After seeing very pricy items for other SEGA consoles such as Delisoba Deluxe, the online games for Mega Drive or Prototype Carts for MarkIII, I asked myself if theres something beyond Border Down and Samba de Amigo for Dreamcast. No Beta- or Prototype-Stuff (I know that Propeller Arena-Betas still sell for a lot of money) but retail or Hibaihin-games. The most expensive item I know is a factory sealed Border Down LE (~250$) and a Samba de Amigo PAL Bigbox (~180$). /EDIT Dammit, I made a mistake which I really wanted to avoid before creating this thread. The headline shall say "Most expensive Dreamcast-game" instead of "Rarest" -_- Thanks in advance for correcting that.
Don't mention Geist Force ! I want that so badly ! As for retail games I'd say Boarder Down isn't that expensive or rare. It's just another case of the Radiant Silvergun syndrome. On of the most rare Dreamcast games are the Kapital (SP?) series which were sort of like an interactive suspense drama. They were released near the beginning of the DCs life only through Dreamcast Direct (Now called Sega Direct). Just one disc on Yahoo Japan can fetch about 14'000 yen ! and there are 6 of them from what I remember. Yakumo
Wasn't there some bangaio-version that was worth a whole lot of money? edit: Not a beta that is edit2: Found the name of it. Bangai-O: Prize Edition position 5 on this list http://www.racketboy.com/retro/2006/10/holy-grails-of-console-game-collecting.html
but you can't buy that. I think the main question is what is the rarest game you can actually buy. Yakumo
There are only a fraction of Border Down in print compared to RS. I believe there were 5000 of the LE, and 3000 of the original (or maybe vice versa) then maybe another 5000 of the regular edition printed soon after... in a matter of weeks if memory serves. Either way, it sold out immediately. The DC was still somewhat alive then so those are pretty low numbers. I wouldn't be surprised if current DC releases see numbers around those. Either way, it is ATM the highest price retail game. Cleopatra Fortune & Masapey no Choco Marker are both pretty hard to come by. I'm sure Lodoss War, Napple Tale, and Zero Gunner 2 would've been comprable had they not had Dorikore versions printed. Lodoss War was running 10,000 yen in Akiba when the reprint came out. The other two in the 6,000 yen range. De La Jet Set Radio Dorikore version is a weird one. I've seen it fetch 7,000 yen, but is always good for at least 3,000, which is good for a reprint of a remixed game. The DLJSR Limited Edition is probably harder to find than any of the above. My personal favorite DC item.
How much does the DLJSR LE usually go for? I neeeed it edit: Also, how much does Cleopatra Fortune go for in Japan now? 7-8000yen or something? I think it's the only arcade puzzler I'm missing for the dreamcast so should look into getting that as well.
hahaha, it's not born yet  I'd be interested in those Kapitel discs Adol but some how I think you'll want more than I'm willing to pay. I've seen them for 3000 yen a pop factory sealed here in Japan alas when I had no money ! Isn't that always the way. As for Boarder Down, Manga Soko in Kitakyushu sells the normal Edition for 5800 yen ! Lodoss War you can get anywhere for under 3000 yen. Another case of Akihabara madness there on prices. The other two, Napple Tale, and Zero Gunner 2 are also not too expensive down here at 3000 odd each. Now Cleopatra Fortune & Masapey no Choco Marker I have NEVER seen in this area of Japan in over 3 years. I guess it all depends upon where you live (Even in Japan) Akihabara has always been over priced (well especially in the last 6 years or so) but does have the harder to find stuff. Yakumo
I saw Cleopatra Fortune for about 8000yen if I remember correctly inside one of those glass thingies at Trader4 (at least I think that was where it was) when I was in Tokyo... I somewhat regret not buying it :/ edit: The dreamcast version that is. The saturn version seem easier to find.
Yes, the Dreamcast-version of Cleopatra Fortune is very rare indeed. I used to look for it a few months ago, but resigned. I think its almost impossible to find via ebay if not contacting people in Japan to get it for you. And what about Orange Pocket? I remember seeing it for sale for 90$ (sealed).
Read my post again. They were at those prices before the Dorikore versions were released. They can be found for the prices you listed on YJ & Akiba quite regularly. Re: Cleopatra Fortune. The DC version does seem to be the hardest to find. BUT... it's not port of the Noami game. The Naomi game is, if anything, a port of it as it came out later. Here is a thread that has some info in it, but don't take it as gospel. As it were, the Naomi version seems to be impossibly hard to find --- rarer than any DC release.
Sorry mate. I thought it said even though the Dorikore versions were released. Does the Dorikore version of Lodoss Wars use the same package but with a sticker on it or is it another of those cheap looking image surrounded by a white boarder effort? Personally I like SNK's re-released stuff with completely different packing. They did it with some of the KOF games and Last Blade if I remember correctly. Not if you don't live in Japan it isn't. To me though it's a bit expensive then you've got shipping on top of that. Are they factory sealed by the way? Yakumo
I could say the opposite: for an european buyer,he'd save shipping since the games are already in Europe. Then you "save shipping" on top of that. They're not factory sealed no..but i don't ask 14000 yens for each of them either
Thanks for the offer Adol but I think I'll pass. The price isn't too bad but I could get the cheaper here if I'm patient. I'm sure you'll be able to sell them at that price to someone in the west easily  Yakumo
