox overtaking Sony though - the sales in this generation haven't been that close, PS2 was still massively ahead last I checked, and people need PS3's to replace their old/broken PS2s ;)

i don't understand why you guys don't just buy them all...
after the 360 is out, you have a full 5 months to save up for a ps3... and nintendo's new box wont cost that much im sure.

at the end of the day, you will enjoy playing halo3 and killzone 2, so why not own both... forget the fanboy attitude and just have the best of both worlds.

Not buying all three consoles isn't being fanboyish. I'm not going to part with €300 for a console that has few games I want to play. If it's worth it I'll buy all three, if not I wont. Plus there's only so much room in my sitting room, and only so many inputs on my SCART block.

Simple economics mate - there's other things we'd rather spend money on, such as food, accomodation, necessities, and the rest on games for consoles we already own or other forms of entertainment like CDs/DVDs/cinema/whatever. Not everyone has a huge amount of disposable income, I know I certainly don't, and I intend to work very hard over the summer to work off the debt I'm already in. The idea of spending large amounts of money on launch hardware for all three systems is outside of my realms of possibility right now, that is, if I want to be able to afford any games to go with them and still eat. I'm not trying to make this a sob story, but I've noticed your blase attitute to spending before: seriously, I'm not the only one here who can't afford it. Take it on board.

If Sony can really get some incredible footage out on TV and really saturate the airwaves with hype, I think that Microsoft's days are numbered. This is almost exactly the same as the Dreamcast launch, with Xbox360 hitting in Fall and then PS3 in late winter/spring.

If PS3 is really as superior as ASSEMbler says it is, then Sony won't hesitate to show the world that.

I dunno why Sony's not selling anything else though, I figured their TV business was doing pretty good, lots of people in the US will still only buy a Sony. Aren't they still doing pretty decent Minidisc business in Japan too?

I'll be buying a revolution on launch, and possibly, if its £200 or less, 360 on launch, else I'll be buying a 360 after revolution.

PS3 Doesn't get a look in for me - If i buy it it'll be towards the end of its life-cycle..

The DC was released before the PS2 and it did not affect the sales. (Which is a shame as the DC was a fantastic system).

I'm sold for the PS3 because:
    - Killzone
    - MGS4
    - Gran Turismo 5
    - Warhawk :D
    - Devil May Cry 4
    - Tekken 6
    - MotorStorm

And probably sequel to games like God of War, Wipeout, Destruction Derby, Syphon Filter, ...
The list is to damn big.

Anyway, i liked the Xbox360 too. Let's see if M$ show some great games for it

    Gamers will never be happy.
Funny how some of these same people will think nothing about dropping $500+ for a new graphic card for their PC's! :D

Microsoft has the right idea. If you launch 5 months earlier you can have a higher price on console to re-coup loses. Before sonys release you drop your price effecting sonys market even more.

Remember..Microsoft killed off apple by sticking to non propriatary systems in the 80's and the xbox is headed in the same type of direction. I know for me its a no brainer when it comes to coding I will take the xbox any day of the week for development and test.

Throw some of your money my way... Some of us consider $400 a lot of money.

I'll probably be buying an Xbox 360 at launch or close to it. I've never really cared for Nintendo, and the Playstation 3 is probably designed to die after a weeks usage.

    Two words
    Halo 3

That will hurt the PS3 big-time, if the Halo Fanboys still hold true to Bungie after what they pulled last year.

The PS3 has got equally important titles in many other genres that will have a similar sway effect.

Yeah, its hard to determine what system will "Fall" or not in this market. I think this triangle of systems will last a LOOOOOOOONG time.
