There was Bleemcast on the Dreamcast, but who knows how much help Sega provided? I am betting a dev kit, at least.

even if MS released Halo 3 along with a 360 price drop at christmas, the people that wanted a ps3 will still hold out.

    In theory, they can't.
But in reality, there are just too many factors out of Sony's control that could force them to delay this launch into 2007.

Good luck Sony, you'll need it!

We should be able to gauge the situation better post-E3. Then again Sony could spin up some new hype.

i think alot of this is hype. something will happen between now and then. World wide launch would be nice but the 500$ price point is high plus the cost of another hdtv. Man these are exciting times to be a hardware whore. Damn it i just both a 400$ ipod.

Taucias: Devkits, docs, and a promise that they were not to reveal Sega's involvment. Also, to avoid the obviousness of it being backed by Sega if it shipped on GDR, they let lose the (then) secret of allowing the DC to run data from standard CD's/CDR's (Yes, bleem! was doing it a few months before it became 'known' online, I helped out at their E3 booth in May of 2000 and was shocked that they were running bleemcast beta's on CDR on unmodded DC's, an unheard of prospect at the time. Almost makes you wonder if they leaked it to the rest of the world.

$500 is still a lot cheaper than the 500 euro Europe had to swallow during PS2 launch.

It can't be fuklly backwords compatible with ps1 games for the sole reason that the psp doesn't have enough buttons, or analog sticks.

Putting that asside, I have another question: I just bought Daxter for my psp, and it requires ver2.6 firmware. Is their anyway to overclock the system on 2.6 to 333mhz to remove/limit frame rate issues? If not, is their any word on sony building such a feature into future firmware versions?

Edit: My 666 post. Mwahahaha

I'm talking about PS3 backwards compatiblity, not the PSP emulator (which obviously will not be "fully" backwards compatible. THe screen can't handle the low res.
