I'd buy either the PSP or the DS for 99 dollars. I, right now, am still biased towards DS because I don't have a GBA yet, and that would cover my lack of portable 2D powerhouse by Nintendo. Let's wait and see. E3 is soon.
Sounds odd, and it doesn't seem like anyone else has heard similar regarding the PSP. I know with the EU anyway that there's some sort of cap's on importing - which is one of the reasons why the larger Japanese electronics and car companies started manufacturing some of their stuff within the EU during the 70s and 80s. I dunno what US laws are regarding this kind of stuff, though similarly there are certain Hondas, Toyotas and other Japanese stuff built in the USA - only the crap models though! Honda Civic Coupe? Bweh!
Oooh...this sorta slipped my mind...maybe she was talking about this: http://games.slashdot.org/games/05/03/27/2119206.shtml?tid=212&tid=123&tid=155
I bought one, no dead pixels and amazing graphics. Didn't really buy it for the games though, mostely for House of Flying daggers UMD next month...and some of the other functions...but i hear Nippon Ichi is making a game for it woot
That's weird. Anyway, i think i'll buy 2 or 3 Dual Shock 2 controllers as backups. The one i got with the system still works 100%, but since it seems they won't make more for USA ( Which i doubt anyway) i'll keep them for the case i need someday.
yeah that money Sony has to pony up should sting, but its a valid patent. Sony didnt like when people tried to emulate PS games on the dreamcast. For them to bitch about this is hypocritical. They should have signed a licensing agreement like everyone else. Maybe they can make their money back by buying into that company like microsoft did.
Ah, yeah that's probably it. Stupid wife I asked if it was PSP and she said yes. I'll have to tell here the difference between PSP and PS2 Yakumo
I'd buy one if I had the money, and once the hardware is improved. Like, you know, not using the reject parts from the factory.
Jesus, it's been commonly acceptable for TFT LCD screen manufacturers to allow screens with a certain amount of dead pixels ever since they started making them - THIS IS NOTHING NEW, nor is it anything specific to Sony or the PSP. It's just handheld consoles have never had screens this sophisticated up until now. Take for example the GBA - it only has 38,400 pixels - which was probably according to Sharp's QC standards was below their threshold for allowing dead pixels in such an area. Quit yer bitchin' - you're either gonna have to live with occasional dead pixels, or LCD screens that cost significantly more! There's no happy medium until the technology gets cheaper to produce.
I honestly can't believe people are defending this. We're being sold defective product and too many of you are just capitulating and saying it's unavoidable, would be too expensive to screen etc. Fuck that, of course dead pixels are nothing new but that doesn't mean they're acceptable in this kind of frequency.
Facts are facts. Sony used cheap screens. The DS did not have this high a rate of returns AND Nintendo went the extra mile by allowing people to return them for dead pixels. NO LCD screens I've ever used in my life have had any dead pixels. Not any Game Boys, Lap Tops, TVs, anything.
I honestly cant belive you dont seem to understand we are not saying its ok... we are saying that its unavoidable to make a lcd screen without there being a chance of a dead pixel.... What sony does it about it, thats what you can complain about. So your saying nothing else has a dead pixel? Also theres a large difference in the DS screens and the PSP screens.
I don't what you're trying to get out of complaining about this. They could have either sold the PSP for $250 with a threshold of 1-3 dead pixels (or whatever the threshold is) like they are, or sell the PSP for $300-400 (or possibly even more - I'm just guessing here!) with no tolerance for dead pixels. I remember Sony saying before the PSP went into production that they were going to use poorer quality screens than first planned due to the inhibitive costs of said screens. At the current state of things, it would be totally impossible for Sony to sell 100% perfect screens in the PSPs at this price! At least they'll actually give you a replacement if you're not happy with a screen with dead pixels. They're not obliged at all to do this. Sony have stated in the documentation that there's a possibility that there can be dead pixels, therefore the product is AS DESCRIBED. Legally, there's nothing defective about them.
If you've never seen any Dead Pixels on an LCD screen you've either been *incredibly lucky* or you've not dealt with very many LCD panels. I've seen them across the board on everything from HiDef TVs, to laptops, to game consoles, to PDAs, to monitors, etc. etc. -hl718
Yes, it's a lot cheaper to make 2 screens than one, and even with the two combined the DS screens only make up 98,304 pixels, compared to the PSP's 130,560. Sony probably used better quality screens than Nintendo's too...
the thing is, I have a sony LCD monitor with no dead pixels..and it was relatively cheap. Sony can make quality screens, they just chose not to use them with the psp.
Do you know how long that LCD monitor you have has been made and the difference between that LCD monitor and the one the psp uses... Also my samsung monitor 17" LCD has not a single dead pixel. It cost somewhere in the region of over $1000 when it first came out. If i search on the web i can find people with dead pixels on them... amazing! Oh and Jonny the fact that the PSP doesnt use a Sony LCD screen is also another thing you should think about. ps: i also have a psp with no dead pixels
