Remember when we had reasons to own one system over another?

At least try and be objective.

This channel does some good side-by-side graphic comparisons of XBOX/PS3 games.

    Shows FPS and Screen Tear.

It just comes down to the games. If there's a game I REALLY want to play, I'll find a way to play it.

I honestly don't feel like I'm missing out on much by not owning a PS3. I have such a backlog of 360 games. Plus all my classic consoles. Adding the PS3 to the mix doesn't make much sense. It'll just make me fall even more behind.

When people do these side by side things I NEVER see a difference EVER

So people saying X game look better on PS3 than 360 is just fanboy rambling.

    SPEAKING OF INCOHERENT FANBOY RAMBLING

    1. WHO CARES how many discs a 360 game is? Seriously

    2. 300 MS does not= $10 500 MS points does. Also who cares Yes Microsoft points are retarded but at least there is regional Uniformity in how much a game is.

    3. OH LA-DE-DA a 7 core CPU and what great advantages does that have?
Last I knew people still had trouble taking full advantage of it, the thing was a goddamn programing Rubicks Cube.

    4. PS3 has yet to be pushed to it's Limits? 360 has already? and you know this HOW? Again Who cares games now look great and as long as both consoles have great games who cares?

    5. PSN is better than XBOX live? How did your parents credit card info hold up when PSN was hacked?

    6. Last I knew LA Noire looked great on Both systems. But it was the PS3 version that had the fatal glitch that needed to be patched.

Thanks for being a great example of PS3 fanboys being retards.

At least 360 fans when they make their claims about the 360 being better than PS3 it has nothing to do with the hardware but THE GAMES.

REMEMBER Fanboy retard it's not about what's under the hood it's about THE GAMES and PS3 has great games and great Exclusives and so does the 360. I just chose the 360 because it's just a little bit more hardcore.

    This is it for me.

    Though if I had a 50" HDTV I'd totally buy a PS3. For Blu-ray movies.

The 68000 was "ancient"? It's not like the SNES CPU was state-of-the-art, it's based on a processor that's only a few years newer than the 68000, plus the MD processor was faster anyway.
You wanna talk about ancient stuff, how about the x86 architecture that all PCs (and Macs too, nowadays) are running on even today...

Even within the same game there are differences as you'll see in ESPgaluda II

If I am not mistaken wasn't the 68000 about 8-9 years old by the time SNK/Sega
stuck it in the Neo Geo and Genesis/Mega Drive?

Why yes yes it was. It was introduced in 1979 and implmented into the Genesis/Neo Geo in 1990/1989

    10 year old processors.....

    yep

Reading the first post, weren't you asking for excuses we used to give to chose one platform over another?
In which case I chose the gamecube over xbox and ps2 because I didn't have the money to buy a dreamcast when it came out and by the time I had the money it was all over. But gamecube had sonic adventure 2 and loads of dreamcast ports plus new sega developments. I was also partial to a bit of zelda and mario so it was the obvious choice.
I also bought a Ps2 last because all my friends were rabid Sony fanboys and to buy a ps2 was to admit defeat to them. I was right not to bother with the Ps2 until they were cheap too, all mine does is serve as a dreamcast stand haha

Yeah, but the SNES CPU was based on a processor from 1982, so it wasn't really "ancient" compared to that. Besides, isn't clock speed the thing that really matters in most cases? After all, our "ancient" processor technology is pretty fast now.

I LOVE the GameCube, it had the same kind of Niche games the Dreamcast and a few other fun ones. I still buy games for it from time to time though my retro focus is right now on the Dreamcast.

Of the last Gen systems the last one I got was the PS2 and I only got my PS2 AFTER I got my 360.

The PS2 may have every game known to man But the Dreamcast/Gamecube/XBOX will always have those nice niche games that just doesn't feel right on Sony hardware.

Seriously it's just fucked up playing NIGHTS on the PS2

To be honest, I didn't even know they released Nights on the ps2 and I'm glad I didn't know, playing nights just wouldn't be the same without that chunky saturn controller thing. I have a friend who has something like 200 gamecube games and everytime we go game shopping he comes home with about 10 more, whenever I go to his house I stare enviously at his pile of games. I don't have enough gamecube games. Funnily enough, my current retro focus is also the Dreamcast.

For this generation, when I got my xbox 360, ps3s cost around £500 for the unit alone, my xbox was £150 with three games and all my friends had live, was a bit of a no brainer. Also, viva pinata was a very persuasive argument

PS2 Nights was Japan only It's a good port with Widescreen support but it's just not the same.

Living The UK, you're lucky. Alot of games came out in Europe but not here. I'll probably make burns of the Dreamcast Euro exclusives, But I want the Whole NTSC set or at least most of it, No Licensed shit.

So no crappy movie/cartoon/game show tie in games

"You people don't watch me to see me succeed, you all want to see me fail"

Did you not hear that quote? or maybe it was in another episode.

Clock speed doesn't indicate performance unless you're comparing two of the same thing. The 65816 is only about 25% slower for basic instructions despite being clocked around 35% of the 68000. In the SNES' high speed mode basic instructions are just as fast as the 68000. The 65816 shines with 8-bit logic algorithms, the 68000 shines with 16-bit+ math. 65816 instructions are encoded in 8-bits and are 8-bits wide so the ROMs are cheaper affording games more space for resources. Many 68000 instructions on the other hand do more work so it's easier to program and there's a lot of speed savings with large algorithms. The Genesis' real speed advantage however is because:

-the VDP is more basic than the SNES' so there are less parameters to set
-there's higher bandwidth access to it via the 68000's 16-bit bus
-the 68000 can easily access large data structures

Nintendo delivered a superior console in most respects with cheaper hardware leading to a "deficiency" (it's relative) in speed. If memory costs weren't so high they might have clocked the '816 significantly higher which would have ended the debate long ago.
