Thanks for responding . Now, I need know how I can identify my USB device as fast or slow. And the launch type that I used is not listed on report compatibility website, since I used a 0.9.4 rev928.

    A bientôt ;).

    Hey @AlGollan84,
by posting exclusively in French, you exclude the majority of users from understanding your posts. Could you please try to also include an English translaton in the future so we can all benefit? Thank you.

On a different note, this thread is now almost up to 100 pages. I don't know if there's an upper limit, but in any case I doubt anyone will work through all of this looking for info. Maybe it's time to consolidate all the pieces of wishdom in a new thread?

Let me give a tip to our friend @AlGollan84. Do as Antonioks and Joseri do: Put a translated text in ENG with your french message. Also try another tradutor website. I can understand you translating your text to portuguese BR.

    Greetings, ladies and gentlemen.

My PSOne died and I would like tu use my PS2 to play old games when I find time.

    Hardware:
    PS2 SCPH-39004
IHDD label MIC Ultra ATA (160gb)
    Network adaptator SCPH-10350

I used the "newbie pack" image on my IHDD to get FHDB. It was in order to get the opportunity to play PS1 games through IHDD or USB stick.
I tried PS2PSXe but it failed. I get black screen after the game logo. It "vibrate" and then goes dark. I tried every BIOS I could find..

I tried POPstarter following the ShaolinAssassin tutorial found here:
    https://bitbucket.org/ShaolinAssassin/popstarter-documentation-stuff/wiki/quickstart-usb

It did not work. I got black sreen again.

So I followed tips from ShaolinAssassin and used "PPF-O-Matic" with the debug patch found here:
    https://bitbucket.org/ShaolinAssassin/popstarter-documentation-stuff/wiki/debug-mode

It said to give here the texts shown so here it goes:
    """
    POPStarter, Revision 13
    Build Date 2015/06/03
    WIP 05 PUBLIC RELEASE

    * POPSTARTER LAUNCHER INITIALIZATION *
    * USB MASS STORAGE DEVICE LOADING MODE *

    sio2man : 25
    usbd : 26
    usbhdgfsg : 27

    Opening mass:/POPS/...[]
    """
For information, I tried the game ISO (S*ul Bl*de) on pSX_1_13 emulator and it worked with the PSO - "DTLH3002.BIN" BIOS, with few sound issues.

    Could you, please, help me?

@IvanPepe can you post a list of your files in a POPS folder.

    Of course.

    Inside my POPS folder is:
    POPS_IOP.PAK (917ko)
    Soul_Blade_PAL.VCD (516.135ko)
    XX.Soul_Blade_PAL.ELF (129ko)

Note that I found "POPS_IOX.PAK" and renamed it "POPS_IOP.PAK". I hoped it was the right thing to do.
I give you the size of the files in case it can be useful, but it is not part of their names.

    Hmm, POPStarter Revision 13, WIP 05 (2015/06/03) doesn't support "POPS_IOX.PAK", so look for a "POPS.PAK"
(renaming "POPS_IOX.PAK" to a "POPS.PAK" will not help).

You also need a "PFS_WRAP.BIN" file in a POPS folder for a USB.

BTW why you rename "POPS_IOX.PAK" to "POPS_IOP.PAK"?

The POPStarter version you have is older than the PAK file, meaning it's not supported (POPStarter cannot unpack/load it).
POPS_IOX.PAK is for use with the beta version of POPStarter.
Also, the PAK files cannot be renamed.

POPStarter WIP 05 (the one you tried) requires another file in the POPS folder to work in USB mode, PFS_WRAP.BIN. This file isn't needed by the beta version.

Judging by the debug texts you've posted, it looks more like a USB access issue. Increasing the USB access delay may help...

EDIT : and by the way, Soul Blade (all versions) gives horrible character glitches on POPS.

To add: all of these information are in a DaSA tutorial (including "POPS.PAK", "PFS_WRAP.BIN")
    that you (@IvanPepe) posted.

To add delay, create CHEATS.TXT in a POPS folder.
    Open it and add $USBDELAY_#
    Eg: $USBDELAY_5

    Alright.

Thank you both for your quick answers.

If I understand well, I am working with the wrong set of software.
I am aware that I cannot ask for a direct link on this forum. Would it be acceptable to ask for a more specific private message, please? On where to find the right set of software?

