PS4 is just a shitty PC, why not join us, the PC gaming master race?

The whole "Master Race" meme is shitty.

Anyway, there are still tons of reasons to own a console beyond the exclusives and any retarded social aspects Sony will push on us.

For instance, I play fighting games. Those need a stable platform. The PC ports are never going to see serious competitive play because of all the unknown factors across different PC's.

Japanese games. Yeah, I'm a "weaboo". Whatever, fuck you. Any of the interesting JRPG, Puzzle games, fun racers, mech games, etc never make it onto PC's. I guess that's in the "exclusives" category, but they're not the big system selling blockbusters.

There are more, but meh. People are going to know why they play them, and the "Master Race" jack-asses are going to continue flinging shit instead of maybe sitting down for 2 seconds and realizing the situation isn't as simple as it seems.

Thats Apple's business model, but replace "little black box" with aluminium unibody case.

And "high end" with "mid-range" and "$1000" with "$2000".

Unlike previous generations of consoles, the PS4 doesn't even beat my budget PC that I built last summer. That is what has changed even from the 6th generation's original Xbox. The Xbox, like the Dreamcast, or really most consoles, was ahead of PC hardware by at least six months and at a much more budget friendly cost at their respective launches.

I have already sworn off the next generation of consoles, mainly because I've played most games on my PC with better framerate, resolution, textures and lighting effects on a budget PC for this entire generation even though I own a 360 (repaired for free three times). But to see Nintendo release a system that is significantly less capable than the PS360, and now Sony releasing a "new" system that is barely on par with my FX8150, 16GB of DDR3 1600 and HD 7850, all of which were budget PC purchases that combined won't add up to the cost of a PS4 at launch.

Regardless of power, consoles are really "plug and play" systems. With a PC, there's various step to get a game started. There's also issues of drivers, graphic settings and so on. I prefer consoles over PC any day.

The Xbox was definitely not six months ahead of PCs when it came out, no idea where you got that from. It had pretty average PC specs for the time.

It's GPU was a hybrid between Nvidia graphics card generations and was ahead of the curve at launch. The Dreamcast with its SH4s + FPU plus PVRDC was more so, but the original Xbox was still powerful compared to even high end PC tech at launch, not to mention PC software.

Let me make a 100% true point. Could a 7 year old PC run Far Cry 3 to the same level of detail as the 360? No, it couldn't. The same goes with a modern PC and the PS4. In 5 years time that PS4 will be putting out impressive looking games while a PC from the same generation won't unless it's upgraded. The reason being is that console programmers need to work with the hardware to get the most out of it by finding new programming tricks and effects. PC game programmers just get lazy and make the game demanding more hardware power. It has always been this way.

So, in the long run a console will be cheaper for gaming and while near the end of its life it's PC big brother ports may be more impressive to some it will still be an enjoyable product that can be taken to your mates house with ease.

But that was my point! Even if you sold the system for dirt cheap people still aren't going to want to spend $1000 on a gaming console. Most people don't even want to spend $500 let alone $2000.

Quoted for 100% truth. This one reason I stay with consoles. Ease of use and the need to not upgrade it's hardware to play a game.

well if the console was sold at component cost and the games sold cheaper eg £1000 console and £10-15 games

then the offset wouldnt be so hard to sell to the consumer, most of us wouldnt shell out for a decent TV at around 1k so why not a media console that does everything and does it well aka - a PC, is upgradable and not resticted in hardware or software.

modular and self servicable motherboard dies? get a new motherboard, not a whole new system. (ah la xbox 360 and ps3 issues)

steam, games for windows, open source, make your own if you want. emulation, multi display, true multi tasking, it's your hifi and movie system too.

    :)

Yeah, this is just true. In five years I will be at least one budget video card newer in order to play any games I might want to play. Similarly, in 2004-5 my Xbox could play Doom 3 and my budget PC could only display a slideshow even at the lowest settings. If the console sells well enough, developers will optimize (or ground up rewrite) games to work on it. The same cannot be said for older PC tech with the newest games. On the other hand, thanks to engines like UT3 my 2007 budget build was more than enough to keep up with anything the Xbox 360 got up until about last year. I can still use that X2 6400+ system to play the Arkham and Transformers games and anything else from the HD generation I want to play short of Sonic Generations. Even with the HD 4850 in that system the textures, framerate and lighting is better than my 360 can manage.

