Remove the NeoGeo section.

When I first joined here it was because this was the place of the best of the best. The gamers with most knowledge on hardware and software.
The greatest community ever build.
I made tons of friends here and this forum became the main page on my browser and on my phone.
I keep refreshing new posts during classes and I never had a single fight or argument here.
People are polite, caring and most of all they have patience with me that didn't had the knowledge most of known members here have.
This is changing thanks to this particular forum.

But all this changes when you enter the NeoGeo section.
That section was the reason for the spam attacks.
That section is more like a ego shelf and a big store.
That section even when people try to do something nice turn into a fight.

I was going to post a poll here asking who here agree with me to remove the section but I remembered this isn't a democracy.
This forum is a nice virtual get together place that Assembler build for all of us.

That's why I'm asking, Assembler, could you please, remove the Neo Geo section from this forum?
Do you think much content or users will go away from here just because it's lacking a NeoGeo section?
I honestly don't think so. I believe the impact would be minimum on the user base.

So.. what do you think?

 

A white list might be a better idea. Don't cooperate=no posting access.

Don't forget about Zed Blade. Borderline seizure-inducing graphics and an awesome soundtrack are a great mix of things.

 

I think it is a shame to remove the Neo Geo section because a lot of the Neo Geo community are cartoons.

Actually, a good number of Neo Geo owners seem quite sensible. It is just the handful who either like the sound of their own voice, talk out of their arse or their sheep who are not.

Despite all of the problems it has caused, the Neo geo subsection has actually been a good source of entertainment for myself and others too.

I'm not really a fan of the Neo Geo platform or SNK, the area of the forum is basically dead most of the time anyway but I think it is useful to keep around for a rainy day. After all, it would be a shame to ruin it for the handful of people who actually care about the system because of a few bad apples.

It hasn't been all bad either. _SD_ asked for a Neo Geo Pocket Color flashcart. Flavor then designed and built one and is now selling them on www.flashmasta.com Would this success story have existed without the Neo Geo subsection? Possibly, but not here. Assembler members have the right balance of wishfull thinking and technical skill to make such projects happen.

If Dion didn't appear here he would have appeared elsewhere. Think what you like about him, whether you love him or loathe him or think he is a snake - he has been good for generating new views and some of his posts are actually interesting too. I particularly liked the hour or so long video interview he did for another site. There is no such thing as bad publicity.

You can sweep the mess under the carpet, sure but it is much better in the long run to tackle it head on. With that in mind I'd nominate veggav and some others as a Neo Geo sub forum moderators to help turn the subsection around rather than see it closed.

If it was any other subforum I would accept with a big smile on my face but NeoGeo is just too much. I can't take it.
I asked people to be less greedy, to improve the community and people just don't believe NeoGeo can be a nice community as the Dreamcast one.

I hate three basic attitudes on the NeoGeo:

1. Scam but this is basic, robbing somebody is just disgusting.

2. Dick swinging collections: "look what I have and YOU will never get it". Don't get me wrong I love the thread "the most rare thing you own thread" but there you don't offend somebody just because they don't have an edition with a special sticker on it.

3. This is the one that has being getting into my nerves, really bad lately. It's the one: "look how rare this is, see $XXXXX USD! By the way, I'm selling this." Self promotion and raising up your own goods is just too much. Call me naive because I know people do this all the time but... there are a few threads in the NeoGeo section that the same image got posted multiple times. By the way, something that was being sold.

I never saw an everdrive picture here on this forum. Only discussion. The everdrive selling department is in Krikzz/StoneAgeGamer store. They just chat here.
Why the same can't be applied to the NeoGeo?

Anyway, those 3 attitudes tend to create fight and hate for people here in comparison with all the calm and respect that rule the rest of the forum.

Yeah, you proved me wrong with your attitude. The rest of the forum isn't all polite.

I would suggest banning a few people but that wouldn't be ethical so I suggested removing the section because of the reasons I listed above which isn't present on any other part of the forum.

Yes, it is but can we can't ban somebody of this forum just because this persons uses the forum for selling their products.

In my point of view if we all know that a scam is running here we're being accomplice if we let this happens.
People went over Yakumo and Assembler just because of the Geist Force game being sold on yahoo auctions.

And what will happen is that people should go over a person that is doing the same thing at the NeoGeo section here.
If you sell a product, you limit it yourself, sign it as real and verified and sell it for 15k it's a scam.
The problem in going over this person would mean bringing all the Neo-Geo forum fight here to this forum.

So or you cut the evil on the root or you keep shooting bad apples.

 

Punish the people who shit the forum up then. And don't just ban Zelkjo for advertising his crap app. Ban him because he's known for trouble wherever he goes. This isn't a Dion situation where he's disliked at one forum. He has a trail of shit following him.

Honestly there's one solution here and it certainly isn't to punish the people who aren't in the wrong.

 

It had to be done, really. Perhaps you could have one thread they're allowed to post in, in case of emergency?

Personally, I wouldn't want to see the Neo Geo forum disappear. It would be a shame to ruin it for everyone because of a few childish people. It may not have such a vast post count, but the posts can be interesting when they do turn up.

I would propose the following:

• Add "Each user may only register one account" to the rules. That way, you can report multiple logins to their ISP / VPN and it's a clear violation of our site rules (and most likely their spam policy).
• Implement a list of banned keywords in user names (those keywords we saw spammed e.g. retard, imbecile, stupid, moron, driver-man)
• Shorten the length allowed for user names (all credit to Legit for this one!)
• Allow mods the right to IP ban - we've had issues before with a spammer flooding the board when ASSEMbler wasn't around.

 

My few bits

1. This spam issue is not because of the NeoGeo section. This twat has been hitting up many sites. His twisted view has kind of morphed around his hate for the NeoGeo.com site.
2. If you really want to know what forum causes the most trouble. It's the farking 360 section. NG section doesn't hold a candle to the crap that section causes.

 

One more: selling only in the marketplace area, even comments like BTW I'm selling this must go to the marketplace.
