I went ahead and bought it for $60. First new release I've bought that's not a Cave game in probably 18 months. Should be here next week. Short story is kind of key for me. I can't spend more than a few hours a week on games at this point.

I was hoping the same thing. On the plus side, Valve says they are going to release free dlc, but it almost feels like we paid for it in advance by paying full price on the game to begin with.

Yes! What the hell ever happened to that game... would be nice to see signs of life from that title.

Played through the single player, will play co-op possibly next week.

I think the issue regarding people with the difficulty of the game is that Portal 2 *is* more Portal, and as such you know what can spot the patterns quite easily. I liked all the extra tools at your disposal too. To be honest, the single player campaign is not really about the puzzles but about the story.

However, if you don't play co-op I feel you may feel hard done by in terms of cost (a point ASSEMbler seems to have raised by saying the single player campaign is only worth $20, and has no interest in the co-op - I wonder whether Valve should have split the game in two on Steam).

Regarding it's shortness, I feel that if you rushed to complete it you'd feel disappointed, but I personally spent time investigating - looking at the posters, finding the secret dens, listening to the characters - and felt it was exactly the length it should be, any longer and it would have become dull and grating. I feel overall that it is about 3 times longer than Portal, and judging by the cost of Still Alive on XBLA, is a sensible price comparatively.

Overall, it took me 9 hours to complete the single-player campaign but I thoroughly enjoyed it and thought it was worth about half the cost of the game. Here's hoping the co-op is worth the other half... :-D

The story in portal 2 is damn good very enjoyed it amazing ending, My only complaint in the story was if youve played Portal 1 and understand the concepts that you learned in previously you can blow through 3/4ths of the game very quickly, at the end is where in my oppinion it actually starts to become difficult though I do believe some of the advanced levels in Portal 1 gave more trouble

Coop tho is a whole different story its just downright hard especially playing with somebody who has a hardtime figuring stuff out without a guidebook in his lap(my cousin). I havent beaten coop yet because of its difficulty it really takes alot of coordination very fun and difficult if played with the right person.

Its hard for me to recommend picking it up for 60$ after picking up Dragon Age:eek:rigins ultimate for 40$ which has given me so far 50 hours and im only working my way into Awakening. I geuss thats a hard comparison tho like comparing Apples to Oranges.

    Good game either way.

I heard from a good source that something related to HL2 is going to be shown at E3

Unless they absorbed the Black Mesa Source team which I doubt it has to be EP3, or even better: Half Life 3!:-0

Is a game's value all about how long it is?

    A single-colored poster that says, "HL2 Episode 3".

I liked the first one, seemed like a nice little bonus with The Orange Box. I'm surprised they released the second one as a stand-alone game at that price.

Well, that's unfortunate. Not the $30 part, the "to most people it is" part. To me a game's worth is more about how fun and enjoyable it is. That is, well, kind of the whole point of a game.

You could make a game where you have to press a button to punch a guy in the head, and you could make it so you've only beaten the game when you punch him 8 billion times. That would be a really long game, but rather pointless. You get the idea.

I'm also hopeful about a possible new HL, but I wasn't particularly impressed by episodes 1 or 2. What would be really great is if they just ditched the "episode" format and announced Half Life 3.

Agreed, I hated games that made you walk all the way back at the end of the stage, and now with sandbox its only an excuse to keep you making stupid errands to fill the void between the 5 or 6 main missions.

So, after much delay (school, and then the power going out) I finally finished Portal 2 the other day. My verdict? Not as good as Portal. Very close, but not quite. In some ways it's better: better graphics, deeper story, longer, etc.

As far as the length and difficulty level, I had no problem with that. I thought it was a good length for what it was, and I didn't think it was too difficult or too easy. It maybe would have been nice if there were a few really hard levels, but as someone already said, it's really more about the story.

What it failed to do, in my mind, was to match the originality and wit of the original. That's expecting a lot, really - part of why the original had the effect it did, I think, was because there had never been a game quite like it before.

So, to make a sequel to it is inherently problematic because, on the one hand, you have to stay true to the original, and on the other hand you have to try to match its originality. It's almost impossible. I also thought it wasn't quite as funny as the first one, maybe because it seemed like it was trying to appeal to a broader audience.

Having said all that, I still think it's a really good game. It has a really great story, it's fun, and the graphics are amazing, especially for a Source game (granted that you're playing the PC version). The ending song will probably be stuck in my head for years to come.

I like it more than probably any other new game I've played in the past year or two. I will probably play through the single player mode multiple times, and I've yet to even sample the co-op mode, so there's still that. I'm only slightly disappointed because in my mind it failed to equal to the masterpiece of the first game.

The game felt easier, as while in the first game you could put portals everywhere and find multiple solutions, in this one all I needed to do was find the portal-safe areas, and see how the given elements of the stage could fit together as a solution.

Took a lot of guesswork and failure potential out of the game, and made it feel a bit easier.

However, the voice acting is absolutely phenomenal again, and the writing staff they have there is quite fantastic in my opinion. That more than made up for the feeling of ease as I blitzed through the game (though it was much longer than the first one). Cave Johnson was a brilliant character.

Overall, for a quick rating I would say around 8.5/10, with the writing and voice acting holding up the majority of the weight.

    I paid $90 for it at EBGames(GameStop I think it's called in US) ... I wanted the Rubik's cube :p

I got the story done in around 9 hours. So at $10.00 an hour I found the game well worth it. Portal 2 is probably the only game out today that I enjoy playing and gives me a laugh now and then. While the game is short, I enjoyed every moment of it.

Actually come to think of it, Portal 2 is the only game I can say I've finished... from start to end in the past few years. Pretty much all the other games I've bought, I've stopped play due to boring stories, repetitive tasks or nothing new.

I believe it surpassed the first Portal in leaps an bounds. 1) Funnier 2) A lot better world design 3) Kept the same controls 4) Added new puzzles!

Oh and Exile Vilify is a good song.

    Cave Johnson!!

Not always, but after years of buying game after game I get tired of spending 60$ on launch to beat it 4-5 hours later thats always disappointing.
