[PS2] POPS stuff & POPStarter

Read my reply above. Anything up to the SCPH-39000 has a complete PlayStation. I am not totally sure about the SCPH-50000 and SCPH-55000, as I remember that they changed something too (SPU?).

With the older consoles, the only glitches that can be expected should be of the graphical type, since only the logic behind the GPU was emulated in software. It might even have been nearly perfect in compatibility.

The SCPH-75000 and newer have a new IOP, which had more things integrated into it. I am not surprised if compatibility is worse with that model, but it's still not a really bad compatibility rate.

I found some PPC code in the boot ROM of PlayStation 2 models, starting from that series. I do wonder if the IOP is actually a PPC-based MCU, which emulates the R3000A that the PlayStation 2 originally had (That would also explain why some things seem to perform differently, like PS emulation and USB support).

from service schemes for ps2 - we can see it's exactly PIO, atleast it uses addr/data bus and most general control signals (RD, WR, CSx).
but i poticed, pinout can be different from models (FAT) to models(slim).

ye, ps1 has no usb/eth. but in psio we can use more powerful mcu w/ such I/F

I'm still having an issue with Driver 2 (combined). Using usb, the game loads fine, but when I install the game to hdd, it will crash when trying to load the main menu. However, if while the game is loading the main menu, (shows the loading bar) and I open and close the igr screen, the game will continue to work perfectly. No modes seem to help either.

 

I tried to combine the two discs of driver 2, the result is:

-1 bin file with 1.20 mb

-1 cue file with 73 bytes

-1 toc file with 111 bytes

This happens for all games i try to combine, i follow the steps of README but the extract file vomit two pasts with two text files with 0 bytes.

If you have another specific tutorial, i would be glad if you share it here.

 

Works Driver 2 Pal version 1.0 USB [DRIVER 2.VCD 989,850KB] combined tested, you must edit ___merge.txt and change SLUS to SLES.

change cd names in extract.bat. Because you use wrong names for discs

 

I can't rename the two pairs of bin/cue with exactly ''driver-2'' as name, becose windows doesn't accept to rename two different files with the same name, but i still can rename one only pair of bin/cue files.

EDIT: okay, i did it, sorry for my noob questions...but in the text says it would result in a 946 mb file and the result was a 617 mb file

 

If it gave you a file thats the same size as just one of the discs, than it likely didn't work properly. You must rename both of the files to match what it says in the extract.bat. Its slightly confusing when you're dealing with a multi-disc sequel game, because names will be something like "driver2-1.bin" and "driver2-2.bin" so its "driver2" ... the name of the game ... and "-1" ... meaning disc1 or "-2" ... meaning disc 2 or you could just name them 1.bin and 2.bin, and modify the extract.bat file to match those names. edit: also, I don't think you need to bother messing with the .cue files, it only needs the .bin files, and a new .cue will be created for the merged disc.

 

Pardon, i was having these problems becose i fought the bin file should be renamed as driver-1 and the cue file as driver-2, but in reality it has to be both files as driver-1 and the another pair as driver-2, now its working fine and the 946 mb file was created, thanks for your help.

If you test the games you've turned into one VCD (eg Chrono Cross, Vampire Countdown, Final Fantasy VII) you can also specify the lists and test your results. All your tests and results should be included in these lists.
