Exactly. I don't see what's racist about them at all. People calling these racist are either: 1) Racist themselves ("holy shit, that's what Mexicans talk like - Sony's making a fool of them") 2) Way too fucking sensitive No one in my household thinks the Dolmeo adverts are racist. I'm sure Sony knows better than any of us here. And it's not just about selling units, brand awareness is probably the main issue. Edit your posts! Please stop double posting ive asked you before!
Sorry, Barc0de, I wasn't having a go at you or anyone in particular, well at the people going on about the racist crap maybe ;-) Yakumo
I think those ads were aimed at rich kids who think its cool to talk and act like that. I dont see many of them around where I live, but we got some guy from a big city in school once, that was white, and talked all like he was gangster and outran cops on a regular basis / whatever. Of course, those retarded ads wouldnt make me want a PSP, but there are other reasons I want one.
I hadnt seen the real ads untill this thread. I'm about to pee myself laughing is all I can say. Between this and the British ads, I've got to meet the guy(or gal, wouldnt want to descriminate:110 in charge of PSP marketing.
Man, they should try that stuff in Holland here, we had a huge media problem when someone accidentally said "fucking maroccian guys'' when the mic was on, and he almost got fired for it(was a highly ranked politician).
I find pretty much any ad campaign sony has ever pushed as ridiculous. I am not fond of sony product (although I do own, and occasionally enjoy, a PSP). Disappointing because I found out that what sold me on that is what sells everything on Sony's products... "what you're going to be able to do." Interesting note, didn't notice till now but TheLamer, you're a hardly a hop skip and a jump away from me. My parents live right down 14 in Barrington Hills, and I lift at the F19 off 12 and 22.
Well... FUCK... I just watched the ads. I happen to be mexican. I did find them a bit offensive. But I found them much more stupid than offensive. I mean, what the fuck are they trying to sell? What have the subjects got to do with the product? Man, utter crap. About the stereotypical mexicans...Do we REALLY sound like that?
Yeah, Yakumo, XerdoPwerko; you're right. They're not so much racist as just stupid. And the fact that they have nothing to do with PSP; they're just hoping to make something memorable so that people will talk about it later and someone will go, "What was that a commercial for?" "PSP!" "Oh really? Why, let's go buy one right now!!"
NO, but you guys sure as hell look like that! Seriously though, I can't stand these ads. When they come on I just turn off the tv. I never really saw them as racist, just moronic.
Heh, well, my hair REALLY is that messy today, but that's not representative of all mexicans. :fresh: ;-) Anyway, these ads really suck. Any african americans here offended/annoyed with them too?
Ok, I think this needs a time out, it's getting just the wrong side of playfully offensive towards each other.
I don't generally question moderators, but to what posts are you referring? I think the recent conversation has been quite playful and we all seem to know it. Well, with the exception of the whole madhatter / shadowlayer thing.(why is everyone so hard on him anyway?)
When I saw thos commercials on TV months ago, I laughed my ass off because they were just funny. You guys should've seen the other one with the squirrels where the slogan for that one was, "PSP. Nuts you can play with outside."
It's only natural that opinions differ regarding the content of those ads. Some people like it , some dont. But, alas , I think focusing on the gaming related part of things is why we're all here, so knowing that we're all the same species of humans (the kind that enjoys video games) let's not bite each others heads for small or large differences of opinion regarding matters that are at large subjective. Else this might end up sounding like a fan-boy conversation found at ign's boards
When I first saw those commercials, I also thought they were pretty hillarious. I don't really see what is wrong with them or the stereotype they are portraying.
If you think about it, I belive that the commercials where trying to get to the African Americans and the Mexicans, think of Dave Chapelle, he makes fun of the above races and Anglo Saxons too but people love him, prehaps they see themselves in him. Same as those commercials, maybe (and Im not trying to be racist) African Americans and Mexicans see themselves in it (or a very boasted version of themselves, as obviously not all Blacks and Mexicans talk like that) and find it appealing to buy the PSP. Im still with Yakumo though, the commercials are just really very brainless and make no scense at all.
