Yes. It was an early tech demo thrown together to demonstrate some concepts. I guess they liked it, but decided to move it to their new add-on, 32x.
It would be very interesting to look through the ROM and compare it to Sonic Crackers. Very interesting indeed!
So... just for clarification. Is this Sonic Crackers or do you have something post-crackers/pre-32X? Sounds very interesting either way... any screens?
This is Sonic Crackers. I can take a pic of the cart if you are interested. For those who don't know, Sonic Crackers was the first build of Knuckles Chaotix, before it got converted to 32x.
Same here! I think like ASSEMBler says though we should wait till a bit after the sonic xtreme project is over.
Knuckles Chaotix, 13 different beta builds?!?!?! I love this community more and more everyday. The 3D intro artwork looks very colorful. h:
Count me in for donations when the Xtreme project is all wrapped up . Also could you give us some more information about the versions you have and any documentation etc?
Yeah I recall those images from a february 95 mag, and the name ringstar too (even when the title screen already said Chaotix). I thought sonic crackers was a techdemo and not an early build, since it only shows the physics concept but not much more...
I thought the same thing. It seemed more of a techdemo that eventually led to the creation of it. But I am sure there is leftovers from Sonic Crackers in Knuckles Chaotix... Maybe. :icon_bigg
I am closing this discussion for a period of one week until we get sonic xtreme settled and done. Then we will discuss this game.
The sprites for Sonic were changed into Mighty the Armadillo and various levels and music were used in Chaotix - http://www.randomsonicnet.org/srz/index.php?page=sonicc/odd2.htm Some interesting things on that site.
Nifty lil' site. Thanks for posting. His analysis on Crackers is pretty cool too. Wonder why they didnt use the Sonic 2 Sprites instead of Sonic 1's...
Didnt you guys know? check this: From Sonic Cult: Try knuckles Chaotix sometime. Mighty has the exact same moves and very similar sprites as compared to sonic 2 and Sonic Crackers. All of Mighty's sprites match up to this spritesheet from Sonic Crackers, including sprite graphics NOT used in Crackers that STILL match up with moves in the final version of Chaotix: They [SEGA] should've leave Sonic in the game and name the whole thing Sonic Chaotix or just Sonic4 (since S&K was more like an expansion pack for Sonic3).
