    Hello Silverdo.

    FR : si j'ai bien compris, vous avez des jeux qui fonctionnent bien ou assez mal avec POPStarter "rev12". Cela est possible. Suivant vos remarques, vous pouvez les faire sur la liste officielle pour cette version du HomeBrews ou les précédentes. Si vous voulez entrer des données dans cette liste, il vous faut impérativement être inscrit chez "Google mail" ou un de ses partenaires. Sinon, vous ne pourrez pas vous servir de la liste.

    Voici le lien pour visionner la liste et celui pour le formulaire de saisie des données (la liste est protégée en écriture pour éviter tout incident fâcheux) :

    liste officielle ===> "https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0As_WFUFvrRw5dE5fWEU1TTlscW9XMUtuTE12aU04d3c&pli=1#gid=0"

    Formulaire ===> "https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1r8skuZJCSINAbJHMy3fsPAqmRmO8FW0CJo0ReUFq-1E/viewform"

    Certains renseignements de cette liste passeront directement dans la liste officielle pour la "rev13", il faudra seulement que les colonnes soient correctement renseignées. J'administre la liste, je recopie les informations dans la liste depuis le formulaire de saisie.

    Re: Medal of Honer [NTSC]

    Yep, I had done everything twice to double check what if I missed something to get it to load through the browser in my PS2.
    Then I gave up for loading it, then I loaded the Medal of Honor.bin into HxD Hex Editor. I then Loaded Medal of Honer-Underground.bin also
    to compare the beginning of the file's contents. I noticed since they both are made by same, and closely related that it will probably load
    Underground if i copied Medal of Honor.bin "Address 0-24D7" in HxD, and past write it to Medal of Honor-Underground.bin at its beginning.
    Save Medal of Honor-Underground.bin in HxD. Then continue to drag Medal of Honor-Underground.CUE over to Cue2Pops2.exe. This time
    Underground loaded from Browser. I was impressed that it worked. Cool, hope there are some other games which work but have their
    failure relatives, that I could get them to work as well someday.

    p.s. Please could in Popstarter Rev13, enable to start from memory card, I could settle for USB only though, but if I could get it to do
    it with memory card, memory cards for ps2 are usually better methods. I believe it is the only method for HDLGameInstaller for now, at
    my model: 50001 NTSC Console. Since ps2 memory cards are usually always stuck to the consoles, and only used at consoles.
    The 8MB limitatation is sorry though. Does someone know of a 128MB 3rd party manufacturer that doesn't occasionally not get detected?

    Hi friend, for what I know all unofficial memory cards bigger than 8mb has issues. I have a sony official one, another from madcatz 8mb (no problems) and a last one from china with 16mb and has a lot of problems and it's only 2x the capacity. So it seems more fault of the memory card capacity than the manufacturer, perhaps the PS2 is prepared to the 8mb size. Besides, be careful... many manufacturers sell 64mb as 128.

    For the MOH problem, try this (sometimes saved the day for me): looking the release date of the game at gamefaqs we can see 3 releases with their respective region codes: SLUS-01270 for America, SLES-03124 for Europe and the Platinum release with the same code as PAL, but with a year of difference.
    Look what you have and try another one of these. I remember testing platinum games in Ps2psxe and gettin BSOD, but get working the original release and viceversa. The same with regions.
    The last one I had similar problem was Kenka Banchou (PS2). The normal release run perfect from usb but the PS2 Classics version must be shrinked in order to play.

    Hello "Silverdo". Hello "emuler"

    FR : Je lance mes jeux sous "POPStarter" aussi bien installés sur HDD que sur USB depuis ma clé USB (ou mon HD externe sur USB). Tout se lance très bien et très rapidement. Bien plus vite que depuis une carte mémoire. Mon choix est sans appel, c'est bien plus pratique que sur une CM même si celle-ci fait 64Mo (j'en ai deux et elles fonctionnent admirablement bien).

    EN : I launch my games under “POPStarter” as well installed on HDD as on USB since my USB key (or my external HD on USB). All launches out very well and very quickly. Much more quickly than since a memory card. My choice is without call, it is much more practical than on a CM even if this one made 64Mo (I have of them two and they function admirably well).

    re: Popstarter rev12

    Hi,

    You already got Popstarter rev 12 loading from USB? Wow, if it is true. How did you get
    them from working from usb?

    If you make note of the files mentioned to load a game with popstarter rev 12. All you need
    to do is copy and past contents to your liking in a folder i.e. "C:\Work\Game Name" and the
    file and thier mentioned contents, below.