@Jolek: I tought it was the same kind of BIOS but with a different name. Same as a gamer calling a PS1 (the first gen) à PSOne (the second gen, smaller). I am new to this "freeing console" thing. Changing the name was a desperate move to give POPStarter the BIOS it needed and that I did not find.

@krHACKen: Could you elaborate the part about the "Increasing the usb access delay", please? How could I do that? I tried with two separate USB stick. I am currently using a recently bought-one on the sole POPS purpose.

EDIT: I just read your other post about DaSA tutorial. I will try to find this post and get it working. I will keep you posted. Thanks again!

There are two USB access delays that can be set : one for POPStarter, the other for POPS.

If POPStarter fails to open a file from the USB device or freezes trying to access it :
A higher USB access delay for POPStarter must be hard-patched to the config table of the POPSTARTER.ELF, at the offset 413 (hexadecimal) of the file, as said in the wiki.

If POPS kicks you to the PS2 menu because it cannot find the VCD on your USB device, or if POPS freezes when it's executed :
A higher USB access delay for POPS must be set to the CHEATS.TXT file, with the command $USBDELAY_#.
(cannot be done with the WIP 05. It's a beta POPStarter feature).

@IvanPepe and guys : my bad, my fault on this. I realised yesterday that I mixed infos of stable and betas releases in this quickstart guide (ie I said POPS_IOP.PAK instead of POPS.PAK - and I forgot PFS_WRAP.BIN in the previous version of the guide) -_-
I updated the page yesterday and also updated the USB pack.

    Sorry for the incovenience. *ashamed*

    My issue update:
I just tried with the beta version (WIP 06) of POPStarter.
If I understood well, it has some perks such as the USB Delay. Unfornately, I had a black screen. I tried with the "CHEATS.TXT" and the delay line to "$USBDELAY_5". Same problem.

    Here is the text:
    """
    POPStarter, Revision 13
    Build Date: 2016/09/18
    WIP 06 OPEN BETA TEST

    * POPSTARTER LAUNCHER INITIALIZATION *
    * USB MASS STORAGE DEVICE LOADING MODE *

    sio2man : 25
    icaan : 26
    usbd : 27
    usbhdfsg : 28

    Opening mass:/POPS/...[]
    """
And then it just stays trapped on this screen.

    What did I miss, please?
Again, sorry: I am new to all this.

PS: I hope the glitches are not too bad. I sincerely am hyped to get back to Soul Blade.

    What PAK did you use:
    "POPS.PAK" or a "POPS_IOX.PAK"

    Add more info:
    - files in a POPS folder
    - size of a VCD file
    - MD5 checksum (bin file)

I have tried Soul Blade SCES_00.577 and the game should at least boots.
    MD5 (BIN) checksum:
    Code:
    77e20b0635dfac6576309bb2d43cf566

    Hello @IvanPepe.

    Bon WE à vous.

Vous pouvez me contacter par MP si vous le désirez, je vous répondrai en Français.

$USBDELAY_# does not affect POPStarter, it affects the emulator (POPS) which here is not yet loaded, due to the problem accessing mass:/POPS.

I had a look at the POPStarter source code to see what it actually does when it says "Opening mass:/POPS/...".
It issues fioGetstat to check if the POPS folder does exist. If fioGetstat returns an error, POPStarter does fioMkdir to create the POPS folder, and prints "FAILED" after the "...".
Since you don't even get "FAILED" after "Opening mass:/POPS/...", I guess fioGetstat crashed the USBHDFSD driver, maybe because your drive isn't properly formatted...

Is your USB drive FAT formatted ? If it's NTFS formatted, then it'll not work.

As bad as this unfortunately. And there's no known fix. I can't remember if the odd glitches affect the gameplay, but it definitely ruins the fun.

I used "POPS_IOX.PAK". I thought it was the one I am supposed to use with POPStarter WIP 06. Did I misunderstand?

    In my POPS is:
    CHEATS.TXT
    POPS_IOX.PAK
    Soul_Blade_PAL.VCD
    XX.Soul_Blade_PAL.ELF

I am sorry, I do not know what this "MD5" means. I found the ISO on another website.

My USB is a scandisk "cruzer switch" 16gb. I formatted it in FAT32. It is brand new so I assume it is at least USB2.

The first thing I did was to formate it in FAT32.

What should I do? Thank you all for your help!

PS: I still would like to try it out. Maybe it is not "that" bad..

    Re-bonjour @IvanPepe.

    Passe un bon WE.
