[PS2] POPS stuff & POPStarter

    @MonkeyBoyJoey do you use the latest beta version of POPStarter (the feature wasn't implemented in the "stable" WIP 05 build) ?

    If you use the beta and it does not work, try this :
    1) Choose the disc you want to insert (Select+L2+R2+D-pad);
    2) Open the CD lid (Select+L2+R2+Triangle) then close it right after (Select+L2+R2+Square) as fast as you can.

    Originally, the emulator had no disc change system. The design of my disc change function is quite hackish and may not be compatible with all the games. The trick I described above may or may not help with those incompatible games.

    SOTN isn't compatible with POPS-00001, since it requires the compatibility mode 0x01 to run, and POPS-00001 does not apply compatibility hax to the emulator.
    BTW, please do not double-post. The thread is huge enough.

    Mode 0x07 changes the way the textures are rendered, with the overal side effects we know.
    It's not configurable. Someone has to write his own hack.

    If you're talking about clut hacking :
    $SAFEMODE to the top of CHEATS.TXT
    The Tomb Raider game versions with multiple EXEs or level programs, need a D-code before each line of your clut hacking code. That would make the code list super heavy. The maximum quantity of codes the cheat engine can handle isn't known. It depends on many parameters, including the code types that are used.

    [Offtopic about $SAFEMODE : it causes a black screen after PS1 logo for Crash Bandicoot. Just for the records if it happens to someone else. ;) ]

    @hascock - I merged that string of random posts. Please put some thought into your posts and all information in one post rather than double posting (or posting 9 sentences as separate posts).

    It still is unclear what you're trying to say - what is your question? What are you trying to do? What have you done to throw up these errors?

    X-Files doesn't work, but it's weird in how it fails. It basically makes the emulator 10 times slower when a fmv is played (basically 90% of the game), main menu appears and disappears at each press of a button, and worse of all, the image is all scrambled in a vertical column arrangement.

    I know this is probably wishful thinking since not even the PS2 DECKARD can run it well (maybe older PS2 consoles can but I can't verify), but can it be fixed for this emulator?

    I wonder why it is complicated to emulate, isn't there like an Apple FMV plugin developed for the PS1 on that one or something?

    Wish PS1 emulation info was easier to find, I'm legitimately curious about it.

    Found my issue, I was using the WIP 05 version. Updated to WIP 06 and disc swapping now works.

    Thank goodness for your 480p cheat code btw. Makes playing 70's Robot Anime GEPPY-X so much easier. I can play with a normal sync on green setup now and have full color unlike my makeshift setup before! :D I guess that confirms 480p working for that game as well lol! Only issue I've encountered with 480p is that the image isn't centered vertically. Adjusting the image in my monitor's settings corrected it.

    Quick rundown of everything I've found from this:

    • 70's Robot Anime GEPPY-X works with POPStarter on the Internal HDD method.
    • Game's BIN/CUE can only be converted properly using CUE2POPS 2.3. This is with perfect rips of the game discs. Those who got it working before were probably using downloaded versions that do not work correctly in emulators after mission 2 in my experience. These versions use the name "70's ROBOT ANIME GEPPY-X - THE SUPER BOOSTED ARMOR" as a title when the game's actual title doesn't have "The Super Boosted Armor" on the discs, manual, or case. That only appears in the title screen. In fact, the disc label when ripping in Imgburn is GEPPY_X_# with the "#" being the disc number.
    • The game supports 480p using the $480p cheat.
    • The game supports disc swapping with the latest version of POPStarter.

    Thank you everyone who helped out! Being able to play this game on a console is great! Keep up the awesome work here!

    Hello
    Some guys and me are using the emulator for speedrun practice with some cheats to help
    We are having some problems with Mega Man X5 and X6 (US Ver.)

    X5 is fine except very last boss door (Sigma). The game just crashes and you can't proceed to the last two fights of the game

    X6 also has the same door crash problem but earlier, in the Maverick Zero door and the gameshark I use for practice (press select for death) doesn't work, when activated in CHEATS.txt it makes only X is playable even if you have choosen Zero or Falcon before

    I tested in all compatibility modes, nothing changed. Also tested the specific gameshark code in emulator and works properly
    Any idea how we can fix it? if videos are required I can record later

    Hi !

    Can you please submit VMC for these games, with a save point close to these issues and a description to make the crash happens ? (and the cheat code btw)
    Also, which mode did you use ? HDD, USB or SMB ?
    If you have time, pls also submit a compatibility report on the lists (see OP for links).

    Mega Man X4

    Everything is fine. However, when using the code "Hit select for Suicide", Zero gets stuck after getting teleported (this happens in the no-loading screen transitions in Peacock, Mushroom stage and all the teleports of Boss Rush). This makes Boss Rush and Sigma impossible for practice since we can't start the fight and proceed to Sigma.

    Same door problem but earlier for Nightmare Zero, at least opening and closing the lid works on this too. But the worst part for us is the "Hit Select For Suicide" code problem, even if we choose Zero or Falcon we can only get unarmored X in the stage. Select for death function works though.

    $SAFEMODE at the top of your cheats seems to fix the issue for Mega Man X4. Try it.
    Gonna try the 2 others games later today.

    @krHACKen : what about "inverting" $SAFEMODE ?
    I mean :
    - if CHEATS.TXT exists in VMC folder, $SAFEMODE is always enabled, the user doesn't have to write it in CHEATS.TXT ;
    - but the user can disable it with another special cheat created especially for this (like $NOSAFEMODE for example). Useful for games that doesnt work if $SAFEMODE is enabled.

    Just a suggestion. ;)

    I just tried $SAFEMODE for Mega Man X4 and it deactivates all the cheats.
    Also tried for X6 but nothing changes (select kills, lives are infinite, but still can't choose Zero or Falcon)

    About $NOSAFEMODE, adding it to the top of CHEATS.txt doesn't seem to change anything for both games.

    Oh yes, you're right. Sorry, I focused on the issue you mentionned, did not pay attention to side effects of $SAFEMODE.
    It guess it works with $SAFEMODE because for an unknow reason, $SAFEMODE disables the cheats. o_O Really weird, cause your cheats type are suuposed to be accepted by the cheat engine. I'm affraid that only kHn can answer you.

    I wonder what would happen if we try to hardcode your cheats into the VCD so they are always ON...


    Sorry for the confusion. $NOSAFEMODE doesnt exist as special cheat. It was a suggestion for kHn to implement in a future version, since it's more than recommended to enable SAFEMODE in CHEATS.TXT. $NOSAFEMODE would let the user to disable SAFEMODE for games that doesnt like it.
