Before or should anyone comment - this is the only unofficial pairing I actually like. Though, Claire's VA Alyson supports it so that's good enough for me! It's really hard to find anything of this particular pairing though. Simple taskbars to the right that I customized ages ago. Felt like a change from my bright Persona 3 Portable desktop and I'm not finished with making my next Clock Tower or DEMENTO/Haunting Ground ones as of yet. So, this will do. The wallpaper does actually cover the whole desktop, just off to the left it fades out to black whilst on the right it has the rest of the submarine hallway! And I keep forgetting to do stuff this week, so I had to put my notes back onto my desktop. :| That said, unless it's one of my Mass Effect desktops... I can't stand having more shit on it than what I already have with Rainmeter and RocketDock (currently hidden).
Hasn't caused any slowdown issues for me. Only issue I've had of late has been that bug with Flash and Firefox causing crashes as I'm still occasionally getting the Flash bug in Chrome where everything plays too quickly.
Haha, well. That makes sense now. My current laptop isn't exactly current or anything but it chugs along without any issues with Rainmeter on. I really only use the calender and notes option.
To bump this thread,I've changed my BG again.I was bored of having the Darth Vader wallpaper so I changed it with something more nice and funny. Here it is: View attachment 10219 I miss the days when I had a 17" CRT.At least that one wasn't as big as this monster of a 22" LCD.
And a bump here as I've finally made another one and changed my wallpaper... Somewhat after a couple of months. Stopped being lazy and just uploaded to the site server. I quite like my new wallpaper!
Sweet. Did you get 10.10 through the developer program? I signed up for the beta, but apparently I wasn't selected. I guess I'll just have to wait for the final release. I'm really looking forward to it. What do you think of it so far? Also, I was wondering: what do existing apps look like in Yosemite? Like, do they look like they were originally designed to look, or does the system automatically change the look of certain elements?
Yeah got it through my Dev account. I like it, got pretty used to it, beta bugs and all, 10.9 looks dated already. Only a few of the core apps are using the new design, Messages and Safari for example use the new *cough* Vista *cough* transparency effect as does finder. Other apps such as iTunes and Maps still have their legacy appearance, there doesn't seem to be an automatic effect applied to older stuff but I guess in time it'll come. Best thing about it is the ability to send and receive text messages to any device type, iMessage or not. It routes it all through the iMessage server.
That was another thing I was wondering about: what method does Yosemite use to send and receive texts and phone calls? Does it connect to an iPhone directly, in the same way that AirDrop and AirPlay work, or does it connect via your home network, or via the internet, etc? I ask because I have an external USB Wifi adapter for my desktop, and AirDrop doesn't work properly on it; so I'm wondering if the phone/text functions will work with my machine or not. If not, I may end up getting a new network card.
I think messages are done via the internet. Phone calls are only via proximity of your phone I think on the same network but it requires carrier support (however I have had a few calls show up on my Mac but I think that's just Apple letting anything through for testing support). As for Air Drop. I couldn't tell you, it's only supported on i series Mac's after a certain date as they have better bluetooth hardware. My machine is only a C2D. Apparently even adding a Mac compatible bluetooth dongle with the supported protocols still doesn't get round it. Yet another win for Apple in the forced upgrade department. As much as I love my Apple gear I do get pretty pissed off sometimes. My C2D MacBook doesn't support Airplay mirroring to an Apple TV (but I can stream videos etc) even though I know for a fact it can handle it via a third party such as AirServer or AirParrot.
I really love my MBP. It's one of the coolest computers I've ever owned. It's a beautiful machine, pretty fast, and the retina display is a vast improvement over normal computer screens. The wifi is really good too - I get better reception on my MBP than on any other machine I've tried. It has 802.11ac, although my router doesn't support ac. My MBP does support AirPlay Mirroring, and it's pretty awesome. The only downsides are that it sometimes has difficulty outputting audio and video at the same time, and it's limited to 30fps. My Apple TV is an older model, so it's also limited to 720p, which is the highest resolution that model will output. It's still really cool though, and very convenient. Back to Yosemite, there was another thing I was wondering about: what is Quicktime Player like in 10.10? Also, is it still possible to install QT Player 7?
QT has been upgraded to a new version but to be honest I don't use it much so couldn't tell you if it was any better or worse. Just installed QT7 and it works fine.
That's good to know. I'd assume there will be differences between the version you have and the final release, right? You said that not all of the built-in apps have been updated to the new style - I'd expect that they will be in the final release, right? Also, because I know not all of the older apps I use on a regular basis will be updated in a timely fashion, I was thinking I might make my own updated icons for those apps. Then if they turn out well, I might see if the original authors are interested in using them.
Yeah the build numbers are only up to Beta 3. They usually release about 9-10 betas before the final, I'll expect there'll be more first party app changes by then.
