    Everyone,

A quick question for you: the DVD drive in my T15K seems to be stuck/malfunctioning.

Before I start opening everything up, is it worth trying to repair the mechanism or it would be best to just replace the entire assembly?

    Thanks,

    Jolly

Don’t know if the t15000 is different but the normal tool uses the same drive as the 1x000 retail consoles, probably needs a new belt and some cleaning

The issue is that when I press the eject button, the tray does not come out. I hear the head mechanism moving slightly, but the tray does not slide, it seems stuck.

    Worth taking apart?

Ive had same fault on a retail, was the motor not the belt. But I would go with belt first.

Understood, where would I find replacement/spare parts for these drives?

I didnt manage to find a compatible replacement part. I had to ask on the forum for a spare from a dead/donor system.

Ok, thanks. I will open up the system and then I will ask the forum based on what I find...

Also sometimes the tray gets stuck on the case of the system, especially if it took a hard knock in shipping,

Thanks, I had this TOOL for quite a while and the tray had worked before, so I suspect something went wrong recently...

Did you try tapping the side of the DVD tray or applying pressure to it while you press the eject button?

Yes, I even tried to gently pull the tray door while pressing the eject button. I can feel the head assembly moving slightly, but the tray doesn't budge at all. Usually with some of these drives, if you pull hard enough you can pull the tray out against the resistance of the tray motor, but I can't seem to move it at all...
Time to disassemble, I am using the PS2 Tool guide, but the T15K is slightly different...

Just to clarify my post. Its the motor I couldnt find a generic compatible part and had to source on the forum. The belt you will be able to get elsewhere without much issue.

I had a 10k with a problem like this, one of the teeth of the assembly had broken off. When I added pressure to the dvd drive while pressing the eject it somehow would aline and open up. Had to open up the kit to access the dvd drive, which is a serious pain but I got it fixed eventually with some handy work.

Ok, I think I got to the source of the problem.

It looks like a small section of the bottom of the DVD tray broke off and the mechanism does not release the tray anymore...

There may be more to it, but upon disassembly it looks like the CD tray opening motor works fine, and the belt is in place and seems to be working fine...

Would anybody know where I can source an exact replacement for the tray? Below are pictures of the tray, with a closeup of the identification numbers...

    Any help is appreciated!

The teeth are what operate the eject system. That looks unrelated.

Change the belt first. It's usually the problem.

The part that is broken is part of the pickup assembly dropping as the tray comes forward. Its possible its getting stuck during the movement and therefore wont eject.

I will change the belt since I have disassembled the whole drive...

Precisely. It looks like the small white notch that is part of the pickup assembly movement block gets out of the groove and gets stuck. I don't think that only replacing the belt is going to fix it.

    That's a good point.

@jollyroger you are, of course, welcome to post a WTB for the parts needed.

Upon further inspection, it looks like motor does not have enough strength to move the pickup assembly by actuating the sliding white plastic bracket. This may be due to the motor being worn out or the belt not providing enough grip.

By placing the drive horizontally and gently pushing from the side on the white sliding bracket I managed to get the drive to open and close a few times. It opens and closes correctly one out of 4 times.

If I then position the drive vertically again, the mechanism fails to move, and even after repositioning the drive horizontally it fails to open again until I prod the bracket.

I have ordered online a replacement (V1, with brass pulley) motor (which seemed to be weak) and a replacement belt. Given that the drive tray has some broken bits, I will post a WTB for it or for a whole V1-V4 DVD drive.
