    Official changes :
System software stability during use of some features has been improved.
''My PSP has been so unstable the last 3 years, I really need an update to fix it'' - Said no one ever.

Damned if they do, damned if they don't.

People complain when they update the system, and people complain when they don't. Like I wrote, it's good to see it get some love, even if it's minor. Just my 2¢.

Actually the PSP may discontinued in factory making but not dead yet. Sony did not make any announcement saying they will be stop supporting the PSP marketing...unless i been living underrock for last few years.

Actually Europe had the longest support for the PSP. It was only officialy discontinued last month in Europe. You can still easily find a brand new PSP street edition for about 90 EUR.
Some stores still have a PSP Go, but they can't sell them because they are still asking the original 220 EUR price. That's just stupid.

Here in Japan, PSP's are still highly sought after and can go up to 13,000 yen retail. That's around the same price as a 3DS, which just blows my mind completely.

Not touched my PSP in ages, I was never into it that much for PSP games, I have installed CFW on it and used it mainly as a portable retro console, NES/SNES Master System/MegaDrive emulators.

Gos are still somewhat expensive in Canada, I paid around $140 for mine, like new in box, with the charging dock and the official blue leather case. I dropped another $30 on the official component cable, and I'll probably buy another dock and ac adapter so I can have a dock permanently connected to my TV.

The funny think is, I think Gos were actually a little cheaper before they were able to have a permanent CFW installed, the digital download only thing put a lot of people off, obviously it's a non-issue once you have CFW. Now that the 6.20 perma-hack is well known, the Go is, in may ways, the best PSP. It suffers a little control-wise compared to the 1000/2000/3000s, but does of course offer the option to control using a PS3 control pad via Bluetooth. The screen, though slightly smaller, is pin-sharp and gorgeous to look at, and the whole unit is a masterpiece of elegant miniaturization, It harkens back to the heyday of the Walkman IMHO, when SONY ruled the world of compact consumer electronics.

Actually, the new high fidelity digital Walkman has some similar styling:

And of course the last of the true walkmans:

    See the family resemblance?

Well i believe PSP Go came to early in 2009. Nobody wants to buy a digital copy than physical disc. Again less people understood how it works. Of course People who loves download privacy copy , knew they won't able to play PSP Go in hacked vesrion.

Today it seems most people like to have the digital copies now. For example steam network and nextflix. Like i said.. i reckon it was too early for PSPgo in those days.

Strange, but Sony has been hacked to pieces over the past few years so it makes sense that they would want to have a thumb on the security of a device that still gets love from Asia.

It could also be a means of curbing exploits on the several devices that run PSP games.

Sony pulled out a lot of stops this Christmas to divert attention from PSP to Vita in Japan. They were running a pretty generous trade-in program the last time I checked.

Is the online multiplayer element of PSN still up in NA, or is it just the Store?

I wouldn't mind a round of Phantasy Star Portable 2 before the last legs of the service fall (current router config is not very PSP-friendly, hence the question)

Hmm... :/ I can't test that out because my network is WPA2, something the PSP doesn't like. In addition, my PSP's screen is acting up and I might send it in. I tried everything and it ain't budging.

Well, Brandish The Dark Revenant was the last game for PSP on the West I guess, maybe the update is something related to this game?

PSP was pretty much dead on the West by 2010/2011, but still got a good support in Japan and even some games were localized.

Many routers have a "WPA2 Mixed" mode which means it will run WPA2 but will drop to WPA ("WPA1") for devices that don't support it.