    I load mine from internal HDD with Popstarter rev12, I downloaded this package searching
    google and found a tutorial from Pakistan, which has:

    list.ico,
    system.cnf,
    boot.elf,
    Cek_Partisi.bat
    hdl_dump.exe
    icon.sys
    Install.bat

    Cek Partisi.bat contents is:
    hdl_dump.exe toc 192.168.1.10
    pause

    Install.bat Contents is:
    hdl_dump.exe modify_header 192.168.1.10 PP.ALONEINDNN
    pause

    in system.cnf content is:
    BOOT2 = pfs://PP.ALONEINDNN.ELF <-- popstarter "LAUNCH.EXE" Normal with debug RENAMED TO GAME NAME
    VER = 1.01
    VMODE = NTSC

    Icon.sys:

    PS2X
    title0 = AloneInDark NewNMare
    title1 = Horror-Adventure
    bgcola = 128
    bgcol0 = 20,20,60
    bgcol1 = 20,20,60
    bgcol2 = 20,20,60
    bgcol3 = 20,20,60
    lightdir0 = 0.5000,0.5000,0.5000
    lightdir1 = 0.0000,-0.4000,-0.1000
    lightdir2 = -0.5000,-0.5000,0.5000
    lightcolamb = 24,24,24
    lightcol0 = 48,48,43
    lightcol1 = 26,33,50
    lightcol2 = 14,14,38
    uninstallmes0 =
    uninstallmes1 =
    uninstallmes2 =

    list.ico:

    just use BMP2ICO.exe <-- this program works with 3 options 3D Triangle, 3D Box, or flat Icon.
    bmp has to be 128 pixels X 128 pixels, usually use Windows Paint program, and use 3D Triangle
    in BMP2ICO, save ico as "list.ico" in "C:\WORK\PP.GAME" direcotory.

    boot.elf: You just have to create this file one time from LAUNCH.ELF, either the no_debug
    or normal version. Another words for continue to add games to your PS2 after this one time,
    copy the embedded BOOT.ELF(OSDMAIN.ELF is result after you run FMCB install to memory card, it is
    then called EMBEDDED BOOT.ELF) to the new game Folders "C:\WORK\PP.Game" rename BOOT.ELF
    to PP.GameName.ELF, then move it to Your Internal HDD, partition after you ran the Install.Bat
    script.

    You need FMCB v1.8 i believe, and it will work. To create this file you have to have a flash drive.
    Inside flash drive copy FMCB 1.8 to it, and next, copy LAUNCH.ELF from
    popstarter rev12 to "INSTALL\INJECT" folder inside FMCB 1.8, but you must rename it to EMBED.ELF.
    Also, you must have dvelf_dumper.elf, this will dump a file name DVDELF.BIN, and place this file
    inside "INSTALL\INJECT" folder. Now you could run install FMCB v1.8 to a 8mb official memory
    card or other size, but i usually use 8mb official. It will create a file inside your memory card
    named "OSDMAIN.ELF". after finding "osdmain.elf" inside memory card inside /BAEXEC-SYSTEM/
    move the file to your flash drive. Then place flash drive inside PC and move it to "C:\WORK\Game Name"
    and rename it to BOOT.ELF. Even though in system.cnf it says: BOOT2 = pfs:/PP.GAMENAME.ELF which
    is LAUNCH.ELF from popstarter. I have been keeping the name convention with BOOT.ELF, because
    the Install.bat file has hdl_dump.exe modify_header, expects BOOT.ELF to be inside "C:\WORK\PP.GAMENAME"
    directory.

    I usually use the NORMAL version of Popstarter LAUNCH.ELF so i could read the debug info
    print on my Television, after I select game from Browser 2.00 in my PS2.

    Cek_partisi.bat: this batch file lets you do a "DIR" execute to your PS2 hard drive, usually do this
    to verify that you created your PP.GameName folder inside your PS2, before you
    do any of the above, you have to create the game folder with a "PP." prefix.

    LaunchELF v4.42_ev: you need this version, found in Pops-00001, you don't need to do any of
    thing with POPS-00001, just copy the LaunchELF.elf inside folder "\needed for making
    "PP." partitions inside you PS2, copy it to your "__sysconf\ELF APPS" folder inside
    your Internal HDD in you PS2. Run it, because this version omits the +PP prefix
    which doesn't work with Browser 2.00. Create your Partition first Before running
    any of above mentioned BATCH files scripts.

    hdl_svr_093.elf: You will need this file to connect and transfer files to your PS2 with the batch
    files mentioned above. This file comes with "HDL_DumX_092"
    I created a folder inside my Internal HDD "__sysconf/ELF APPS" and placed it
    inside there.

