Above 300 will be a killer on the console. Ecomomy still has not yet fully recovered so people ae less inclined to spend large money on toys. From what I have read on the xbox havig two versins that may be a reason why microsoft is launching theirs that way, so at least one version hits under the 300 mark
well ps3 will not the first to go for $400 in the U.S. if it does, when saturn came out here it was going for $399 and lets not forget were not even including tax yet(though i know it exsist everywhere esle as well) as well the 3do sold here for $700, mind they sold some, but sure as hell did not sell a decent number when it came to 3do, belive me theres going to be a good amount of people who will pay that much for a ps3, however the psp would have sold a lot better if it were not for the $250 price tag, and that is why alot are not buying it atm.
No the xbox 360 needs the hard drive to be backwards compatible so you have a choice with or without hard drive. That’s one reason I have laugh at the recent ebay auctions of reserves yours now. You have not a clue on which one and I could be wrong but I do not think final price has been set.
It will probably cost a fortune down here (The PS2 is sold between 320 and 480 dollars down here). So i'm already planning what i'll have to do to get one Xbox360 and a PS3...
Take a look here the hard drive is detachable and upgradeable. http://www.xbox.com/en-US/xbox360/factsheet.htm reading different reviews I read that they would offer without hard drive for less
Yeah but the few of us that use our passports get fucked when we go anywhere else. All of a sudden vacations are extremely expensive. This is a moot point for everyone else. Economics are relative. If someone makes $75k a year in the US, and 40,000 Pounds a year in the UK, then the dollar-pound market drops like 20%, everything is the same to Johnny consumer in both countries. Their pay is the same.... it just looks different when they compare. Unless you're one of the few who's pay fluctuates with the FX market (someone that works in one country, but is paid in the other) then there's no effect. You can of course, bitch about the inflated prices of EVERYTHING though. Get someone from the board to mail you one from the US.
So because its detachable you say theres two versions.... If you watch the our colony video J Allard says that they ***might*** make a larger hard drive if there is the demand and i think he says "it ships with a 20gb hard drive". Ill watch it in a min and tell you. Fudges it wasnt there... it was on the MTV thing during the break i think.... Either way im 90% sure he said it ships with a 20gb drive. No ones going to write for gams with a hd and then without and stuff. Turst me they wont sell two models.
You complain too much about money. You should be forever thankfull to have dollars and Euros's. I dare you to live down here. While the currency improved a lot, it still is: 1 Dollar = 2,45 Reais 1 Euro = 3,11 Reais Plus not any of those 3 companies are really here (Nintendo just imports USA stuff). Xbox and PS stuff is all imported from USA by game stores, or enter the country through Paraguay. Taxes + currency + dishonest people = Very Expensive.
What I read was to allow consumers a choice it would ship with or with out a hard drive to allow different pricing. Could be wrong jsut what I read.
Sure adults with full time jobs may buy this system for themselves, but that price is tough sell for parents (not including a hi-def TV) Is the market of middle class sinlge people with good salaries large enough to support the PS3 market? I am not sure about that, but I will guarantee that many kids will NOT be getting a PS3 for christmas. I didn't know anybody that got a jaguar, saturn, 3do or neogeo when I was kid (roughly the same price range in those days) and people had more disposeable income back then.
You have to feel for parents. You hate saying no to your kids but at that price range and the way the economy is it will be a tough sale. Isn't 2006 the year tvs need digital out? If so you will have a number of parents needing to replace their tvs as well.
Maybe they did some market research and decided they want the PS3 to be like "APPLE" products? Perhaps this product is not intended for mainstream consumers and is supposed to be a "chic" item that only the rich will buy and praise. Afterall worldwide iPODS and G5's are not stellar sellers when compared competative products. Plus the markup is so high "apple" as a companay doesn't really give a hoot. I hope video games are not going in that direction. But if this price is for real I don't see any other way it could be successful. I can't wait to see how the HDTV thing is going to go over. I think its going to be a real big problem. I have travelled extensivly through the US and I can say with confidence that most of the southern and midwestern part of the US will not be HDTV ready. People don't have the money and know how to upgrade and many of the cities they live in can barley keep the roads in good shape.
Don't worry, as always Sony will not come through with half the crap they listed. Hell they couldn't even support a hard drive, it will go for what ever the 360 is priced at.
Blame SCEA for the lousy support of the HDD in the PS2. In Japan, it still being supported and it's used a lot with online games and the BB Navigator stuff (Game Channels, E-mail,...)
I went to Sony market research panel couple months ago i think it was. Just asking us about the sony brand and the playstation brand... Alot of "ipod" and "apple" words thrown around...
Digital tv is a big issue with congress because of the switch over in 2006 and not as many people have digital tvs as they thought they would have had.
