From what I can gather the cable is a 10 pin awm 20264 ribbon cable. Does anybody know a cheap place to buy them? An ebay search wants $12 for such a cable when $3 gets me a 12 pin. Cutting two should work?

No idea. Sorry. The pin pitch can vary despite the AWM?

Yeah, that basically just gives you a maximum temperature and voltage - it doesn't tell you how many conductors it has, what pitch it is, what the cable thickness is or anything else like that.

Digi-Key, Mouser? I can always check my PS1 stash to see if anything has a crapped out laser and cannibalize the ribbon.

I'm assuming the ribbon size is the same since the ports have to be the same but the length is obviously different. The ifixit picture I saw had a shorter ribbon than I have in my PS1.

The ribbon length differs from model to model to some extent if memory serves. The 900x has a smaller mobo than the rest and the ribbon is longer IIRC.

Could be wrong. I know the ribbon for the optics is different for a few models.

There are 3 different controller ribbons - one for PU-7 and PU-8, another for PU-18 and PU-20 (slightly shorter) and the last one for PU-22 and PU-23 (signficantly longer).