    Ok, I know this is not a tutorial, but this is the order, which I only understand to put them on
    my ps2, I use POPS-00001 methods found in its tutorials to put Applications, ie. SMS.elf, ESR.elf, OPL.elf
    to put them on browser. The only method mainly is the pc app HxD, and a little advice in
    the tutorials in POPS-00001. But overall, I seen the big picture from the google search which resulted
    in a Pakistani tutorial, he had several other tutorials, like creating icons, removing programs from browser,
    adding apps i.e. SMS.ELF to browser. He explained it, but I had to copy and paste his tutorial URL to
    Google URL translator. I just don't understand loading from USB or memory card. By the way, I don't
    think HDLGameInstaller is not a finished program, I could not get the "FTP an ISO" to my PS2 to work, so
    maybe my PS2 ISO which my games DVD's have scratches on already, will have to be run from OPL or
    HDL until someone else finishes his Open Source, hopefully they remove the display bugs among any
    of them.

    re: popstarter rev12

    Maybe he means, he launches the LAUNCH.ELF from popstarter except the LAUNCH.ELF is not
    embedded, and he just launches it from uLaunchELF PS2 File Browser? If he launches them
    from HDDOSD Browser 2.00, and the IMAGE0.VCD is stored somewhere in USB, I surely would
    like to know how to do that also myself. Hopefully he can clarify his method.

    Hey, I tried to create a new thread regarding this, but I think it failed to create properly. :(

    I wanted to let you guys know a simple method of using multi-disc PS1 games as a single file. I tested it only with the unreleased BETA of Baldur's Gate, and tested it only as far as launch and creating a new game (I hate RPGs and am going to use my fiancee to test my creation when I can). I used Salamander ( http://www.altap.cz/salamander/downloads/ ) to create a single BIN file of the 3 CDs. Open Salamander and highlight the game images in question (hold down CTRL to select multiple images simultaneously). Go to plugins->split and combine->combine. Output as a *.BIN file. Create a CUE sheet for CUE2POPS (I just edited a copy of the one for the first image to point to "combined.bin," as I named the output file). Drag and drop per usual. Test via ePSXe with DVD5 support to ensure it'll even boot. If all goes according to plan, it will, and you can transfer it over and try it out on the PS2.

    Am I sure that this method will work with any game? No. Am I sure that it won't just lock up when it needs to go beyond disc 1? No. Buuut... I'd love testers to try it out and see what results can come of this!

    Hi karenjan99, silverdo, ilikelinux.

    FR : je ne propose pas de méthode pour faire l'installation de la "rev12" de POPStarter mais je peux vous certifier que la "rev13" peut lire les jeux sur un support connecté en USB (Clé ou Disque Dur). Si vous ne lisez pas le Français, sachez que son développeur "krHACKen" a donné beaucoup d'informations sur le site Français "metagames-eu.com". Je vous donne deux liens que vous pourrez lire en les faisant traduire par Google-trad ou autre traducteur en ligne.

    Les voici : "http://www.metagames-eu.com/forums/les-tutoriels-playstation-2/tuto-popstarter-rev-12-emulateur-ps1-sur-ps2-hdd-2-133098.html#post1765407" .... et l'autre : "http://www.metagames-eu.com/forums/les-tutoriels-playstation-2/tuto-popstarter-rev-12-emulateur-ps1-sur-ps2-hdd-133098.html#post1765412".

    Je vous recommande de bien les lire , ils contiennent de très nombreuses informations sur le projet et son avancement. Si vous remontez un peu dans les Topic, vous verrez quelques réponses que j'ai donné.

    Encore un peu de patience, attendez et votre patience sera récompensée. "POPStarter rev13" est bien plus performant qu'avant. Vous vous en rendrez compte dès sa sortie. Préparez vos fichiers "VCD" en éliminant le "Vmode" (pour les jeux en PAL), c'est un conseil.

    EN : I do not propose method to make the installation of the “rev12†of POPStarter but I can certify to you that the “rev13†can read the games on a support connected in USB (Key or Hard drive). If you do not read the French, will know that its developer “krHACKen†gave much information on the French site “metagames-eu.comâ€. I give you two links which you will be able to read by translating them by Google-trad or another translator on line.

    Here : "http://www.metagames-eu.com/forums/les-tutoriels-playstation-2/tuto-popstarter-rev-12-emulateur-ps1-sur-ps2-hdd-2-133098.html#post1765407" .... and the other : "http://www.metagames-eu.com/forums/les-tutoriels-playstation-2/tuto-popstarter-rev-12-emulateur-ps1-sur-ps2-hdd-133098.html#post1765412".

    I recommend good to you to read, they contain very many information on the project and its advance. If you go up a little in Topic, you will see some answers which I gave.

    Still a little patience, wait and your patience will be rewarded. “POPStarter rev13†is much more powerful than front. You will realize there as of its output. Prepare your files “VCD†by eliminating the “Vmode†(for the games out of PAL), it is a consulting.

    Kind regards.

    RE: Popstarter rev13

    Great News:

    Cool, It definitely will be something I would like to venture.

