Price Check: Halo 2 Multiplayer Beta with all documents.

Hey everyone, firstly let me say i have permision for this thread as under the new rules you have to make sure you can do a price check, thanks to Yakumo for the permision.

Now if i do decide to sell this item, i shall post a for sale thread once ive cleared its value. So i'd appreciate pricing so i can get it sold if thats what i decide to do.

Ive never seen another one of these for sale, so don't really know its value.

Ok so if anyone who gives me an estimate, could please give it in GBP or USD i'd appreciate it.

With that out of the way, the disk i have states Microsoft Confidential on the top, its a silver top style disk as you'll see in the photos. It comes complete with all its original documents, never read through them, or for that matter done anything with the disk.

Yeah i'd deffinatly be interested in that if you think it suits this best.

Could i ask though, if i did the auction format, would i HAVE to sell to the highest bidder, or if it didn't make what i needed for it, could i keep it and say sorry its not got enough interest?

Thats why i thought this way was best, because people can give me an idea to its value, and if it seems right i was going to make a fixed price for sale thread and let it go, obviously if it didn't gather enough interest i'd keep it and not sell it.

It was less aimed at you for creating the thread and more that the rule is that all price checks should go in the specific price check thread, not its own seperate thread.

I mean, it doesn't bother me much either way, I just found it funny that Dot50Cal didn't throw it into the price check thread.

I don't see why a beta that can't be played anymore should get its own thread, Halo 2 or not.

 

He got special permission from another moderator since its a rare item. Exceptions are made, you need but ask and have a valid reason.

Anyway, im not very familiar with the specifics but if you want permission for an auction you have to ask Assembler himself to OK it.

Can you still log in and play the game or is it more for looks. I have a friend who has one and his you have to log in so otherwise than a fancy intro screen that is it?

 

I have no idea mate, ive been honest and said ive never ran the disk at all, however a friend of mine did tell me its possible with this disk to use it and if you know what you are doing you can use LAN, but ive got to be honest, ive not a clue. Sadly i know nothing about programming etc and don't know how to do anything, if anyone has instructions as to things i can try, i'd be happy to do so.

Oh also, someone else told me, actually the source of the disk, some versions of Halo 2 MP builds were trialed with different stuff in them to the retail version, not sure whats on this disk, but maybe maps and other stuff can be extracted if its any different and used on retial halo 2?

Thank you your best bet on selling it would be an auction. You may want to put it on ebay and post a link in the ebay section. I know a number of us on this board would realy like to have it and an auction would make it the fairest.

 

Hasnt ebay been removing prototype software pretty regularly though? Something this well known is sure to get removed before the first hour is even up.

Best to probably go with an auction here, but like I said you'll need Assembler to give the ok on that, mods cant give the ok.

 

I'd say go with eBay. You have nothing to lose, and you're giving yourself a far wider target audience! Plus, you can set a reserve as you requested.

I think i'll get in touch with Assembler and see if i can have a chat with him about a possible auction here, i'm not too sure how they go, but if i can confirm with him then that would be great.

If anyone has an idea to the value of the disk and documents i'd be really happy to hear it.

Yeah, the reason noone has given you a price is because this hasn't come up before. If we haven't seen an item before, how are we supposed to give you a value? Just pluck a figure from our head? If we did that, the thread would be full of speculation. I'll say £20... £20? are you mad? More like £80. £80? That's way too much, I'd pay £50..... etc. Hence we suggested auctioning it.

Personally I think you're way better going with eBay, rather than a small community of people interested in dev hardware. That way you get anyone from here interested, PLUS other forums if you so wish, PLUS anyone who frequents eBay for nice Xbox stuff. You'll get much more that way.

The alternative is that you list it here. Some other board gets wind of it. The forum gets flooded with noobs only interested in your item. There's no way for us to say all those people are genuine, whereas eBay has a feedback system and various protection.

 

Ok mate, thanks very much for the comments, i'll keep note of those, i think you could be right, eBay could possibly be a good option, i think i might look into that.

I'd just be a little worried of eBay removing it and possibly MS kicking off because its been on eBay, i don't know, i might give that a try. Would be nice though if i could sell it onto people here who would really appreciate it for what it is, and not just someone with cash get hold of it.

If eBay remove it, that's exactly what happens - they send you an e-mail saying the copyright holder requested it removed. AFAIK that's all that will happen, and you can sell it elsewhere.

Oh, the one thing I didn't say - if you're gonna sell, change your profile so we know which country you're in ;-) I'm assuming UK?

How does the game play, anyway? Is it very different from release?

 

retro is right. Ebay is your best bet. I would bet a number of us want it but are being careful with the rules on if you are asking a value. If you put it as a 1-3 day auction and accept paypal you should be fine. The most ebay will do is take it off and send a warning.
