Sony will slowly release their internal knowledge of Cell programming so other devs can make games look as good as GT5 & Last Guardian. It's a strategy to slowly extened the console's life. You'll see more devs start to take advantage of the Cell for original titles rather than always produce ports. This will be a drop in the bucket, though.

I don't think there is any death clock in relation to the PS3. I know this console is not very popular among lots of people on this board, but its future is very bright compared to the 360 and even Wii.

    - In Japan the PS3 has crushed the 360 from the moment it was released.
    - In Europe the PS3 has recently surpassed the 360, and is now in the lead with one million units.
    - In the US the 360 is in the lead, but the PS3 is slowly gaining since the price drop.

One can only guess how many of the sold 360's are still in use, due to the past RROD problem. And how many people own more than one 360 (unmodded for online and modded to play backups)

The Wii is sales-figures-wise another story, but to be honest.. can you really compare a Wii with a 360/PS3? Anyway, the recent production drop marks the begin of the end for this major dust collector.

I think it's only fair that the PS3 critics admit that they were wrong about this machine, and they can do so in this topic.

I'd like to see linux distros that can take advantage of PS3's hardware, but I doubt we'll see that during it's "lifetime". And, if we use PS2 as an example, that might take a while.

By the looks of Taucias' post though, they seem far behind. 27 million isn't bad, but it's Playstation we're talking about.

Ultimately it is still too expensive.

Yeah, because the 360s out there are among a barren wasteland of dead units, am I right?

Oh, and the Wii sure as hell isn't a competitor, despite it's leading sales. hmmm...
Yah, really, production drop for after the holidays.. who'd think less people would buy it after the holidays?

Yes, dead units and lets not forget banned units, and then people have the nerve to complain about sony's drm

Sure Wii is leading sales, but my opinion is that Wii sales don't affect the 360/ps3 sales very much. Most people who buy Wii are:

    1. Casual gamers who like party games and controller gimmicks
    2. Nintendo fans, who are in majority disapointed in the released Wii games to date (and now also buy a 360 and/or ps3)
    3. Regular gamers who already have a 360 and/or ps3

There was no production drop last year after the holidays, so something must be different this year?
Maybe it has got something to do with the flood of 2nd hand Wiis available (atleast where i live).

Lack of decent exclusive titles prevents me buying one.

Honestly, my friends keep me from buying a PS3. I love playing games with friends. That's gaming, imo, at it's best. Everyone I know, that owns a PS3, use it almost exclusively for Blu-ray.

If a bunch of my friends got a PS3 and were all playing the latest PS3 exclusive, I'd get one in a heart beat.

This "excuse" wasn't valid 12 months ago, let alone now. There's so many exclusive games on the PS3 worth buying now.

Also I keep having this argument with a guy in work, if a game is multi-platform you have to buy it on the 360 for some unspoken reason (even if it doesn't have multiplayer)

If it's multi-format I buy it on the PS3, 99% of the time it's cheaper, and if I do want to sit there and get called a "ZOMG FAG!" by some 12 year old American kid, I can do so without having to pay a monthly fee.

I still don't know anyone with a PS3, so I've not played any recent games. I'd have bought a slim if it had linux, I just don't think I'm sony's target audience.

I can't bring myself to buy a 360, I don't want the hassle of the RROD.

    So I have a Wii.

    LOL so true.

To be honost I usually don't even hear what they say on PSN because of the poor quality, but thats a good thing as I don't want to hear them anyway.
    It's free so I don't complain.

One argument in favour of the PS3 is the G25/27 steering wheels. That's if you're into racing. I m so excited about GT5, I think people playing with a gamepad are missing out.

I like how the PS3 is compatible with so many USB devices/controllers. I own all three platforms and I've got mixed feelings about all three actually.

Same here, they all have their strong and bad points. I might jump on the PS3 fanboy bandwagon more than others, but that's just to add some balance to the rampant 360/Wii fanboyism. They are all worth buying, they all have bad points, just buy whatever takes your fancy, or buy them all if you can afford it.

I have all 3 and the Wii gets played the least (not sure it's been switched on in 6 months) but it's still got enough going for it to warrant staying under my TV (for now)
