PlayStation/PSone Slot Loading Drive

OK I am trying to get my Arduino to work with the motor. I got some progress, but it is not the best. It wont work 100%...

I do not really want to go out and learn how to program a PIC when I have to learn Verilog still.

Bad_Ad84, (or anyone that wants to) do you think you could make something for me in a PIC?

I need to load via the sensors and the eject button.
I need to unload via the eject button.

DC motor at 5 volts needs to be switched (2 way polarity) for the loading and unloading.

Unless someone had a link for me that I can relate too, this project is at a halt

 

I could probably knock something up for you, however my time is limited recently...

Work load + first baby due a week today.

holy crap that loading mech from the mac is a hell of a lot less complex than the ones I have used before.

I think I need to buy a H-Bridge IC and then use a Microcontroller to control it.

I will update once I finish it and get the electronics out of the way..

 

I'd rather not make a tutorial. Not worth it.

I will do a schematic for the motor driver though.

But apart from that, it is like RDC's Xbox 360 Slot Loading Drive. Though, his was easier because it already had a magnetic spindle and brushless motor in the metal drive. For the PlayStation, it's harder to do and takes a lot of time.

My next slot loader (eventually), will be for the Xbox 360 and PS2. Those should be quick.

 

Just open a Wii and see how exactly that works...

Update: Still waiting in the mail for the H-bridge IC...

 

its usualy takes a while to get free samples, sometimes 2 to 4 weeks.
But, they happely send you up to 5 ic as many times you want.
just keep it respectfull. besides, I feel like I want to do slotloading my psone asswell. hell, first the other projects. :thumbsup: ill keep an eye on this project.

OK I got the circuit built...

I wanted to make my own PCB, but I just cut paper clips for the 'traces'. lol. Took time to get them straight and bent how I wanted, but it worked in the end which was good.

 

Just waiting for another H-bridge IC as the one I got was faulty I think.

Was only giving 1.40 volts on the motor pins when I was giving it 5.00 volts from the Arduino.

I got the motor to spin however clockwise or anti-clockwise. So it works.

I then need to make it so the 4 IR reflection sensors pick up the CD-ROM and transmit the HIGH and LOW values back to the microcontroller (Arduino) to know the whereabouts of the disc in the slot loader. Also need to add an eject button.

 

You know that the output pins of the arduino do not provide much current?

 

I know. haha.

I tried it with a 2 amp 7 volt DC adaptor. Same issue.

I am certain my wiring is correct. I checked it 4 times. Just not 100% certain on the output and inputs I chose.

 

Update.

Got the H-Bridge to work. Just need to add the sensors to make it automated, and then install it into the PS1 case.

You also need to not waste an entire arduino and move it onto a chip only.

 

I was thinking that, but do I cant really be bothered to make a PCB, drill the holes and solder it all up. I mean, I will just put the arduino in there and solder the wire to it. That should do fine. I just want to get it out of the way.
