My WD HD Player arrived today... very useful little machine. It's basically a small computer that has to be connected with any portable data storage device (portable HDD, usb stick ect.) via USB2.0. It plays all the media on it (pictures, music, video) via HDMI in up to 1080p.

Very nice thing to own, next to it is my 500g HDD that contains about 350gb of video/picture/music data.

Some DVDs I got off ebay for insane 17$ shipped (12,50 Euro). The second DVD from the right is the very nice German SE of Miyazaki's "Spirited Away", this one is even new and unopened :033:

Wow, the WD HD player looks damn sexy, I had no idea of its existence though. It seems to be pretty useful indeed, kind of a media center PC but without taking up all the space of an actual PC.
Are the interfaces only HDMI for video/audio and USB 2.0 for data or does it have other interfaces? (Like firewire or eSata, etc)

It can be hooked up also via cinch/scart, but if you have a high resolution TV this is apparently pointless. USB 2.0 is required though, there's no firewire or eSata port. The box is rather small and has 2x USB 2.0 (in case you'd want to connect it with a PC), 1x HDMI, 1x Cinch and an AC plug.

For my needs it's just perfect. Actually there are TVs that have this kind of service already built-in including the control interface, this feature wasn't very common when I bought my TV so I take the extra route :)

Retro Core looks pretty good on that display. Does that cool little box you bought improve picture quality at all?

No it doesn't, but most of the stuff I have looks very fine despite not being in actual HD. RCII is in 640x480 as you know so it looks indeed really good! Earlier episodes that you did in 352x242 are a little noisy but still OK. I watch them from ~2m distance and it still looks a hell lot better than if I just stared on my PC screen like I used to for years.

Sounds good. how much was the box? At the moment I watch all downloaded British TV on a USB Stick via my Pioneer DVD player. The image quality on my HD CRT is nice but it's not true HD since it's via the DVD player. Somthing like that box you bought would be fantastic once I've connected an external HD to it via USB.

Set me back about a 100 Euro w/HDMI cable, the box was 95eur. As I can see it's 78gbp over at amazon UK.
If you downloaded the episodes in HD it sure would be great. A pal has the same box and we watched Akira in 720p. Absolutely stunning. In fact, I wish I had some more HD movies just to see what this little thing really can. So far I used to watch some LOST episodes just like you on a stick via the DVD player but this didn't come close to LOST in 720p which I tried out just today.

78pounds on Amazon UK is a nice price. It will probably be about 100 after shipping. I'll see if they have anything like that here in Japan for for that price I doubt it :(

I found that xbox's arn't that cheap in Japan anymore. I can get an xbox here for about £130, but in Japan, it would cost me like £150 .

    Nice.

I've got FF Special, not KOF 94 yet tho. I'm going for the full KOF set when money permits.

It's a bitch coming into the scene late as the prices on some of the newer releases have sky rocketed.

It's the only console I own now and I love it, even though it has made me broke.

AND, for my purchase last week, the Dreameye failed to come with the battery compartment or the Visual Park disc. So I have been able to return it..

Even if you just get 2 working controllers, it has already paid for itself lol
