That was incredibly uninspiring and lack luster. It's what I would imagine it is like to start up your PSP with it connected to a tv via one of those adapters. It's good to know that Sony feels free to recycle their old GUI's to save money.
Well, I'm not at all impressed. Looks F*ing ugly like I've always said. The GUI is identical to the PSX (useless DVD recorder / games player) and PSP like already mentioned. It just screams JIGSAW to me ! Slap a load of bits you have lying around together. Boring ! Nothing original. At least the 360 looks new and does the Wii. Yakumo

Yeah its nice to see the final hardware, but i agree with yakumo on it just being overall lackluster. Honestly who are they trying to win with that gui? I guess it might be a little harsh to attack it when all they are showing is boot it up and gui. I know the one for game cube and ps1 is extremely lackluster. Now lets wait till its released and see how reliable it is at $600.
Shit that was sooo LAME-O... Honestly trashing the PS3 isnt fun anymore. Announcements have been so abysmal lately that it would seem sony is trying to destroy the SCE division by releasing a complete-fuckup product. Some companies do that, but they usually use this strategy with lackluster divisions, not one (like the SCE) which brings most of the money. Oh snap! congrats sony for finally making a browser for a nonportable console! Its just 10 years after the NetLink:katamari:
i don't see the point of such sarcasm... wii will feature a browser to... i think that there's a little to much fanboys around lately, let's see the games of all the machines, not useless things like web-browser and GUI, before stanting to bash any new generation console.
Meh, I don't know. What's so bad about the design? I mean, besides the size and the stupid logo. I wouldn't give it any awards for design, but it seems okay.
personal preference; i just dont like it. You dont have to agree, people have different tastes. I dont like the psp-like userinterface either btw(didnt like psp's either). Ofcourse what matters the most are the games. If it proves to be a superior console for gaming then i'll get it when im ready to get a next(current?)-gen system. At the moment theres still to much PS2-stuff for me to play and enjoy, which include titles that are years old. So i dont have the need for any other system at the moment...
I don't mind the limited ergonomics and functionality of the GUI, but what really let me down is the lack of an Xwindow-style Linux GUI. With the support of USB mice and keyboards, its stupid to insist on the XMB - they could include an alternative GUI for users with a mouse and keyb.
Yeah but sony has been talking about browsers since the PSX. Then with the PS2 they hyped the AOL browser with HDD to counter the dreamcast's one, yet is 2006 and we dont see anything yet... On the other hand nintendo always said "consoles are for gaming" and therefore the Wii browser came kinda unexpected.
Doesn't anyone remember when kaz said this will be an expensive console but a cheap blue ray player. Look sony can do what they want and people will buy it based on sony's name. But if japanese developers leave sony to go back to nintendo or to MS (i hope and pray they do) their name will stay the same and they will clam all this bull shit. Sony ego is hugh but they have been number one for a long time they can't always stay that way it is impossible and these are the ides of march.
as i said, games will make the winner. who will get most releasesor exclusives from konami, namco, square-enix and other software houses like these will win. and i see sony still having loyal followers amongst such names.... be it good or bad, we'll see
