I wired up the correct pins, and still no video. I grounded the VGA's chassis to the MULTI-AV's chassis, as well as the ground for the SYNC it has on the schematic in the link above. Does it need to be installed with the correct drivers in order for it to produce a video out????
For me, all 3 of my DTL-H2000's powered up on a computer with a fresh, driver-less install of windows 98se. Even my problematic one powered up. You might have to adjust the jumpers (switches) on yours... For testing, What I did was take a single composite cable, cut off one of the yellow ends, strip the center wire (should be like a coaxial cable, one insulated cable within another cable) and stick said wire into the correct hole in the dtl board (didnt even bother with the video ground) and the intact end of the composite cable connected to a tv like normal. I know Im terrible at verbally explaining things... so here's me putting my artistic skills to the test... (attached picture)
Thank you. That is a lot better When I plug it in now, (the pins are confirmed now to be 100% correct) I still get nothing. I get a slight flicker (like a quick refresh) when I plug the SYNC in, but no picture or anything at all. Need those dip switch setting ASAP! *EDIT* Also, here is the cable. Single composite cable (used the left audio, white because there all the same) bypassing my MULTI-AV to VGA box I made (images / seen above). I got the GROUND from the composite cable going to pin 8 on the DTL (center pin center row), and the SYNC (video) going to pin 7.
Okay, I got SOME results just now. I get a flickering refresh rate now on the TV. Like when the PS1 sets the mode from 50 hertz to 60 hertz or NTSC to PAL. So it's like it is waiting for something... I found a broken trace during some inspections on the board. I repaired it of course. It seemed like a ground connection, so it was tying something low or grounding it. It looked as if it was cut on purpose... Dont know why. Also checked the IRQ / DMA settings. I need to still manage to get Windows 98 to detect it and get it running. Just doing a defrag on my 98 PC because it has slowed down a bit on startup (stupid 98 Plus)...
The broken trace you found is supposed to be cut I think, look at the scan of the board at http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/e7/DTL-H2000-CPU2_01.jpg And a scan of my board: Before installing the boards, did you look for free resources to assign to the board with the various jumpers(irq/dma/IO)?
Huh, I better remove the solder bridge I just added then! How do I know if I have free resources? At the moment, it says 'no conflicts' in Windows 98. I set the jumpers to IRQ10 DMA5 and the IO switched were the same as the Japanese manual link I got from you Unclejun.
Well I dunno. I removed the solder bridge and still no coloured bars... Here are some screenshots of my Windows 98 SE PC...
You must've done something right if you got it to show up in device manager, I never could do that with the h2000. Can you use the sn file server to run .cpe samples?
No. It is NON plug and play remember like (I think) ASSEMbler mentioned on page 1. It comes down to IRQ and DMA! I added the driver by going to Control Panel > Install Hardware (or whatever). It should then find it because it looks at that particular IRQ / DMA address.
Here is a photo of my BIOS settings I set for the DTL. Notice how I set IRQ10 and DMA 5 to LEGACY ISA. This is correct yes? This is what my jumper settings are.
Run msinfo32, you'll get a list of used and free resources. Could you try running dexbios (with the correct parameters) in pure dos mode instead of using windows drivers?
I will try to run msinfo32 now. I would like to run dexbios, but I cant find it. Things are missing and out of order I believe, as I have FATIGUES rip from snesorama.
Here are my dipswitch / jumper settings... Also reuploded (to my server for a good backup) the Japanese manuals Jumper Settings, IO Settings and IRQ Settings (thank you Unclejun!). As you can see, I need to move the DMA over to DMA5, which is the far right pins, on the bottom 4x3 row. I have done this, so dont worry.
Dexbios.com should be in pssn\bin\ When installing the windows driver, did you edit the PSX95ISA.INF wich is in PSX\DECI\PSX95ISA? The IRQConfig= line is commented out by default, you have to modify it. Quote of the setup_e.txt from the DECI directory: A-4. Specifying the I/O Address and the IRQ Copy deci\psx95isa to an appropriate location on the hard disk. Double click the deci\psx95isa\psx95isa.inf in the copied files. Find the line beginning with ;IRQConfig= If an IRQ is to be used, first delete the initial ; then enter the board setting such as 10, 12, 15 (e.g., IRQConfig=10). If an IRQ is not used, leave the ; as is. A line beginning with IOConfig= should appear next. Specify the I/O address in this line, as in IOConfig=1240-124b(3ff: The initial values are set to IRQ: none, I/O address: 1340.
Yes I did that: IRQConfig=10 However, I did not do the other one: IOConfig= What do I put here? Not 1240-124b, but 1340-134b as seen in the IO Japanese config from the DTL's manual (above)? IE: it has 0 x 134 as the dipswitch settings. I have the same settings as mine as well.
DEXBIOS IS NOT IN C:\pssn\bin on my system!!!! DEXBIOS says when I run it with the commands: c:\pssn\ps\bin\dexbios.com /a1340 /i10 DEXBIOS version 1.27 Installed OK - card address 1340, Interrupt 10 The manual then says to edit the line (within C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT) to accept those details. However, that line is nowhere to be found, which puts me back to saying that the FATIGUE rip of the 'PSXSDK' (correctly known as the Sony Programmers Tool CD-ROM) has been ripped wrong and is missing files. Why would someone rip a CD-ROM, and remove the important stuff, like SETUP.exe that should have set this all up for me? My AUTOEXEC.BAT file has: PATH C:\PROGRA~1\WIN98RK;%PATH%;"c:\ps\psx\bin" SET SN_PATH=c:\ps\psx\bin I then added: C:\ps\pssn\bin\dexbios /a1340 /i10 however, I added a rem to that because it would not let Windows 98 boot. Even if I removed the rem and proceeded with the INSTALL.PDF, boot into DOS only, and run 'resetps 1' and then try to run 'run /w5 c:\ps\pssn\snpatch.cpe', I get Cannot connect to target. Even if I try changing the timer from 5 to 10 (IE: run /w10 c:\ps\pssn\snpatch.cpe') I get Cannot connect to target. So I have no idea what on earth is wrong. But I am about to give out, call quits and sell the damn things.
