I am going to chalk up some of his wierdness to his rough upbringing and that he never matured. He was a gentle nieve child til the end and Children make mistakes.

Perhaps all the kids at never land were not kids to him but rather peers.

When you're that naive people are going to take advantage of it. One family got $20 million because of it.

    exactly.

I wonder what will happen to this generation. I mean, with some little exceptions, the whole music industry it's all garbage!

I was actually discussing this with some friends of mine a couple of weeks ago. Apart from some good indie bands, i don't think i like any "new" band or artist that was "launched" on this decade!

My friends even said we were sounding like Krusty on that Simpsons "MyPod" episode.

exactly right. but not just since today. that started already a quite long tome ago. may be some peeps call me sometimes "stuck in time", but dear god, for hell good reasons. and not just for the musics.
where will this all end? almost any media are saturated and abused to its sheer max.

I was talking with some friends much to our disgust Britney and Eminem were all we could come up with. and neither have had the impact the people I mentioned have.

It's true though music in the last decade has sucked not in a weird 1980s way either. It's like the same band is recording under many names.

On the subject of not being any "Icons" in the past decade of music, I urge you to check out Matt Bellamy and the band Muse. IMO an amazing guitarist and band, definately one of the best live shows a human could ever see in their life ( once again, IMO). All i can say is look up a live performance of the songs "Stockholm Syndrome", "Hysteria" or "New Born" and prepare to be floored ( or think it sucks:lol:. Everyone likes different shit.)

Sorry to jack your thread MJ.

Got a text msg from a friend saying he's dead, first thought it was a joke but as I turned on the car radio every station was talking about it...

I'm still quite shocked atm :(
one of my all-time icons and favorite performers... RIP

What a shitty way of ending my birthday, I will always remember (or be remembered) of this in every upcoming birthday.

Today is indeed a very sad day. It's just one of those things that you thought would never happen. I mean, Michael Jackson, dead! He was the most known person on the planet bar none! He was the icon of the world. Yes, he was odd and did questionable things (Which may or maynot be fully true) but just think about how you'd change if you were him.

His music in the 80's and early 90's will live on forever. R.I.P. M. Jackson. Only yesterday I was thinking of renting out his History CD and now he's dead. Unbelievable!

As you said Yakumo he was the most known person in the world. Whether you like his songs or not everybody knew who he was. I discovered him in 1996 with "History" and I loved it! Hell yeah he was so good!

From what I know of all of the above (which I admit isn't amazingly extensive) the only ones above that I would say human kind is much worse off without is John Lennon. I'm not a Beatles fan in the least, but the man had great ideas.

    A must see:
    I Met the Walrus

The rest, while not bad people, I will never really think of as anything other than popular musicians. I love Elvis, but his music is very far down the list of "music that has shaped me". The rest aren't on the list at all, and I was in college when Seattle grunge reared it's head.

Also it's strange, they say bad luck always comes in three's.

    Guess that completes it:

Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett, and Michael Jackson

A shocker all right, another chunk of my 80's childhood has left the stage, I think that is why it affects people of a certain age so much.

My first MJ memory is when the Thriller video was played on UK TV for the first time, the flash dad of one of my mates had recorded it on video (these wern't everywhere in 1984) and we all went to watch it. My brother who would have been five was with me and managed to mess with the record button and record whatever bang in the middle of the song! I remember his Mum saying how pissed his Dad would be, I made my excuses and off we went!

I also love the Cafe 80's scene in BTTF2 - I think that scene better sums up the 80's for me that anything else in the world! Jackson, Regan, Khomeini, Nintendo! The bit where he comes on Max Hedroom style to take Marty's order is just incredible!

It is all a bit tarnished by the last 15 years... I feel bad saying it, but as he has died young anyway, it would have been better had he bowed out after the release of Dangerous, then he would have been a pure genius who died at a young age.

    RIP Jacko.

I got admit this morning I wasn't sure if it was true cause tmz was the first to report it and sometimes they miss report deaths. Crazy I'll say. Ed Mc man and Michael Jackson back to back is intense. Fara Faucet too.

The guy definitely had dance move I don't think anyone will be able to ever perfectly emulate at all. His music videos were an event everyone had to tune into on tv (hell he had john landis direct two of his videos!). I'll never forget seeing black & white premier on tv and shocked he got norm from cheers(George Wendt) and Macaulay Culkin in the same video.

The tv movie based on his life was also very good as well as reveling why he ended up in the mental state he was in his later life. Either way this is a great icon that is lost, he influenced many and I doubt there will ever be another like him. RIP Mr. Jackson.

This was one of the first games i ever played. There used to be this little cafe next to the bus stop where my aunt lived and i would always end up playing a game or two before getting the bus with my mom.