    BTW: I figured out how to get My PS2 ISO's to work from the browser.
    The Kermit program wasn't making it happen for me. I had to use HDLGameInstaller,
    but after you load the game alternatively in OPL, or HDLoader, and save it once to memory card.
    Then run HDLGameInstaller, wish they did not name it something such similar to traditional HDLoader,
    anyway, then run HDLGameInstaller and select game option, and instead of default icon, i chose
    memory card save, and my game loaded right up. I can now get Metal Gear Sons of Liberty to work
    from OSD Browser.

    peace..

    The PlayStation 2 can support larger cards. It's just that alot of these compatible cards are too slow to work properly with Magicgate, since they usually fail at the MECHACON challenges during probing because of their low speed.

    I just realized that nobody has ever talked about the Katana 16MB card, which was the only licensed card to be larger than 8MB in capacity. I should think that it functions as well as a 8MB Sony card.

    Wow, sp193! How are you! Thanks a lot for all your work at ps2 scene, specially your last picodrive port (it bring back Snatcher to my TV).

    Yes, your point seems more reasonable to me. When I install homebrew like FMCB or Snestation to the compatible card it does boot, but sometimes if you begin to quick navigate through menus or enabling/disabling things in a rush, it get stuck. So definitely must be a speed problem, like you said.
    I never heard of Katana MC, here at Canary Islands too little arrives (we're like marginated) You can barely find electronic products or even a thing that goes out of the "normal products", like football stuff and such. Sorry for that last grunt but this makes me mad.

    I have got one recently, I didn't make much tests with some known games which do not work with fake/larger memory cards, but so far it's working perfectly. I've installed many versions of FMCB on it, from 1.7 to 1.93 and all have worked.

    Although having 16MB of total capacity, it's divided in two 8MB "banks", so that it acts as a 8MB device at a time. It has a button to switch between the two 8 MB banks.

    Here some pics of it:

    n562wk.jpg MC Katana 2.png

    As you can see it uses a CXD3740 Magic Gate chip which can confirm that it's really a licensed Sony product. At the right of MG chip there is another one involved in a black epoxi ball which (I believe) is responsible for switching the NAND pages

    Also, its NAND has actually 32MB in size, which means that it's possible to format each bank to 16MB by using MC Annihilator program. So I suppose that the 32MB Katana version is actually the same of the 16MB one.

    What about those 32mb Magic Gate memory cards, there are some up for auction in ebay really cheap from China,
    although they have Playstation Logo on it? Anyone know if these are good, they are selling cheaper than those
    of Katana brand.

    I am going to put both brands on my Favorites, it would be neat to know if they are both fast as 8mb Official Memory
    cards.

    My 128MB one, doesn't say Magicgate, just says Memory card. I just learned from you guys this Magicgate
    explanation, as well as their speed.

    I wish I would have known that before i bought this 128mb Card for my PS2.

    Thanks guys, for sharing on the Katana cards.

    If you took one apart, you will realize that it won't have a Sony chip as it's controller chip. My 64MB cards have a CMD9800, which might be either a clone or generic version of the CXD3740/CXD9600. Those cards appear to support Magicgate fully and properly. However, this might not be the case for every compatible card out there.

    So far, I don't think that anyone has found a compatible card that is larger than 8MB in size, but yet as fast as one.

    Well I happen to have this version and I am getting that error. So what can I do about making the emulator work? I know the things that vash32 had packed in with the original POPS-00001 worked fine. So are you telling me that I am going to have to reformat my drive and start all over just because of this? I would really appreciate it if I could keep my drive intact and fix this without having to reformat because of something I didn't know before installing the image.

    Well, if the disk image you've written to your HDD contains both the HDDOSD and the PSBBN, there would be a lot of junks to delete... You can get rid of all the preinstalled stuff and preserve your HDL partitions, but you'd get some fragmentation after installing new games or creating new partitions.

    1) Get AKuHAK's uLE HDD Edition WIP7;
    2) Using uLE, delete all the pre-installed partitions (do not attempt to delete the __mbr, you can't anyway);
    3) Create the following system partitions, the size doesn't matter :
    __net
    __system
    __sysconf
    __common
    4) Choose your destiny :
    - Install FHDB alone, or a properly cracked HDDOSD (if you use a LBA28 HDD), or both (if you use a LBA28 HDD).
    or
    - Install the HDDOSD 1.00J which was modified to support large HDDs (you may find a copy at the place where you've grabbed the HDD image that is in your HDD).

    Reinstalling the apps to your HDD is quite easy when using FHDB, refer to its documentation, it executes standard ELFs.
    Otherwise if you want to make your partition bootable, grab AKuHAK's HDLdumX mod, and additionally SCEDoormatNoME as ELF-to-KELF converter.

    Last but not least, a reminder : POPS-00001 does contain $ony's original modules. It means that POPS-00001 may fuxxor your HDD (if it's bigger than 137 GB) depending to how you've partitioned it.
