i still wish for emu on ps3 and a ps3mc i would love to see pcsx2 on ps3... that would be a SLAP in sony's face!
Apparently that x3jailbreak is only going to be 20-40 dollars. Would be good if this turns out to be true?
The Jailbrake exploit can be as cheap as it wants to be. All you need is a few Chinese companies to start stamping out clones, and you've got yourself the next "R4".
So... Finally, Backwards Compatibility? I mean, could this somehow be exploited to run PS2 games on your PS3? That would be neat. That and emulation and media centre capabilities. There is still no console in the market that can do that in HD.
Not going to happen and if it does, it's going to run like crap. If it could already be done, sony would have left it so they could sell PS2 games on PSN. The 2nd rev systems where only partially emulated (the CPU). The HW for the GPU was still in the system.
Considering that this is the second time SONY have their "unbricking/restore" method hacked on a secure system, I think the next console they make will require server authentication for entering in factory mode lol. MS learned from the XBOX1 restore discs leak and the XBOX360 requires server authentication for unlocking factory mode... And ANY XBOX360 service disc you happen to find forgotten on a drive in a returned system will be useless for the same reason. Remember the PING17 stress test disc ? Poor SONY... We have to give them some slack as when Pandora released for the PSP, the PS3 was also out already. According to Mathieul, Geohot's work was vital on the finding of this exploit vector. So Geohot's work wasn't useless after all :-0 While I hate the fact that piracy will befall on the the system, we get a great opportunity to peek inside of the wonderful machine the PS3 is.
But can you actually download ripped PS3 games and run them off a hard drive? I thought it was only - currently - possible to play originals that you've ripped?
All the warez on torrents and such for ps3 were dumped improperly and still have the disc layer encryption. Thus currently yes, only ones you rip will work.
Avast me hearties, me thinks we should not be botherin' the Cap'n with such talk. Yarrr. Anyway, if this device allows the loading of .pkg files from a USB stick, will it also enable the system to load a custom non-signed BIOS (.pup)? It would be cool if full debugging could be enabled for homebrew. Oh, and the word is that the x3 is a fake. PS3Key has popped up though.
Not only that but with UMTS getting cheaper the nextgen might have that built-in to do authentication wherever it is and whenever it wants to, without the user knowing. The decision comes down to this: costs of chips+carriers worldwide (like amazon with the kindle) vs cost of selling subsidized systems that will get hacked. Any pirate who's dumb enough to think he can play a ripped game online deserves whatever it happens, and that includes the PS3 exploding and burning his house down. Unless some h4x00r with m4dski11z codes a perfect PS2 emu, I say not possible.
I can't wait to see people getting their consoles banned from Sony, and then start complaining / whining about it. Anyway, the PSN Terms of Service was updated months ago (with 3.15 i think), and if i'm not crazy, had one part that pratically said that Sony can update any console without the user noticing it.
Apparently the dump is already on some Chinese sites. On a standard consumer ISP data plan? What kind of files are you sending? There are plenty of ISPs in both the USA and the UK that have 'soft' bandwidth limits. If you are a high resource user they start to clamp down.
Yes, standard consumer data plan in Sweden. I don't know of any ISP here that practices bandwidth limits on land lines. There is very little reason too.
Storm, you really are pitiful . Cause in some "third world countries" (hell even real third world countries at times) has higher and bigger lines than the so-called "first world country", But oh well, I am happy with my 25/25 megabits line that I pay for, but I do not mind paying for that, when I sometimes get higher speeds from it, and I still only pay for 25/25 megabits of great Swedish craftsmanship.
Connection here is downloading pretty much 24/7 ...in Italy. - And no one ever said anything to us over the last two years. I'm quite impressed that such a simple exploit has appeared after all this time + If they can get homebrew running I may even fork out for a ps3 at some point. The media centre/emulators are the only things that interest me and as jtagging my 360 is totally out of the question > it would appear that this is the best hope yet. I just want to add to to the comments about 'piracy and modchips are rife in Europe' > This really isn't true. Sure, if you know where to look then it isn't hard but 99% of all console shops in Europe won't modify your console under the counter + 'most' people don't have modified systems. Piracy of this kind is a niche, some have it, but most don't/can't do it.* As for developing countries, 99% of the population can't afford ps3's - it's even more of a niche market out there, certainly nothing for Sony to be worried about at this point. + When the console 'does' become cheap enough Sony will have moved on to the Ps5 or Ps6 then. Anyway - fingers crossed for a stable mod+homebrew. * My definition of 'most' = the vast majority.
I had a better connection in PR China in 2001/2002 than my brother who was in the UK at the same time > Cheaper too! To be fair though, the UK was pretty bad when it came to high speed broadband - I hope it's changed now.
Well Arnold, the reason why I am so blistering happy about my real broadband, is every time the "tele companies/ISPs" are advertising for "brand spanking high internet speed", there is ALWAYS a but in it, and that is 1 or 5 megabits in upload, so I say fuck those guys, and leave me be with your so-called "super duper shitty so-called highspeed broadband", cause it is only their download speed, that is "high". If I wanted to, I could pay for 50/50 megabits, but I am fine with what I have at the moment. Hell they could turn the knob around , and go fuck all crazy (with even higher speeds) . But I am not worried, since Dansk Bredbånd (it means Danish broadband) are the old bredbaands bolaget from "hinsidan" (Sweden) and they do not fuck around with their speed. They actually fucking rock, and it is a fibre connection.
