Like I said, it isn't really a UI, they are just placeholder images, since because it looks so early, they may not have created a UI yet. As for the menu picture, same applies, just a placeholder.

I think that, for the moment, it is hard to know who is right or wrong. Lets wait for Stipo news.

I sold Stipo360 this kit he has the build on. I obtained it last year from the guy who posted about the build on se7ensins. At the time I was using the name KILLERHEDAKE. I too have the build because I archived it before I sold it off to stipo. The dev I got it from was not certain if it was an officially sanctioned port of World of War craft/Diablo or something of a rogue home brew.

Why not look into some dates, what the XEX says, and all sorts of other stuff? I would never label something as a WoW port without actually doing the research. The assets themselves make little difference. Unknown Blizzard Title that uses some WoW Assets, sure.

For those curious, this build IS the one where you spawn and fall under the map, but as xboxsurgeon knows first hand, i worked some magic in the .ini file and made it boot this level, it is called "colltest.lvl" the one in the pictures is called "bridgetest.lvl"

    @borman

the xex is encrypted, and when ran through assembly IDA it gives strings called "world of warcraft" and "wolle engine" and "asset debug wolle" etc.

Me and surgeon are just as curious as all of you, go easy on us haha

This is true. He has been working on it farther than I ever did. But the WoW thought may have been spawned by myself due to the last owner telling me he was told this by the original kit's owner.

Dont get me wrong, it's possible, but having personal first hand experience, it can take a lot of effort to correct things once the ball gets rolling. Look at the Final Fantasy SGI demo, people STILL think it is related to Final Fantasy on the 64 :p

I guess my question would be, if this was a console port of either WoW or Diablo III, why would you use such basic assets and create such messy test environments when both games were already well established at the time? This seems more like something from when a game was first being developed, no character models, no animations, no environmental objects, limited functions, a truly bare bones alpha as opposed to a build of something that was being ported to console. I would have expected to see some more detailed assets and more functional test environments from a game that was already in post production, this looks like something being built from the ground up.

My guess is it is a prototype to a game that was going to PLAY like WoW but wanst going to be it, however for the quickness of things they just ripped the wow textures and made the hud for a placeholder while in alpha.

I would hesitate to even call it an "alpha." Typically an alpha is mostly playable straight through, or at least an outline of something. Guessing is sort of pointless for the time being, it could have been an engine test for just about anything. Get a date, that would be a start. I know it would be nice to have any confirmation that it came from Blizzard even. Weird assets aren't unusual, I recall an n64 prototype (Toon Panic?) that used portraits from Final Fantasy VIII.

On a side note, the word Wolle is German for Wool, don't know if it helps unravel the mystery or not.

Toon Panic? Wow you're right. Who developed this game? That's one of the strangest uses of placeholders I've ever seen.

A company named Bottom Up. Obviously not Square. So yeah, strange things happen. Some game recently shipped with a bunch of MP3s that shouldnt have been in there but were (the new Castlevania? My brain isnt cooperating right now). Im talking commercial songs and such. Im just being cautious and trying to give advice on how to approach things here.

Ill get build dates of both builds asap gentlemen. (Currently have no power in my home) thunder storm broke a pole down outside, whole street is out of power haha

i know from memory the playable walk around one is 2009 and the engine tech demo is 2010 :) hope that helps

@borman, caution for me AND surgeon are main priorty, we dont want blizzard nocking on our doors with lawyers telling us to pay up or pay the time of jail if these builds ARE legit so..... Haha, i even quickly asked surgeon if it was even safe to show pictures of this build first before making this thread

Interesting, the date is a year to two after D3 reveal, so it could be that they have planned a console port already when they began the PC development.

It sounds like an test build to show their progress porting a game to the console.

That's what I was thinking, it's so basic it's just a tech-demo of some kind - that's what my first thought was.
