Hello. Here is my Slot Loading Drive in action specifically for the Sony PlayStation / PSone.

Here is a quick video of it in action without the mechanism

I dont see how "the hard part has been done"? Replacing a motor and then running the original assembly isnt the hard part IMO.

Upload the actual slot loading one, even if its "WIP" ...

    Solved.

Oh, it was quite hard replacing the motor. Laser mechanics are SO sensitive. I had to ensure there was basically zero wobble or flex, the distance was PERFECT and that the laser diodes power (POT) was adjusted perfectly. Took a while to fine tune. Above that, I had to take out of the spindle, a non-magnetic disc, and swap and glue in a magnetic one. I had to do it all so it was strong and it would not fall apart if sold to a buyer.

Quality is important in my case...

    Hence, HARD PART DONE ;-)

I will upload it ASAP, running.

Like I said, within a week

    Thanks!

I have not found swapping motors to be difficult nor calibrating - I have done it.

I dont think I could get the loading mech to work properly tho - hence my comment. I have repaired HUNDREDS of Wii consoles and the loading mechanism is a complete pain.

If you find the loading mech easy, we should team up and do half each lol

I'm not doubting he has done it or not - just concerned that the part he considers the hard part is what I would say is the easier part (combined with not having any WIP videos - worried it might not happen).

I just want to see some videos of it, its a cool mod if he can pull it off.

    lol. Thanks (I guess????)

It not just changing the motor. Like I said, I have to use a magnetic spindle. There is no motor, EXACTLY like the original PS / PSone motor + spindle.

I had to make it from scratch and adjust it so it was perfect.

It is really easy to cut a hole in the metal, place it on the magnetic hub (that holds the disc down) and adjust its height. Just takes time...

lol. You can make these yourself if you want. Its a nightmare.

I would rather put all my time (100%) into the FPGA PS SD card anyway.

Dont worry. It will work :p

Just subscribe on my YouTube and to this topic, so you know when I get it done.

Everybody finds something difficult. I struggled each time to do surface mount stuff (didn't really have the right setup) and motherboard always seemed to be a pain in the arse for cap replacing. No idea why.

Could be something to do with the drive you are stealing the loading mech from. But any I have had the misfortune of looking at have been a pain in the ass.

Also, do remember you have a track record of "talking the talk" but little actual results yet. (although, you have gotten much better recently compared to when you first joined).

    Looking forward to the videos!

    Edit:

Just to clarify, I'm not attempting to be an asshole about this. I know sometimes my posts can come across that way!

The drive is from a Mac. Same one RDC used for the 360 SLD. It is just a CD-ROM player, so it is a little more simple.

I have several SLD's, and there all a little more complicated.

I do have a track record of talking the talk, with no action. This is a really bad habit of mine :p

I have been working all day on it, no stop again.

Almost done. Just still adjusting the mech. as it is starting to become a pain now. If it is off by 2mm, it will scratch a disc. Pretty hard to perfect. Especially, when you can not see inside easily...

i think its a bad habit of most people mate myself included, so many ideas and so little time to do them lol

wasn't being negative in my previous post, just pointing out exactly what you said, different people find some stuff more difficult and vice versa

i saw the original slot loading one on the net a while back and thought it was a great little mod, unfortunately i feel its out of my "can be arsed" range due to some other projects i started up etc. and now i seem to have no time to do anything

keep us updated tho dude and did you have any luck with your PSX HDD?

Good work. Are you intending to hook it up directly to the PS1's PSU, or leave it on a separate one so you can put the disc in before booting?

Also, what are you thinking in regards to mounting it in the case - there's not a lot of space above the MC slots: what are your plans for installing it?

Haha, I like your display picture

Yes. I will wire it to the PlayStation mainboard or power supply.

I was thinking that it may fit. I have to see when it is all screwed together. If not, I will remove the memory card slots and move them to the back. I will have to check this.

I still need to also build the one shot timer for the ejecting and loading.

But it all is working. Just finishing it off :banghead:

OK I finished it all off today.

My fingers hurt so much, and I cut 3 of my fingers from some metal fabrication on the dremel :crying:

But, it all works and is secured in.

Just making the one shot timer now for the loading and ejecting of the CD-ROM.

I will then mod it into the case (case work) which is extremely easy and will only take an hour or so...

Oh, the drive is secured. So you can even play with the drive upside down.

    Update soon!
