here is my prediction: Somehow I bet nintendo will emerge the victor. Core America is heading to more traditional values so games that push the envelope may not do as well with parents. Nintendo seems to know this and has built a reputation on it. Xbox will beat Playstation in the states but Playstation will do much better than xbox in asia. I am also basing this off that America is going through the HDTV change and Microsoft seems to tailering to it with the xbox 360. Although, If Sony ever gets developers to release a number of the japanese games in english outcome could be different but I don't suspect it. Anyways that my 2 cents
i think we should rename the thread : ''Xbox360 at the end of '05, too quick?'' and you two cents are pretty interesting, macwest, but i doubt that hdtv change will affect sony's sales.
I believe it will have an impact since most tvs are HDTV ready but that still means you need the box. Supposedly with the xbox 360 producing the HDTV output theres my box I need to go out and buy. I know for myself I have put off buying one due to cost but if the xbox 360 has it it gives me another reason why I want the xbox. I knwo for husbands who need an excuse to spend money on a game system theres a HDTV box does help with a reason. Know matter what in the end the competition will end up helping out us gamers with more diversity. Also, Hopefully... in the end the competition brings down the price. 300+ for a game system seems like alot
Most large non CRT screens seem to say HDTV Ready. At least that is what I see when I go to frys, costco or comp USA. Could be wrong, since my sampling is scewed by a small region, but that is what I have seen in my area over this last year.
I did well over 1200 hours on PSO on the GC alone. I know, I'm sick. My prediction? Nintendo take a bit bigger of a bite out of Sony in the US, and the same thing on a smaller scale in Asia. Xbox actually says a little better in Asia, but everyone will still laugh. They do the same in the US. HDTV alone isn't going to sell the Xbox. I seem to recall seeing Unreal 3 running in 720p in the Sony Press Conference. Current gen has also proven that just b/c Xbox (and 360) has all the same crappy shit found on Windows making it easy to code for will suck in developers. PS2 was arguably the most programmer unfriendly of the three machines, and it slaughtered all of them. Also mentioned before. The DC was a great piece of hardware, released long before the Playstation in all markets. Yet, Sony somehow seemed to be able to control public opinion by hyping up the PS2. Don't think they won't be stealing some of the Xbox's launch thunder.
That's not TV's in homes, though. Most people's TVs are not as new as the ones you see in the shops. Had Playstation not been so successful, developers would not have bothered with PS2. Look what happened to the Saturn.
Its taken me years to warm up to PS2 now I really like my new "slim" PS2 but there are some systems that I see before release and immediately fall in luv with as was the case with my beloved Dreamcast. when I first saw the Xbox360 and a few of the launch games it was dejavu all over again (and I dont mean that in a negative way) but that doesnt mean that other fellow gamers out there will take to the 360 wether they be hardcore or casual. I plan on getting a 360 but a slight headstart for it against the PS3 is far from a win win situation there are simply too many Playstation only gamers out there who will not be swayed very easily. I do think that this is the best strategy for Microsoft to put the Xbox side by side with the Playstation brand and capture anywhere from 40-50% of the videogame market ...well at least in the US and be more competitive in the foriegn markets IE Japan.
why not xbox 360 winning in america, ps3 in europe and revolution in japan? it seems to fit, for me anyway.Plus, in this speculation, the ps3 isn't the big winner, nor the second, or last, since ps3 could be second in both america and japan, while the xbox 360 last in japan and europe, but it is not told anyway, and i don't want to (with this essay, anyway).
i have the same feeling, i don't know why, since we don't know much about ''the revolution'' yet, but still do have that feeling.
I dont think It is too late I think that the 360 is too early I think from what I've seen the ps3's graphics are better and the ability to have seven players and output on two tvs will blow xbox 360 out of the water except for the controller I dont like it but if they hear everyone say how they dont like it hopefully they'll redesign it.
Are you a special person who doesnt understand that 7 people on two screens is total wank?! :smt043 WTF i can see all the bitching about it now.... "i want the big screen", "you got the advantage cos your screen is bigger" bla bla bla And tell me who in the hell has TWO tvs that have HDMI?! Its a totaly useless feature thats going to make the gfx look wank!
Personally I'll end up with all the systems, but I am most anticipating the 360 right now. At E3 2005 Microsoft had both games and a solid launch plan for the hardware and the online component. While I'm sure the Sony will have something to show off at E3 2006 its PS3 presentation this year was obviously rushed to the stage because it was feeling the pressure from Microsoft and the 360. 1) Sony didn't say anything concrete at its conference. Sure those of us sitting there got to see plenty of videos (and by the time the umpteenth one rolled around folks were audibly groaning "another one?") but the Unreal demo was the only real demo of what the hardware could do. 2) Sony didn't even have a proper logo for the PS3. The best its marketing group could do was spell out PlayStation 3 with the Spider-Man font. That's not a logo, that's an "oh shit, Microsoft is getting a lot of buzz we need to show something; quick everybody loves Spider-man, call up Sony Pictures and get that font!" -hl718
I've decided now I'm not going to buy either for a year or 2. I can't afforde to buy all 3 and with all my PC gaming and work I've missed a lot of the current generation, I'm just going to expand my xbox and gamecube collection when all the good titles hit rock bottom prices when the revolution/360 hits and see what I've ben missing out on the past 2 years.
Special person NO and if you have freinds who arent morons then they wont care about who has the bigger screen. Also the hdmi tvs yea i can see you point but they will probably have a converter so that you can just output on coaxil or a/v jacks.
Thats not possible without a fuckload of circuitry, as HDMI is an All digital connection, and composite video (which can be modulated to give RF) is analog. Anyways, the system will output composite video as in addition to HDMI it includes 1x standard PS AV Out. However, That'll most likely only support one display. Also, If you're buying a PS3, then splash out and get a TV which supports more than composite video! Particularly when it looks like the console will be costing ~$400 on launch!
well right now its very iffy, belive me after that e3 confrenece, plenty of people are waiting for the ps2, as for x-box 360, many here in the U.S. are intreasted in it soley for perfect dark zero, however they can end up the same fate as dreamcast which is coming out too early. Even then microsoft still hasntl finalized things up. But sony could eaisly lose the war due to price, such as why the psp is losing to the ds here in the U.S.(though people here badly want to get one, most just feel its too damn expenive to bother buying). Even then game prices for the handheld are turning people away. In fact nintnedo even said in an interview that they are preparing a special zelda for teh U.S. release of twilight princess that will cost $10 more, and its been shown by gamestop and ebworld that companies are planning to go back to the $60 and up price for games like the past to cover development costs.
