    Hi,

with my TOOL finally being opened, I have some doubts whether or not I have a dtl-t14k board inside it, despite the facts that I have 2 harddrives.

First hdd is connected to the pci pentium board as primary master and boots linux without any problem.
The second hdd was connected to the board behind the pentium board on a gray ide connector, it obviously didn't show up in the bios.
I connected it on the pentium board and well, linux booted too...

I found that there is room for a 3rd hdd on the hdd rack thingie, so I need a few answers from people in the know:

Why is my 2nd hdd bootable if it's supposed to be the emu hdd?
What does the dtl-t14k look like once installed?
Does it get connected to a 3rd hdd?
How do you manage the contents of the emu hdd?
When the TOOL boots with the dvd/emu switch set to emu, how do you use it? what reset parameters should be used for the EE and IOP?

If you have any pictures of the t14k, please post them, thanks.

And if you have the software to manage the hdd's contents, please PM me.

Unclejun, if it's any consulation when I visited the recycle shop in Hamilton (Stewart Recycling) there were two computer engineers who had a quick look within the Tool case and they themselves were baffled as to the manner in which Sony had devised their system. I seemed to defy their PC based knowledge.

My unit is set up precisely the same as yours, so as far as your unit goes I am certain you have all the necessary / original hardware. I can't help regarding the BOOT HDD as I am awaiting the answer to your questions too!

My EMU HDD is connected on that secondary grey HDD, the boot on the PCI card IDE. I noticed the slot internally for a 3rd drive. No idea why that would be useful.

Another PS2 Tool owner in America has also confirmed that his unit is exactly the same as my unit, but I would need to ask him about the HDD's.

Let me know what you find out. I am now off to bed as I've had one hell of a busy week. Catch you later!

    >Why is my 2nd hdd bootable if it's supposed to be the emu hdd?
nope , emu HDD will be number 3

    >What does the dtl-t14k look like once installed?
It goes inside PCI slots and therefore you can see if emu is installed on non opened TOOL

    >Does it get connected to a 3rd hdd?
    yes

    >How do you manage the contents of the emu hdd?
you have to install soft on the TOOL AND Windows desktop PC

    >When the TOOL boots with the dvd/emu switch set to emu, how do you
use it? what reset parameters should be used for the EE and IOP?
I manage this from Software that came with emu

    :)

about software , not sure what HDD do you want to manage, emu one ?

Alas Unclejun & I are without emulation HDD in that case. Lacking the necessary 14k card. I only realised this when I found the image I posted here for Unclejun, although I thought that the unit allowed for emulation without the card. Little did I know.

In that case, can I ask DevL what use is the 2nd HDD? And is it meant to be connected to the additional IDE line (the one coming off the motherboard).

You mentioned you can change the manner in which the unit works using Software. What alternative functions can the 2nd HDD perform? Curious as I have yet to get the unit I have actually booting up.

    Thanks in advance!

it goes in between one card on the top of motheboard and motheboard itself, this white connector will show proper location,

I have made some photos when I inserted mine T14K and I can try to find it, I had recently problem with my desktop PC

it is a good point about second existing HDD in the TOOL,
here I am not 100% sure but
TOOL has two working modes called WS and TOOL and these HDDs AFAIK related to this.

T14K has nothing to do with these existing 2 HDDs :icon_bigg

Thanks DevL for confirmation of my thoughts when I first see the picture of the t14k.
Parris, I was searching the snsys website and you found the file I miss...

I'll boot my Tool in WS mode to see what happen.

Unclejun, no problem! Only too happy to help when I can as you've been doing most of the work so far finding information. Let me know how you get on when you have looked at the BOOT hdd.

I am still no further forward. Been busy with work. Hopefully I can get it running again shortly.

you guys are farther along than I. After being able to login I used the apache on it to run a internal web server for my house. I also upgraded the cpu But finding the board was the tricky part.
