I never said they were not the same games But since they have different barcodes AND different aspect ( dorikore sticker as minimum) they are NOT the same products. Their release dates are different, number of copies produced is different as well... Just check Sega website. As simple as that.
Yes, I am aware of that if I was specifically looking to collect every variation of titles available on the system. The point that is being made, however, is that a person out to get the game, and not all variations of it, would not know the difference unless they researched it, as you have. I am not doubting the products are counted as seperate in the eyes of a collector, but we are talking about someone who is in store and finds the game, without the seal/sticker. They don't know the barcode difference, so they cannot differentiate between the two versiosn without having direct reference to one or the other to compare barcodes. I'll agree that if I was specifically set on finding the dorikore version, I would research it online first. But thats not the context we are talking in
As the Deathcoaster said. Without anything other than a different barcode practically no one except for the hardcore collector would be able to tell the difference or care between the original and Dorekore release. The First few Dorekore releases all did have different style covers so they are easy to spot and in my eyes count as a different game just like the SNK Best Buy series. They look like normal releases but do have different cover art with the new cover art actually being more of an improvement. Just see here from KOF '99 Evolution. NORMAL RELEASE BEST BUY RELEASE Yakumo
You're talking about a FRAUD context:the shop removes the sticker..why would they do that? Because original is more valuable. Otherwise, there would be NO reason to do so. That's not a "valid" context at all, don't you think?
I think you are misunderstanding TheDeathcoster, Adol. He probably means in used game stores where it's going to be a 99% chance that the game no longer has the sticker due to the previous owner binning it. Yakumo
But you would be wrong. Take a look at YJ. Nobody even LISTS if games are Dorikore versions or not unless they are sealed. Nobody asks either. Cheap. 1000 yen is overpaying. There was a time when you could get $50 for it on Ebay. That time is passed. The Famitsu version though, can get pricey in both regions. I paid about 3500 yen for mine which has a very nasty, visible crease on it.. a bit one too.
what i always wondered: is there any difference between the famitsu and the "common" version of What´s Shenmue besides the different covers? are there additional famitsu related textures or even objectives in the famitsu one? another question. hope i don´t sound too stupid, but what is "what's shen mue-hibaihin"? the common version?
Ok,you're talking about "a previous owner binning it" In that case,i agree with all of you. I was talking about the game being on the shelves when it comes out.
I was talking about brand new games, not used ones. In that case,i fully agree. But whatever can be said, they ARE different products for many reasons: - Different barcode number - Different release date - Dorikore sticker,if not even more (different cover etc..) - Different figures concerning their release That makes 4 unarguable reasons, making them DIFFERENT PRODUCTS, Period (yes i like to argue)
-Never said they were the same -Was only talking about used (and stated that pretty clearly in my first post) -I like to argue too sometimes Only the covers are different. In fact, it's just the front cover. The non-famitsu version has the light blue found in the normal. "Hibaihin" means "not for sale". For all intents and purposes, it's a promo.
This thread has vanished for too long. Within the past couple of days I've stumbled across quite a few games I think I've not seen that often for sale. Hundred Swords - @barai Edition. Anyone know what this might be worth? It's one of the (probably) few DC games I really didn't know about yet. Grauen no Torimago - Kapitel 1. What's this worth in sealed condition (one crack on the front though, but no suntan). I just bought it in another forum because I think I'll never see one for that price again, opened even. Does German language occur during the game or is it just one of those "we calling japanese game no engrish butt german name cuz so cool"^^-games?
I'm glad I have a copy of border down, it's the crown jewel of my game collection. Zero Gunner 2 as well.
I'm not sure how well known this is, but there's been a ... well, let's just call it a misprint, of the Last Hope LE. Afair exactly 3 of those were sold, and 2 of them were returned to RSG due to certain problems.
It's a doujin release anyway... I don't think it quite counts. The Grauen games are generally ~6000 each last time I checked. Not sure about sealed + cracked. Haven't been keeping up at all.
Hm, it is a game and it does run on the DC, so I'd say it's a DC game, and the thread title is 'Rarest Dreamcast-game?' after all.
It may not be the best game out there, but I'm going to have to toss in Super Boom Tread Troopers as amongst the rarest. It was originally distributed as a cover mount on the Official DC mag in the US. I don't believe it was ever released in Japan or Europe. Tracking down copies also doesn't seem to be the easiest task out there. -hl718
Do you mean the game as in demo disc vol.9? Or do you mean the game actually got a limited release as a standalone disc?
So if I code a screen that says "Hello World!" and it moves around w/ the controller and slap it on a CD-R, making only one copy, that would be the rarest game. It's a game and does run on the DC, after all.