For me though, it has really become an issue that I just don't play modern games often enough to justify another $300-600 purchase in addition to my PCs. My back log alone makes it financially silly to even think about purchasing the "next gen" consoles. The only thing that might force me to do so is XBL being cut off for the 360, which I think would be PR suicide for Microsoft any time this decade. Sony can dig itself a sewage trench and die in it, I'll never buy anything from them ever again.

Because computers don't need more than 64 bit for now, and more bits makes it more expensive and you'd need to completely build all existing software from the ground up to support the 128bit architecture.
It's also the butter zone for cost effectiveness.
Graphics cards, on the other hand use higher bits- some up to 256. GFX cards just process larger amounts of data than CPUs need to, so they need a wider datapath. It's also the reason graphics cards have VRAm instead of RAM, because it's faster.

There's a quantum computer that's got 128 bit -http://www.dwavesys.com/en/products-services.html- but the uses for a quantum computer are few and far. It's also the size of four refrigerators.

PS3 is *kind of* 128 bit. IIRC X360 is *kind of* 64 bit. They've all got different bits for registers and memory and architecture... Especially the PS3. No good definite answer.

I have it on pretty good authority that the SH-4 is primarily a 32-bit processor not much different, but much more powerful, than the SH-2. The only thing that can get to 128-bit in the Dreamcast is the FPU and from what I have seen discussed 128-bit floating point calculations aren't actually useful in game. I can't remember if the PVR2-DC is 128-bit, that might be another area but I think the bus is 32-bit there too.

I have a gaming PC and I play my consoles more still. Why? Because the elitest PC gaming master race is the biggest bunch of whiny mongoloids.

I can not play a SINGLE game in my Steam Library/other games NOT Steam online without being accused of hacking and reported/kicked for doing well.

Hell sometimes it's when I'm doing mediocre! And even when my Kill Death Ratio is in the negative!

Xbox Live may have 12 year olds calling you a faggot over the headset, but at least they have an excuse...it's pretty sad when it's grown men who can't take someone being better than them at a game without getting butt hurt.

The abuse online is annoying. I get it all the time. I just want to play a game, and enjoy it without being called all sorts of names, and being ganged by other players because I'm doing well. It's just fucking annoying, and turns me off from Multiplayer.

I mute voices in pretty much every game I play, I also sit there shouting at the screen "hacker! there's no way he got a head shot from that far away in that short amount of time!!" - lol it's all part of the fun. But yeah I have to mute the voices because I can't stand arguments that take place in online servers, especially when a couple of mates come on and start being racist to everyone. There should be an option in every game for this which sadly in a lot of games there isn't, you ether have to put up with it or go through the player list one by one and mute them individually.

But all in all I generally can't stand multiplayer voice chat, and on consoles I found it to be unbearable to the point I've had to disconnect and find a different server many times because some 12 year old was going on about raping someone's 'mom'. I've done it with Counter Strike where I play with voices on and off and I prefer playing without rather than have people yelling at me to plant the bomb or calling me a hacker or shit.

The one thing that put me off completely getting a PS4 is this social media shite they're going to shove down our throats, I don't want to tell the world I've played a thousand hours of Killzone 4, or how far I am in what game. I'm willing to bet that the firmwares for these new machines are going to look like some shitty mix between windows metro and a facebook wall with adverts everywhere, every time I click a game it announces it to the world - fuck that.

Good old Yakumo being the voice of reason.

I don't get the Superority complex PC Gamers have. "build a PC join real gamers" *something about being gay and consoles* and now "The PC Master race"
What are PC Gamers nazi's now?

My 4 year old Laptop is more powerful than the Wii U but I don't game anything other than emulators on it nor do I feel the need to.
