so many million playstation 2 units sold. The Playstation 3 will appeal to at least half of that number. It's called fan-base.

it can *appeal* all it wants, but you have to convert appeal to:

    [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

    + tax
    +at least 1 game ... =

    one more ;-) :noooo:

it sure is expensive, but are you telling me that not even 30.000.000 potential buyers cant afford a Ps3 out of THAT fanbase?

No they don't. they have to make twice as many because half of them will be broken just like the PSX and PS2

Maybe they could profit from that somehow... I can see it all now: "Introducing, the all new Playstation 3 Broken Blu-ray Laser XTREME EDITION!!!"

I don't think they are in such hot water as I would have thought a few months ago.

According to another Article on that site, ZOE 3 is coming out for it as well and will be "exclusive." I think exclusive titles are going to be the only saving grace for the PS3 though, with its huge price tag and all.

Like all other consoles before it, Im going to wait for probably 3 or 4 price drops before I get one, though. And by then most of the titles I wanted would be really cheap anyway.

Just gotta be patient, I guess.

You're absolutely right exclusive titles will earn them sales and I think M$ is getting better at that game though they still haven't secured an exclusive MGS and/or Resident Evil. I mainly bought my X360 for Dead Rising cause I knew it was coming on that platform.

PS3 is far from being DOA, but still I don't want wish them best of luck because of their arrogance towards the market, check this article on Kotaku basically Sony says Europe is happy to wait for the PS3. Who are they kidding?

Personnally I couldn't wait to get a new system this year and the X360 was out. X360 was not so exciting when it came out but now it is more than an option to me. If Sony would have delivered on its promise to get PS3 out by April then I would have waited and think twice.

Let's be obvious Sony's lost it...sadly. They came on the market at a time where Nintendo pretty much let us down (no SNES CD, N64 pouahh...) but the situation is now reversing... I wish SEGA and NEC were coming back to make hardware again...

I doubt it. since SEGA is making a killing with bad games and no hardware loss, while Nec has been out of the game for quite a long time...

I wonder, what if nintendo (instead of the Wii) decided to go the way of SEGA and become a 3rd partie?

Do you guys think it would be sucessful?

NEC have actually never been out of the game market unless you mean hardware. They have released 100's of games in Japan since the PC-FX bit the dust. Many of the games were for the Dreamcast under the lable NEC Inter Channel.

Well Nintendo so far has always been profitable on the hardware and software side. I guess it would work Mario and Zelda are well established classic names, but please no we already have to play Sonic on non-Sega machines...

Yeah I meant harware, PC Engine was so small and sexy...

I know they released loads of games since the demise of the PC-FX but I only play a handful. Most of them are dating sim aren't they?

The PC Engine was so sexy in it's time. It's amazing how big the F*cked it up with the PC-FX. Most of their later games followed the way of the PC-FX too, ie, Dating games.

Dunno, most casuals dont like zelda or mario, but is kinda different when you´re a nintendo user since those titles are 1st partie and therefore, the quality is above average.

I think if they went onto the 3rd partie bandwagon there's quite a risk that both zelda and mario end up being like current sonic games:-(

You're right it's one thing to make sure that your console has appealing and polished titles to make it compeling, than making sure you can ship as much crap as you can to maximize your revenue. I agree since SOA2 Sonic have been on the down, I tried the Sonic demo on X360 and it's really average even the graphics are not really convincing. At least it's not as bad as an EA title.

The problem with the PC-FX is that if it came 2-3 years before its time I think more development house would have signed up. In 1992 the Tetsujin project had good 3D but for 1994 compared the PSX it looked really pale.

Rather than rush the console out with the existing Tetsujin design minus the 3D part. They should have taken more time to give it a proper 3D GPU as it was fine on the 2D side. It's a shame really. At least they could have released more shooting games then they would have acquired a stronger hardcore fanbase.

BTW check this link it's a scan from EDGE on the PC Engine and also on the Tetsujin/PC-FX quite interesting actually. (Kudos to LMS from PCEngineFX forum for that)
