Compare attach rates. That's where the real money is.

You can count my household in with 2 PS3s this week (and dead xboxes).

Considering the XB360 has over a year head start. I think it is Japan that really affected those figures.

Well, the PS3 has sold nearly 2 million more than the XBox360 in Japan, so that would explain why the numbers are closer than you'd think.

However, the only really suprising thing is how many PS3s sold for the retail price. The XBox360 has about 1/3 more total sales and it has been available 1/3 longer at retail. So they are about even, despite the XBox360 being a lot cheaper. To me, this is odd.

If you sync the launch dates, PS3 is outselling 360 :p

my friend says "the problem is there is still way more XBox'es in the wild, and you can sync dates as much as you want. Installed base is larger, attachment rate is higher for xbox. So developers target xbox 360 first, and ps3 is a second-class citizen for games which came out for both platforms. I'm not much into games, but the one I looked forward (and played thru) - the Fallout 3 - was told to be running fine on XBox 360 and was bug-ridden (talk about see-thru-walls level of issues) on PS3.

So I dunno.. PS3 is a good Blu-ray player, it's supposedly a great piece of hardware (though one of my friends had to reformat his PS3 because it went nuts after installing some game), but when it comes to it being a "game console" - well.. sorry.. but it sucks (and at twice the price).

And you can actually see how hardcore developers flock to XBox (like Final Fantasy 13 won't be PS-only anymore. That's big)"

All I'm pointing out is "death clock" is a terrible exageration. If this PS3 is a death clock ,then the 360 is on its death bed. Its selling faster than 360 did, despite being double the price.

I don't know what the figures say, but even if the PS3 stopped being produced today it has given me, personally, something to remember it by - playing GT5 Prologue with the G25, what an experience!

All versions had pretty much the same huge list of issues to begin with, there were a few unique to each machine. Some people never had problems, others had a number. ps3 version actually got the 1.1 patch well before the pc & 360. Fallout 3 was a great game & I enjoyed beating it & getting all the trophies on the ps3 (not difficult, just a matter of time really). Level cap at 20 was bullshit though & not being able to continue playing at the end could have annoyed anyone who hadn't got an old save game to go back to. OK, microsoft got the exclusive dlc, good for them, I woul dhave liked a little bit more, but hopefully they paid well for it to make up the missed sales on ps3. Actually, dlc like this is unfair, it should have been in the game to begin with instead of a charged extra. There didn't seem to be as many quests as Oblivion in the game.

I don't quite understand that - what's a hardcore developer? I don't see developers flocking exclusivly to any machine, it makes no sense financially. Sony has a number of studios making exclusives & they look after them well. I'm not that up on microsoft stuff so I don't know if they have a similar set-up. BTW, I think FFxiii is ps exclusive in Japan & FFxiii Versus is a ps3 exclusive, as is the psp game (forgot the name).

Not sure what he meant. Reading it back I wondered who'd hacked into my account, but I was quoting a friend.

I want a PS3 sometime. Killzone 2 and Uncharted plus I would really like Bluray now because I have been watching movies like crazy. Still wish HDDVD didn't die since I love mine...

I like the original ps3s(the launch ones with BC) I think they cut the ps3s throat when they removed BC but thats just my opinion.

I know. The general public doesn't care but I do. Now I gotta save up some bucks and go to egay.

If the old units bust down does Sony replace them with likewise BC ones or no? I see busted ones on ebay a lot, no disc reading, no video output, yellow light, red light, are these easy to fix like the PS2 was or no?

when a friend of mine sent his psp phat in to be fixed they sent him a brand new slim&light back because they couldn't fix it.

so my guess would be that you get a new ps3, non BC.

I kind of want a PS3 for God of War 3. I might get one in a few price drops when it and the games are cheap as hell.
